Yahoo.com email set up problem on N900

Guys, need help on setting up Yahoo.com web mail on N900

Have tried and tried but going through automated set up, as soon as you hit save, it has a three second think about the settings, then yellow bar shows saying username or password is incorrect

having tried all variations of what username could be, and making sure password was in right case etc etc still nothing

Anyone managed to succesfully do this as yet? i searched forum and no one else lists a similar issue

Thanks

Re: Yahoo.com email set up problem on N900

if you log in to the e-mail page of yahoo with your pc, you should find a manual somewhere where it is explained step by step how to set up mail clients for usage with yahoo mail, which provides also smtp(outgoing) and imap/pop(ingoing) server addresses that are important.

Re: Yahoo.com email set up problem on N900

The easiest option (which I'm using atm) is to sign up for Nokia Messaging - http://email.nokia.com
Then add Yahoo email.

On N900, add Nokia Messaging.
Nokia Messaging will do all the settings stuff. Apparently there's a unique IMAP server address for Nokia that Yahoo provided.
All you have to do is type in your Yahoo email + password like I did.

Didn't know about that one, thank you.
Is that working for other mail services aswell and will your emails be merged in one nokia messaging account, or do you have to create a seperate for every e-mail service?

You can add up to 10 e-mail accounts to your Nokia Messaging account. I haven't tried how this works in practice. At least on S60 you can have them pushed to your handset right away, you don't have to keep checking the mail manually.

Just beware, it may be free at the moment but Nokia makes deals with operators for them to offer the service. I had a Nokia Messaging account and used it without a fee until my operator made a deal with Nokia and now I would have to pay the operator ~5 euros a month for the service.

Nokia Messaging has similar behaviour to the popular Blackberry email push system.
It'll 'sniff' for new emails on all of your accounts, then push them to the N900

Re: Yahoo.com email set up problem on N900

i was having that same problem. I added the Nokia Messaging first, waited until it updates, THEN add the Yahoo! Mail and any other service you want.

Thanks! :D

Well when you sign up, Nokia ask for a phone number but i don't have the phone number for the new device yet. Why can't you set up so it can check mail with wi-fi.

Re: Yahoo.com email set up problem on N900

as far as I know you can't access your Yahoo email account with a client application if it's not Yahoo Plus. Nokia Messaging is really good but I don't know how much it will be after the trial.

Re: Yahoo.com email set up problem on N900

to set up yahoo mail I had to use the "other" option instead of automatic "yahoo" (in my case yahoo-bellsouth) settings. Just fill in pop and smtp and you're good to go...

Re: Yahoo.com email set up problem on N900

I got the text message from Nokia but when I clicked the link it tells me that it did not automatically detect my operating system and offered for me to manually choose my OS but the choices are all Symbian. Is this correct? If it is, which one should I choose?

here's the easiest way to setup your nokia messaging email

go to email, then new account, then next
choose your region
on the service provider you should have an option for nokia messaging.
then enter the email and pw.

that should work now.

Re: Yahoo.com email set up problem on N900

I was having this problem, there is a setting on the Yahoo! WebMail page for allowing pop3 access, you don't need Yahoo Plus to do this.

Goto Options -> Mail Options -> POP & Forwarding (which will take you to Yahoo Mail Classic) -> Click on the Web & POP Access Radio button -> then click save.

Thanks, DaveR53 and NOKIAFAN. Your combined suggestions worked wonders and I can now access my Yahoo! emails from my N900.

Re: Yahoo.com email set up problem on N900

yahoo mail is not accessible only yahoo mail plus is. so if you setup yahoo mail, settings used are for pop3 and wont work for yahoo mail users.

setup nokia messaging at email.nokia.com, login and add emails accounts you want access e.g gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc. once you have added accounts on nokia messaging website. Setup nokia messaging account on n900. n900 will automatically setup all the accounts you setup earlier on email.nokia.com

done!

Nope, doesn´t work for me. It doesn´t offer that option. Just the option to upgrade to plus.

Hi

Here is how you set up your yahoo acount on your N900 without have to use the Nokia Messaging.

Steps:

1) Used "Others" as service provider when setup the account

2) on the incoming server used "imap.mail.yahoo.com"

3) outgoing is smtp.mail.yahoo.com

user_name < --- without the @yahoo.com
your_passwd

The rest u can uncheck.

work great for me!!!

It works for me too but I observe the unstable behavior over WiFi. Via 3G I have a stable connection and mail retrieval but via WiFi sometime it works but most of cases it rejects with invalid login. I researched it a little and I think it is some race condition and invalid setup in Yahoo.

And I noted that PR1.1 update removed IMAP access to Yahoo! Mail but leaved Y!+
I filled a bug and got response - "won't fix because Y! has unstable results".

You have 2 options - use Nokia messaging as described here or just use 3G for e-mails via suggested IMAP configuration. For now I stopped on 3G because I found very inconvenient the e-mail polling each 4hours - phone sounds at night at least twice and wakes me up.

You need to setup correctly an output SMTP server addresses. Unfortunately, it depends from your provider - some of them blocks output to TCP port 25 and some of them requires a usage of SMTP gateway. It is difficult to give you here a generic advice because of that. The best way - follow the Nokia N900 advice then you setup an account.

O-oh, one another thing - you may try a different setup in SSL, user identification etc.

Well, I guess it is just the yahoo thing :> It happened to me too even if I am on my HTC TP2 (WinMo device) :D.

For me I just don't like the Nokia Messaging hosting my email. Just not cool :D

Just like I don't like google hosting my apps or storing my files or sync my contact :P

I tired all the things mentioned here but I still cant setup my yahoo account on my n900. When I tired the Nokia messaging it tells me ( Your mobile phone already has the latest Nokia Messaging software installed. To setup Nokia Messaging directly from your phone, go to Menu > Email > New > Follow on screen instructions.

Don't forget to Accept the Service Terms
.)

Please help coz my yahoo account is my main account i need it.

Re: Yahoo.com email set up problem on N900

The infallible way to do it is to use the browser, not Nokia Messaging.

It can be done with Nokia Messaging -- it's tough to do with a free account. Even that can be done, but it can be tricky.
