Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
What can I say, what can I say, it's nice being one of the first in Canada to have this phone. Honestly though I didn't realize it would be this good, this phone is phenomenal, I'm actually speechless.
Big shout out to NYC Nokia fan who I met in the Flagship store lining up on Saturday morning, what a great guy. The Credit Card machines weren't working so all you saw were some hardcore Nokia N900 fans walking the streets searching for a Bank Machine. Funny thing was that when we got back to the store, the machines were working again..HAHAHA Good group of guys outside waiting in line, I kinda figured alot of people wouldn't be there lining up in the morning because everyone basicallyh pre-ordered. I can respect that but I wanted that phone. So driving 8 hours was really worth it. Just playing with just a tiny bit, I've realised enormous potential of this bad boy. Figured out how to download Bounce, but I'd like to ask someone where's the Firefox ICON on my browser? Is it already Firefox? I don't see any confirmation that it is. More posts to come. THIS PHONE IS SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! |

http://www.chilitechno.com/blog/defa...ew_part_I.aspx It's a pretty simple process, let me know your feedback on installing the app and launching it, as I noticed some lag issues, so I'd like to see if that was just isolated to me. Enjoy the N900, it's awesome! |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
the browser is based on firefox technology but is not actually the official firefox
you can get that by going here though on your n900 http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/mobile/ its still beta so might not be as fast as default browser. i'm glad you really like the n900 but can't help being jealous of you :D still waiting for mine to come. :( |

The inbuilt browser is called MicroB and based on the Mozilla engine. It is a very powerful and intuitive browser.
Firefox itself is still in beta stage on the N900, but available as a beta a download . Check this blog entry for more - or this cnet review. I'm very satisified with the default browser. |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
Hey thanks for the link, can I ask you when I install Fennec, will it update automatically when the actual one is ready?

You should call them, that's what I did before I left. Hey does anyone know how do you take video? I'm still trying to figure it out and I can't seem to find it. Can someone give me the steps please?

You need to launch the Camera app and tap 'A' to select another scene mode. At the bottom of the dialog that opens, you'll see the Video button. A really odd place to put that switch. |

It's not that odd once you see the bigger picture. |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
Thanks guys, most appreciated, I'll try to download mozilla when I get home using the wifi I got there, Edge is really really slow, hopefully mozilla will help it stream better content. Pretty happy so far, can view some good videos on Youku and MegaVideo looked alright so far. I just need a Sopcast application...ha

I was one of the guys in line with you (drove up from DC). I agree, there was a good group of guys outside. As soon as you all left to look for ATMs, their credit card systems came online. I love the device. I think it is a home run and erases my N97 experience. Although I checked it in the store, when I got back home I discovered 2 dead pixels! Did your wife do a lot of shopping while you were buying the N900? |

Hey yeah I remember you guys, cool how what the trip back to DC? Shopping...HAHA, It was first experience at the Woodbury Outlet Mail with all the Prada, Gucci, Fendi, Dolce Gabbana, whatever you wanted, let's just say she spent more on one Gucci bag than I did for the phone...When you went on Maemo Select, did you try downloading the emulators for NES and Sega? Does it work? I'm not sure on how to use these applications.
|
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
I just emailed you back, but for everyone else who may be interested:
after installing the emulators, you need to google the ROMs. I googled NES games and was given several cites. Navigate the cites, look for their download section and start downloading the games. Once you have those games then you start up the emulator and select the games you want to play. I'm trying to figure out how to customize the controls for the games because on super mario brothers all i can do is jump. |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
Thanks just got it, email me back if you have that list.
I even can play EVONY on the N900, this phone is awesome. |

Welcome to the world of Rogers/Fido 2.5 G. Nice to see some more Canadian N900 users. Now if only there was a data network that could support the phone! :( |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
I'll echo qole's welcome to the workd of 2.5G !
When will windmobile provide salvation? |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
Oh my goodness, it's so bad, I hooked up on it yesterday, and I'm freaking out with how bad it is. Wireless works beautifully, I can't wait though to try this on a 3G connection.

Hey Diavoli, I was wondering what your user-name was. I told you my username when I left, well tried to, I think I told you my n900 email instead. :) Glad you're enjoying the phone so far. I'm going to try installing some emulators over the weekend to see how the phone handles those. Hope the wife had fun shopping!:D |

Hey I was there chatting with you guys too! You guys were fun to talk to! I'm glad you two got back to DC safe and sound. You guys were gone by the time we got back from the ATM. I'm hoping your N900 experience is better than your Droid experience. No sign of warping on my N900 keyboard yet. :D |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
but i thought the 3g on n900 does not work in canada or does it?
|
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
I think it's like 1997 bad, so pretty bad I would have to say. Yo ny900 how's everything going well? I'm doing alright myself, shopping hahaha in NYC, yeah it was cool, glad your enjoying your N900, like I said before it was worth the drive.
I'd also like to say its nice being apart of a nice community like this, so far everybody has been great. Thanks guys! |

Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
Yeah well like everything that is Evony, takes up alot of memory, so after awhile find it lags, but at start-up it's working well, I think mostly it's my connectivity because of being on the Edge network. Wifi works well.
I just really want to try this phone on a high speed network. |
