DrNokSnes (SNES emulator for Maemo 5)
Hi,
I've just flashed my N900 to the release firmware (also reflashed the eMMC). I then went to re-install the apps I used to have but can't for some reason find DrNokSnes. I've enabled extras-testing and even extras-devel but it's just not there. A bit confused as I don't remember having seen that it had been pulled. Can anybody please point me to what I'm missing here? Cheers |
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
It\'s still in Extras-devel, like it always has been. :) (http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...e/d/drnoksnes/)
Sure that the repositories are added correctly and that they are actually in use? (Extras-devel has a nice habit now of messing up its Packages file from time to time) |

Waiting for time to code latest stupid details like a onscreen exit button and hardware to test it myself before pushing to extras-testing.
EDIT: But yes, it should be in extras-devel. |
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Cheers all. Got it now.
Please don't laugh but here is what happened: when I added the extras-devel catalogue, I named it extras-devel but used extras-testing in the URL for some reason. I somehow failed to spot the issue even though I checked the URL several times. Must have been tired last evening. |

And the usual disclaimer:
Only use Extras-Devel or Extras-Testing repository if you know what you are doing. Applications there can eat your data and destroy your device. Never point end users to Extras-Devel or Extras-Testing without a clear warning. |

Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
It looks like it's gone again... not in extras, extras-testing, or extras-devel :(
|
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
That's because of the nintendo problem. See here
|
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Nintendo wants you to buy a real SNES. They don't sell it anymore, but that doesn't matter to the lawyers. ;)
|
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Nintendo still makes money off the SNES games on the Wii market...
still don't know why Nokia pulled the emulator though. it doesn't contain any ROMs |
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
I have a question. If I find DrNokSnes(or any game made for Maemo) somewhere in .deb form will have to install depend files also...
My N900 wont be in till later.. so this is all hypothetical. |
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Depends on how it was packaged. If it used library files present already on the n900 then the deb will automatically pull from there.
If you install it from a 3rd party repo, then it's likely someone would have also put the libraries in that repo. |
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Well I hope it'll appear on another repository one way or another...
Nokia really did a stupid mistake officially promoting emulators... |
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Yay! I found it on the Maemo.org site. So i guess it will be ok to use. Though it is in drnoksnes_1.2.2.tar.gz form. So I guess I will have to figure out how to uncompress it. Can I uncompress in in windows.... guess i will go check on that now.
|
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Try 7-zip Ghule. I use it when I'm in Windows to compress and uncompress files.
|
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Hmm... .tar.gz files are inside .deb files.
inside the .tar.gz files is .tar file inside that is directories. Would this be like a windows cab file. As in can i just extract the DrNokSnes directory and place it on my my N900 then run the app? I would try it myself.. but I am still waiting on my N900. Want to have it setup to get my apps working before i go to work Monday afternoon. |
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
When you open the .tar.gz you are given the source code files. You would need to compile these manually.
|
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Yes... but on futher looking. I believe this version is for OS 2008.
|
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Ghule, if you do a search for Nintendo.. I'm sure you can find something..
|
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Looks like it's gone again.
http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...e/d/drnoksnes/ is empty Since no one is contending that the emulator itself is illegal, Ghule, would you mind posting that to your own site or making a rapidshare or something? |
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
What can I do with the .tar.gz files ? Where I can find game for DrNokSnes?

could anyone who has the DrNokSnes for N900 upload it to rapidshare or something so we all can have a test when our N900 is here..
|
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
I think the last version of DrNokSnes is 1.2.4. The one in garage.maemo is 1.2.2. If someone have .deb version 1.2.4 pleas upload it .
|
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Yeah, the last version is 1.2.4.

Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
for now, i´ve set up a temporary repository for nintendo emulators for anyone who wants to install DrNokSnes, iNES, Vgb, and Vgba - i´d highly recommend using this instead of the mirrors as this will pull in any missing dependencies through the application manager :)
you can get the repo from here ;) |
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
Thanks for this !
You should also add DrNokSnes 1.2.4, which is the last version (you can get it in the other thread). |
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
maybe im doing something wrong but the repo just aint working on my fone

Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
do I really need teh i386.deb? its for different architecture cpu right? seem like 32bit
|
Re: Where did DrNokSnes go? (Maemo 5)
You only need the armel debs for the N900, the i386 ones are for the PC based SDK environment.
