backupping sms on n900?

I'm planning to flash my n900.
How I can backup my sms/conversations? Maybe it is in some database? But where it is located on filesystem?

Or is there some non-nerd way to do it?

the Backup app should back-up and restore them (sorry I am not sure exactly which of the four options does it).
My notes are here (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=35027) if they help.

I guess you could try writing a Python script to extract them to a file (not sure how nerdy that is :)

Re: backupping sms on n900?

I realized that flashing firmware doesn't delete conversations, so it was enough for me at this point.
I hope that one day in future I can dumb all messages to one file and rcp it out.

Re: backupping sms on n900?

Just use the backup application from the N900, enter a name (for example backup 27.05.2010) and tick everything.

Then connect your phone by USB mass storage on your PC and navigate to the backup folder. You should see a folder named "backup 27.05.2010" as your backup name and there are some *.zip files into it.
The comm_and_cal.zip file contains this line /home/user/.rtcom-eventlogger/el.db quoted by ossipena

You can copy the entire folder to your pc to be safe.

Re: backupping sms on n900?

the backup-app of the n900 does everything you need.
just launch it, create a new backup and make sure the conversations-box is checked.

you can choose where to save the backup-file and after the fil ebeing created, just copy it from your n900 and it'll be safe.

The el.db file is a SQLite database file. You can open it with an SQLite database viewer or manager.

The simplest cross-platform solution I know of is the SQLite manager add-on for Firefox. It is quite comprehensive, considering that it is a browser add-on. You can download it from here if you have Firefox already installed:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5817/

If this does not suit you, just search the web for "sqlite browser OR manager" and see if you find something useful for your system.

The SMSes are stored in the table "Events". You can search for a string in the SMSes using the search button in the "Browse & Search" view in SQLite Manager. Search in the full_text field and select "contains" from the drop-down menu.

Good luck finding your SMS!

Any idea how to fix this?!?
