Sync N900 with Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1
 

I was able to sync with PC Suite before I upgraded to latest version of N900 (1.2009.42-11) and latest version of PC Suite (7.1.40.1). Now it don't work to sync any longer.

Anyone else have also problem to sync?

maybe you can try to download OVI suite ?
or upgraed the PC suite if it was now

It detect the N900 and starts to sync, but sync hangs, that's what happen.

I found that when I tried to Sync my N900 using PC Suite 7.1.40.1, it hangs when I included Notes. When I deselected Notes, sync completed without failure.

try to split the sync i mean do contacts only first , then calender , then ....
and see in which phase its hangs , at least you will know what part cuze the hangs

Yes it works if you deselected Notes, then sync completed without failure.

So we have a bug out of the box. Not a biggie, though.

Can anyone say how Calendar sync works with regard to Outlook. Categories, alarms, etc., and Outlook tasks, including alarms, etc.

Not a biggie? Lotus Notes is only the second largest corporate email platform. And probably among the Fortune 500 probably the largest. Shouldn't be that hard to fix hopefully?

Eh............

Nobody is talking about Lotus Notes, but notes as in memo´s as in the note application on the phone.

Thanks for the clarification. When Notes was mentioned along with Outlook I thought you meant Lotus Notes.

Hi everybody,
has anyone tried to sync the N900 with linux?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm using Ubuntu (linux) and most of the smartphones out there are really hard to get synced with.
I thought because Maemo is based on debian synchronisation should work much better.

I've managed to sync Outlook 2010 (the public beta version) with my N900 using Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1.

After some experimentation (see below), I established an initial sync to replace everything in the mobile device with data from Outlook.

Contacts seems to have sync-ed fine.

Calendar is OK (I have ~5000 entries dating back 10 years) - although a 100 or so entries were apparently refused by the N900. I haven't got to the bottom of this, but it seems to be entries before about the year 2000 that failed to transfer.

Notes apparently sync-ed ok, but there doesn't seem to be any application on the N900 to handle them, so I don't know where they have been sent!

Before using PC Suite to sync, I used the N900's Transfer & sync utility to pull all my contacts from my E71 (over Bt). Transfer of my large calendar failed after about 2700 entries had been received.

Categories seem to be ignored by the N900 Calendar app - but they are not lost from Outlook when I synchronize.

They seem to have been preserved ok. I have one daily repeat, with a start and end date, and some exclusions. That is displayed OK in the N900 Calendar but displays the tag:

if I go to edit it on the N900. I think it displays on the right days, 'though.

Tasks (and Notes) are sync-ed into the Calendar. Again, no obvious support for categories. (I didn't expect 'Notes' to be inside the Calendar app - it was only whilst checking for the Tasks that I 'found' them - so thank you for your question!)

Thx for the details, much appreciated. At least there is basic support for USB synk to Outlook. Another question: multiple calendars: will they sync? (One could keep a seperate calendar for Tasks, including the alarms and recurrings.)

I don't know about that, I'm afraid ... I'm rather hesitant to experiment too much with multiple N900 calendars until I have properly migrated my life from my E71. I seem to be rather on the bleeding edge here, playing with new phone and a beta version of Outlook 2010!

No, only the default calendar can be synced with Outlook via PC Suite. The reason is that only one calendar per time can be synchronized and PC Suite chapel is not editable in the device (it is hidden - "settings can be edited via computer" banner is displayed)

I have this same problem with following parameters:

N900 FW Version: 1.2009.42-11
IBM X60s Lenovo
Outlook 2007

Sync method: Bluetooth

Problem: Syncing does not work after PC-suite upgrade.

When I reboot my N900 (to make sure it is fresh for testing) and start syncing it with PC-Suite mentioned above, the first sync seems to do something. It runs the amount of objects in phone / computer databases (=does the sync). Then synchronization stops and 2 errors are shown in the PC-suite's list (warnings).

When I try to re-sync immediately after the first sync, the synchronization doesnt show anymore the amount of objects on the PC-suite screen, but just sops into an error (one warning occured). The warning tells that phone didn't answer. I need to reboot my N900 to get the first two errors to occure again.

