Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

HI- One or 2 people said they might like a thread JUST for those of us daft enough (and unfortunate enough) to have ordered our N900s through MPD so we can keep a track on who gets what (if anything) etc- so here it is.

I, for one am not realistically expecting to hear anything until the 3rd as they have said- which I find very annoying for all the reasons we already know- but any little glimmer of light only helps keep our peckers up, doesn't it?:D

I'm sooooo pees'd off that mpd haven't received or delivered yet!:mad:
I suppose im daft as well for ordering off mpd.
But I'm sure mpd was the only place selling n900 with contract

Well at the risk of cross posting (sorry) this was the last contact I had earlier

Hmm - just had an email from MPD

I sent them the mail below in response to their infamous "delayed to Dec 3rd" email

Sent: 20 November 2009 10:54

Subject: RE: Your Nokia N900 Order

Hi there,

Thanks for the notice at last, it is good to have a date. Im a bit confused though, as I thought you ran the Nokia Retail side of things?
Im also not very happy at the further delay, is it really going to be that late, the whole point of ordering from you was your advertising, stating that you would be getting it first and also as an exclusive. This is obviously not the case, I can buy it direct from Nokia now for delivery Tuesday, (I have just phoned them.)
Is this message a precautionary message and you might be getting them in earlier, because if not, I may have to cancel my order and order directly from Nokia..

Please advise

M

No one will have the handset until the end of the month as there are no handset in the UK yet to despatch.

Do you still wish to keep your order?

Kind regards

I've sent them a mail stating that Nokia have started shipping today so can they explain why they have no stock for another 10 days?

MPD have my order from the 1st of November, I now see that Play.com has pushed their date out to 31st Dec and Expansys are delayed to 9th December.

If MPD do get them 3rd Dec then they still might be one of the first retailers to ship (other than Nokia.co.uk).

If they delay any further from this date then I will cancel and re-think the whole thing.

At least in here it has been made clear that Nokia sells it first and all other retailers will be able to start selling 4th of December. Example large retailer here called verkkokauppa.com will start sending those devices to customers in 3th already.

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

I've prepared myself to get the phone a week later than the Nokia shop route. I need a contract anyway. Ordered on the 4th Oct with the T-Mobile Combi 15 + Web'n'Walk.

I just want people to start receiving their devices via whatever routes. Gives MPD less excuses not to deliver... I doubt they have much control over this though.

As for not trusting them, meh... they're the same as any company. People are just there to earn a living... doubt they care too much. Would you in their position / not interested in this phone? Which is why it's necessary to bug them a bit! :)

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

Indeed, the problem is MPD were not honest. At no point was it pointed out that Nokia would be selling it first, as they made it sound like it would be the same time by claiming "from our Nokia stores" and "we run Nokia Retail".

They can hardly be surprised at us being confused to find that Nokia directly sell the N900 too FIRST AND run two of the Nokia stores, which probably will also get stock first (something only apparent when you look at the store list carefully).

If MPD ship the same time as as the flagship stores then perhaps we can cut them a "little" slack (as little as possible) but I fear the flagship stores in fact will get stock this week with MPD getting it next week.

I also think its really dishonest of them to still be claiming End of November BUT saying they will not be shipping until 3rd December. The date shouldn't be when they get the stock, it should be when they actually post the order. Its not like we are asking them to tell us the date it will be delivered (which lets be fair, is somewhat out of their control), we just want to know WTF is going on.

I can only guess this is Nokia at fault stringing MPD on with false dates. They should have known how long it would take from "we are shipping from the factory" to "its delivered at the warehouse in the UK", these are known shipping times. Its gone from aiming for end of Oct, Mid Nov, oh wait END Nov, oops beginning of Dec really. The only glimmer of hope is that they ship special delivery and no more Royal Mail strikes this year, so at least it might get delivered promptly.

Just for confirmation I spoke to Nokia twice today. Again at the regent street store and Nokia.co.uk both said that other retailers are allowed (by agreement) to use their brand/brand likeness

But both confirmed that if either were part of Nokia they would receive and dispatch the devices the same time as NOKIA

As they would have access to the same stock!!! And Shipping agreements!!!

BTW Carphonewarehouse &phones4U are both expecting delivery early Dec? Perhaps the 3rd?

I suspect MPD etc are getting the second batch of phones from the factory, which is why they are delayed even more.

Good idea, we need somewhere where we can wallow in our misery...it will be difficult following the UK thread as they one by one get their devices (happy for them of course, but it's tough when you don't have it yourself).

Maybe we should work out a rota for whose turn it is every day to badger MPD by a) phone b) online chat c) email :p

By the way, in case you were wondering whether MPD are always this incompetent, there are certainly signs that they are. Read this thread and note the eerie similarities to our one.

