Sprint Service + Phone ?+ N810
I got my N810 about two weeks ago and am currently looking at a new cell phone family plan with unlimited data through Sprint. I will definitely be going through Sprint due to an employer discount plan.
I am looking for feedback from users on this forum as to the best phone to select from Sprint that will tether to my n810 and provide internet service. Any feed back will be much appreciated. I would like to get some input before tying myself to a phone I'll regret for the next 2 years. Thanks and yes I used search before posting. |

Tekplay - I did find some old posts, not that one in particular. As the information in a lot of the older posts was over a year old. I was hoping for some fresh feedback on Sprints current offerings.

I personally use a WM 6.1 device called the HTC DIamond. I use Tom Condon's wifi router. Works perfect. Turns your HTC or any other WM phone into a wifi router.

Re: Sprint Service + Phone ?+ N810
currently using a Palm Centro as tethering device. Works fine. As a matter of fact, I never use the Palm functions on the Centro anymore. Just the n810.
However, I am in the process of trying out GVM Beta 4 to see if I can get a few Palm OS things to work on the NIT. Looking at the Mogul 6800 on ebay. truckinusa: will Tom Condon's wifi router work with the 6800? I think it is WM 5. |

I couldn't find anything on youtube, but this one seems to work too? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0kPdrh8sZg I don't see why it wouldn't work though.

Re: Sprint Service + Phone ?+ N810
I used to be tethered for over a year with sprint. First day I tried I just put in sprint vision info then logged on for a couple minutes and then checked what the data charges would be. I had just a standard call plan. Data charges were high but Sprint operator suggested I add the $15 per month unlimited data plan. This worked great until about three months ago. I am no longer able to tether any more - period, so I cancelled my data plan. They said that they made some changes so that you could no longer use the "phone as modem" as they put it unless you have a plan that offers that, which are the $high dollar plans and then the phone as modem add on is $49 or $59 per month additional. Now if I try to log in the same way I always did, I get an error saying, "Registration failure, your PCS vision user name and/or password may be incorrect."

What I am talking about works perfectly to this day. I'm not sure what you are doing.

Re: Sprint Service + Phone ?+ N810
ok first and foremost welcome, i have an easy fix for you , as i too have a sprint phone and n810..
1. make sure you have unlimited data plan...... 2. make sure you have a windows mobile phone.. ( any will do) 3. goto www.wmwifirouter.com WMWifiRouter instantly turns your wifi enabled smartphone* into a wireless internet hotspot. Now you can use your laptop and any other device with wifi to get online and surf, email, instant message, and anything else you normally use the internet for! -To use WMWifiRouter you need the following on your mobile device*: Windows Mobile 5 AKU 3.3 or newer or Windows Mobile 6 Both a wifi and a cellular data connection An installed and working version of Internet Sharing** 15 MB of free device memory 4. pair the devices , ( encrypt the connection) 5. go nuts!!! and surf .. the tablet loves this application... any problems or issues reply to post and i will login your device to assist in installation. have fun..... Re: Sprint Service + Phone ?+ N810
I have the palm pre with sprint and after installing the app mythether it works great, however i would recommend going with the android hero over the palm pre, because it seems like a more evolved OS with more apps. the Web os has potential but very limited as of now.

Re: Sprint Service + Phone ?+ N810
Sprint did change this, so you will definitely need to get some 3rd party application to allow tethering, especially if PAM (phone as modem) is not available.
I was tethering my N810 to my Sprint Palm Treo 755p (PalmOS) without issue for at least 5 months, but then it stopped working. Confirmed with a Sprint rep that they had changed something. So I tried to use PDANet (which is what I used to tether my Windows notebook to my Treo), but that won't work on a Linux device. So I had to spring for USBModem by Mobile Stream. It's pricey (for a Palm app) at $25, but I'm back in business again with tethering so it's worth it. I did try to go the legit way and asked the Sprint rep if PAM was available now that they'd killed tethering and he said no. I'd asked when I got my first Nextel/Sprint phone but was told they don't offer it in my area of the country, and apparently that hasn't changed. I would advise against getting a "dumb phone" because you will probably need an app to tether, so you'll want a WM, Blackberry, or Palm phone. Good luck! -- Chris |

Re: Sprint Service + Phone ?+ N810
Well, I ended up getting a Black Berry Curve 8330 anyone have any info for tethering a BB with the n810, so far I've only be able to find a third party app called tetherberry for windows. Which won't do me any good.