And yes..the phone and computer are able to connect via bluetooth after this problem, as the blue bluetooth icon lights up everytime I try to do the syncing again (I quess it approves that at least in some extent).

I recall that I have been able to sync these devices and Outlook version before the upgrade of the PC-suite application. --> I strongly think that this problem is therefore related to pc-suite :-)

Additional info: Removing the notes or other content from the synced content list (in PC-suite) does not have any effect on this case.

Hello again,

I removed the PC-suite version 7.1.40.1 with Windows "add or remove programs" -feature. Then I downloaded PC-Suite version 7.1.30.9 from Nokia (Finnish version: http://www.nokia.fi/asiakastuki-ja-o...pc-suite/lataa). Foudn the version mentioned above by searching PC-Suite for E61i.

Then I installed that "older" version and synchronization works like a charm again with N900. My PC and N900 versions and configurations are the same as before. Just PC-suite was downgraded.

I did it the other way around. I am running Windows Vista and upgraded to PC-suite version 7.1.40.1 and it syncs just fine with my N900 FW Version: 1.2009.42-11. The PC-Suite version 7.1.30.9 also worked.
There are other PC Suite features that are not working, e.g. Message viewing or using the N900 as a modem (Quick Connect to Internet). Fair enough, the PC Suite indicates that it is not fully compatible with the attached phone.

I want to sync my Thunderbird/lightning email program/calender with my N900 this doesn't work via PC suite. It will only sync with Outlook or Eudora. Anyone ideas how to get a sync or do I have to start using Gmail calender?

Sadly not. 'Notes' is a front-end for various individual plain-text or html documents.

Outlook's notes are actually synced into the Calendar utility - there's a "Goto Notes" in Calendar's application menu.

Is it normal that it is NOT possible to send & receive messages (SMS) with PC Suite from the N900??:confused:
That would be a BIGGG disappointment.

I have yet another different problem, just wondering if it happens to others too.

In PC Suite I go through the "add phone" procedure : detect (using Bluetooth), pair, "add modem". The N900 appears in the phone list.

Then I have a very short window (maybe a minute) to sync my Outlook calendar to the N900, which works fine. After that the N900 closes the BT connection with the PC, disappears from the list, and never reconnects again. Trying to connect from the N900 itself (from Sync/Transfer account) also fails.

The only way I can get it back to work is to unpair the N900 and redo all the above. This gets old fast :-)

I suspect it is more a Bluetooth problem, but the same setup has been working with my E71 without any issues. Any ideas ?...

i have 7.1.30.9 on both an xp laptop and a vista laptop. both ork perfectly wityh my e71, but the vista laptop cant see the n900 in pc suite mode at all. same for my wife's n97.

does pc suite just suck on vista or is it a usb driver issue

I had the same problem, i have disabled my firewall and now Nokia PCSuite is connected to Nokia N900.

disabling firewall worked for n97 on vista, but not the n900. is there a way to wipe the drivers in vista and start from scratch? between all the different nokia phones weve had on there, im sure its a mess. would also be great to figure out exactly which exception i need in the firewall so were not without one. maybe ill just ditch it altogether for zone alarm.

i would like to get it working with the n900 tho, as we will be ditching the n97 soon. n900 works with the netbook, but its a tiny netbook and you might as well just use the n900 at that point.

Hello, i am having troubles to synchronize with my n900 using Pc-Suite. I get to connect to it, but it fails to retrieve contacts or calendar. It works fine using the device as a standard USB connection.

just got a second n900 that behaves identically (msc fine, pc suite no worky with vista.). So here's what i did:

installed 7.1.40.1 (was previously 7.1.30.9), left firewall off, pc suite now works for me on vista, and i can tether

I have been using my N900 for a few months and am totally in awe.

To the question... November last year I could only synch with PC Suite, Ovi Suite did not work, but before Christmas my Ovi Suite started to work. Everything synchronized perfectly. Today I made an update to the newest Ovi Suite, and now I get DEVICE NOT SUPPORTED..

Does anyone have a solution, or perhaps a link where I can download an older working Ovi suite?