This post doesn't fill me with confidence and certainly would explain why they don't answer the phone half the time:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...5&postcount=25

On the positive side, this post would at least suggest that Robin at the Reading branch of Nokia retail might be a man worth contacting. He seems to know his stuff and may know more than those at the Head Office.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...7&postcount=45

Maybe I will phone there either tomorrow or the next day to see if anyone can give me a straight answer.

Anyhow, let's keep focussed on what we can do to keep the fire under their feet until we get our N900s. ;)

I don't disagree with you at all.

Though they didn't exactly lie, they did attempt to put a spin on things. They should of made it clear (like in their reply emails to me and others) that their 'exclusive' was mainly to do with the n900 + contract / PAYG. But like with any business their main priority was to generate sales.

Their employees paid for this stupid move by our constant chasing for correct info. Lets hope they have learned some lessons.

I've been trying to phone MPD for around 2 months now, since when i first placed my order.
I must have tried a few times a week, 3-4 times maybe.
Not once ever got a line through.
If i ever do, the MPD representative who picks up is not gonna have a good nights sleep.
Only ever contacted them through email, even their chat services are down most of the time.
Must be too scared to talk to us in person.

What if this is the sort of customer service i'll get in 18 months time, when i'm wanting to upgrade my handset, or trying for a new cheaper plan. IS THIS THE SERVICE I WANT TO RECEIVE?
Not picking up phones eh?
The only reason i havn't cancelled my order is because i need n900 on contract! and mpd are the only ones doing that

That's funny - I've got through to them very quickly by phone (4/5 rings - admittedly mid-morning) and also via webchat (which is flaky but usually has a real, helpful person on the other end). But despite decent customer service experience I've cancelled my order (2 orders in fact) & gone with nokia shop directly cos I don't trust MPD or anyone else to deliver this side of Christmas

That would be the most effective thing. I would only consider this though if they pushed the date back again - while other retailers were delivering.

Well yeah- to be honest I've been astounded each time I've been in contact with them- I haven't attempted to ring them- always used the online chat- but I've been cut off several times. I apologised once and said- Sorry- I lost ontact' and i got 'I know'.. but one word, abrupt answers and frankly they've been quite rude at points. I KNOW they've been hounded with this farce but that's what they're there for.

As for the date, well I guess, we will end up being the first after Nokia.co.uk customers to receive it- there should have been a week's exclusivity from the start- which it looks like there will be.. yada yada- but it does p1ss me off that we are the last country (barring germany I believe) to get the damned things. Aint that always the way?

The contract im getting with them is a particularley cheap one.

£25 a month combi 20+web
200 mins 200 txts + web and £58.99 for handset.
Its true that this is great value, but if i had know that their customer service is this bad i may have thought twice before ordering

Yikes, and mine is the 27th November - how freaky is THAT.

Some weird odds going on in here, three people who just happen to be on the same forum, ordered the same phone/tablet, from the same company, in the same country, born in the same month, two of which are currently located in the same CITY.

Perhaps that why we don't have our N900s yet, the odd were wasted on other freaky coincidences.

For those that have stopped watching the UK thread through jealousy at all the people getting their shipping mails, this was posted on page 51

I work at the Nokia Retail Store (Guildford), we have been informed that it will have it in our stocks on Thursday morning (means extra shift) and dispatch will start on Monday (30th November). We have been under lots of stress from the phone calls we received, but please do not hesitate to contact (01483 303071).

Steve, Guildford, Nokia Retail Store worker.

He has gone on and made several useful posts and seems to know what he is talking about - nothing that new though - its next week

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

Whilst I have no news to share, I thought I'd let people know that I just had another rather frustrating webchat with MPD.

It was frustrating for a couple of reasons, some of my messages were not being displayed, and the staff member I was talking to didn't seem to respond to (or was very slow replying) most of my messages.

It seems though that it was a technical glitch, the transcript emailled to me at the end of the chat included all messages I had sent and all message the staff had sent me (some of which I hadn't seen).

I have emailled MPD directly (about multiple things but mentioned this problem).

So be aware that they might not be being shirty/ignoring you it could be some sort of technical glitch, I feel quite bad for getting a little arsey with the person now. Hopefully, anyone else that reads this will go easier on them.

Hi to all. My first post here but i've been lurking for years and had some great fun with my n800.

I finally succumbed this morning and ordered thru MPD (voda contract).

I know many of you have ordered some time ago but do you reckon i'll be waiting much longer considering they operate on a first come first served basis.

It's my birthday on the 2nd of dec and I'd be a happy lad to have it within a week or so of that date.
Any thoughts?

Thanks, I got the n97 thru MPD earlier in the year and was fairly happy with the service.
I'm hoping for more of the same.

Well then they ought to sort the damned thing out. the problem will be with the webchat software and beyond their control but it does look awfully unprofessional for a company like them to be using something that doesn't work. Maybe find something more reliable so they don't p!ss their customers off so often??

As it happens, their unprofessionalism (lack of communication, and ignoring their enquiry form submissions, etc) is the main reason I emailled them. Be interesting to see if I get a reply.
