N900 shoots for the Moon !
2 Attachment(s)
I was taking a few quick looks through my telescope but the air was slightly foggy and the only thing clearly visible was the Moon. The Moon, a telescope and a bored N900 in the inner pocket, you say ? I though I might take a few snaps of with the N900. I was quite pleasantly surprised by the results (yes, the internal postprocessing/jpeg artifacting is visible, but hey !).
The N900 was set to ISO 100 and -2 exposure compensation The photographs were made handheld, with me holding the N900 and pressing the shutter, no timer or fixture were used. The only postprocessing was the 1:1 crop and altered levels, NO denoising, NO rescaling, NO per pixel manipulation, NO color correction, etc. As said, the atmospheric conditions were terrible (2-3/10), slightly foggy, strong moonshine. With image stacking, a proper fixture and hopefully a slightly improved/more permissive camera firmware this thing could do wonders. |

Oh WOW! You should take some of those and create wallpapers. Please!!
Amazing. (Mind that's some telescope) |

Re: N900 shoots for the Moon !
Amazing (and I know it isn't N900 that did the "big job" in this case). Thanks for sharing!

Re: N900 shoots for the Moon !
Thanks for all the thanks, folks ! As for the wallpaper idea, considering the results I'm keen on making a proper photo-setup for this telescope+N900 combo, so I could use stacking and timed exposures... That would produce images of sufficient resolution to use them as wallpapers.
PS. Hey, who voted this thread with one-star ? I know the title is a bit misleading but the contents can't be THAT bad, right ? :D |

Re: N900 shoots for the Moon !
Attila,
Nice stuff! May I ask what telescope was used? details details! |
Re: N900 shoots for the Moon !
Great pics! Now you got me wanting for an ED-80 telescope. Never seen the moon this close except for those original NASA images.

Re: N900 shoots for the Moon !
Skywatcher ED80 (also known as Skywatcher Pro Series 80/600), it's a small telescope, but gives a very good image for a price less than the N900's :)
I used the afocal technique (=just holding the device against an eyepiece). The first image is shot with a TAL plossl 25mm eyepiece, the second with a TAL plossl 10mm + 2x (crappy) barlow. N900 settings, as mentioned, were, ISO 100, exposure -2, no flash, macro mode (the shutter speed was 1/150 and 1/200, but those were set automatically, I looked them up from the exif tag). |
Re: N900 shoots for the Moon !
Nice. Don’t forget to make the wallpapers.
