Can you transfer contacts from the SIM?

This will be my last OP for a while, since I appreciate I am not the only person. but I can not find a way to transfer the contacts from my SIM card. I searched but only saw something about bluetooth that I do not need.

Re: Can you transfer contacts from the SIM?

have you tried "transfer & sync" from settings? from there you can pair up with bluetooth to another phone and import contacts and calendar stuff.

Transfer them where?
Just importing them into the Maemo5 addressbook is two clicks. For exporting, see edgar2's comment. :-)

Re: Can you transfer contacts from the SIM?

I want to transfer them from my SIM card directly to the N900. This is first device I have not been able to do this. Even my trusty N-Gage did this.

Re: Can you transfer contacts from the SIM?

  1. open address book
  2. from menu, choose "get contacts"
  3. "copy from SIM card"

One issue per thread please. Open a new one. Always? Wifi only?
"Offline Mode" from the Power button menu? :-/

I did what edgar2 said to do but nothing is happening. Clicking on the button 'copy from sim card' just brings me back to my empty contacts list.

i have also try to send all my links to my n900 from my SE but when i try and save the whole contacts to my documents on the n900 is says there is insufficient space even though i have 27g

Exactly how are you trying to sync? Bluetooth? We need more details to be able to help.

Re: Can you transfer contacts from the SIM?

I was using a Nokia N80 before I got my N900 yesterday. I copied my N80 contacts to the SIM card and then moved the SIM card to the N900 and copied them into my contacts. Unfortunately, every phone number transferred as a separate contact, with no labels, so N900 thinks they are all cell numbers. None of the email addresses or physical addresses copied to the N900. The first and last names copied over backwards (last became first and vice versa) and the company names didn't copy at all. Also, I noticed the N900 doesn't have a detail label for fax numbers. I just deleted them since I never fax anyone anymore. But it would have been nice to have the info in my phone just in case I got in a jam and needed a fax number for something.

I'm sure there is probably a better way to transfer contacts without losing so much, but I've fixed all of mine manually now anyway. Not sure if this problem was due to limitations of the N80 or the SIM card. My T-Mobile SIM card is pretty old (about 5 years). Hopefully others will have better luck.

That's due to SIM card limitations, only one number per contact. Transferring over Bluetooth might work better.

Re: Can you transfer contacts from the SIM?
