HSDPA (3.5G) issue
I've been using my N97 for the past serveral months.
Got an iPhone 3GS 2 weeks ago, been using that while I wait for my N900 Got my N900 today Anyone that's the background, straight to the point. It seems to me the N97 is the only device that gets 3.5G signal. I have never seen an '3.5G' icon on the iPhone 3GS for the past 2 weeks, even walking about in the city centre where I know it's coveraged by 3.5G, it's still only showing 3G. Does the iPhone 3GS show '3.5G' instead if you're in HSDPA area? Anyway, my N900 is still charging at the moment. I have been checking it up from time to time but noticed the same issue as the iPhone 3GS, no 3.5G signal.
Only N97 has managed to pick up 3.5G so far. |
Re: HSDPA (3.5G) issue
iPhone 3gs never shows 3.5g
I can't pass comment on n900 yet, but would have thought it would be in the manual? |

Then again, S60 (in my experience, not N97) does the same so I'm guessing you're already familiar with that. |

Re: HSDPA (3.5G) issue
No, it shows when you have 3.5 signal.

Re: HSDPA (3.5G) issue
From those preview videos. The N900 should be showing 3.5G
I'm gonna put another O2 sim into the N97 now. |

Nonetheless, that's interesting what you're seeing there. Did you try putting different network's SIM card into N900? |
Re: HSDPA (3.5G) issue
working fine on my virgin sim

Re: HSDPA (3.5G) issue
All I can do to add to this topic is to tell you that my N900 picks of 3.5G just fine.
I live in the Netherlands and use t-mobile. In my perception the reception is very good compared to other mobiles. |

Still charging at the moment. I'll check it out once charging is done. |
Re: HSDPA (3.5G) issue
I'm using my N900 with T-Mobile USA, only get 3.5G when I'm using data. When it's voice only, I get 3g.
I'm actually experiencing a weird issue with my N900. If I don't set my phone to 3G only, when I hit 2.5G or 2G, while I'm using data, the phone won't reconnect on edge. Basically data doesn't work what so ever when voice is on 2G or 2.5G. I know for sure it's not the sim or network's issue because I'm using the same card on my old phone and I don't have any issue with edge. |

Have you try Dual mode? Nevermind, found it. I'll give that a go now. |
Re: HSDPA (3.5G) issue
The phone use dual mode. I set it to 3G only seeing how my phone can't connect to edge. As for your question, yes. If you set it to GSM only, you'll get 2G and 2.5G depending on your area.

Re: HSDPA (3.5G) issue
Yay!
Showing 3.5G now :) Had it on 3G only mode. Only show 3.5G when I started web browsing. http://www.speedtest.net/result/634785557.png That's pretty cr@p to be honest on 3.5G But probably because O2-UK 3G network sucks |

On my N95 it showns 3G. But when I am actively connected and browsing over the connection, the phone shows 3.5G during the active connection. Once disconnected it goes back to idle showing just 3G again. |

Browse the net, it's working fine for me, connected to 2.5G http://www.speedtest.net/result/634789107.png I think it's network settings related. T-Mobile might have different username for EDGE compare to their 3G network. Here, O2-UK uses the same settings on both EDGE & 3G, before EDGE uses username wap and 3G uses internet I think, now both uses mobile so you get 2.5 or 3G no matter what. |
Re: HSDPA (3.5G) issue
What I meant was if I were to use dual mode. This doesn't happen if I were to limit myself to only one of the options. Basically if I were in a 3G coverage area and was using 3G data, once I go to an area with 2G only, the data won't reconnect onto edge.

0.55Mb/s is just the same as 3g. Sure that O2 offers HDSPA 3.5G in your location?

Re: HSDPA (3.5G) issue
yeah i hope get 3.5g sometimes, i really hope t-mobile improve the 3g service more in chicago but overall it's still pretty good
