Can N900 Support HID usb mouse and Keyboard?
Hey guys I just want to know if Nokia N900 Support HID usb keyboard and mouse device?
Would be a very handy thing if it does. :D |
Re: Can N900 Support HID usb mouse and Keyboard?
The n900 does not support usb host mode, see: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=31921. There are people who try to get it working but it is unlikely as a nokia employee said it is impossible hardware-wise. Perhaps it will work with a bt mouse and a bt keyboard.

ohh ,man isnt there hack somewhere to make it host Mouse and keyboard? We should complain to NOKIA and let them add that functionality into the device.

I think bluetooth mouse and keyboard is better solution than playing with cables. Tried to pair my old Kensigton bluetooth mouse, pairing is ok but nothing useful can be done with mouse

Re: Can N900 Support HID usb mouse and Keyboard?
how about a compatibility list of BT periphery? (Keyboards, mouse, etc.)

Re: Can N900 Support HID usb mouse and Keyboard?
I have tried pairing my BT mouse with the N900. Pairing is easy, but nothing useful can be done. Connect fails :(

The only reasonable method to do so would be to include another USB port, so that you would have one for charging, and one for USB use (keyboard, plugging in USB devices, etc..) but that would be confusing to people and increase manufacturing costs which would be passed onto you, the consumer. Another method would be to simply not use the USB for charging, but that's not likely as Europe is pushing manufacturers toward this standard (most companies have agreed to it already anyway to reduce e-waste from incompatible chargers). And some governments are talking about putting a "e-waste" tax on companies that don't do something about the problem of electronics (basically it's either you recycle the old electronics or we'll tax you for the cash to pay others to do it). Lastly, the 3rd method would be to ignore the USB standards consortium and implement USB host mode on a USB port capable of charging. But then you can't call or advertise that as USB or you get sued. I believe HID bluetooth keyboards work partially, but some key functions are impossible. No idea about bluetooth mouse, I would like to see it though. TV + Bluetooth keyboard + Bluetooth Mouse = temporary replacement desktop :D |

Since the two ports (USB female and micro usb) are too different, there wont be much confusion. users won't be able to plug the host USB port into a host USB in any computer... Would that regular USB footprint be too much? |
Re: Can N900 Support HID usb mouse and Keyboard?
Doesn't Bluetooth HID keyboard and mouse work then?
I have both, but I haven't yet tested or googled about instructions yet how to do it. On the other thread they are working on getting USB OTG host mode to work. Maybe if it is succesfull, there could even be small USB hubs which can be connected as long there is external 5V (500 mA - 3A) PSU. |
Re: Can N900 Support HID usb mouse and Keyboard?
I think a full size usb port would be to space consuming and wouldn't look quite right in my opinion not to mention the need for two separate controllers.
I'd rather the one size fits all approach. |
Re: Can N900 Support HID usb mouse and Keyboard?
General "hardware" problem with usb on n900 is lack of power.
It can be easy solved by adding external-powered usb-hub. Flash drives works nice: http://maemos.ru/2010/06/07/usb-host-usb-otg/ I see no more hw problems |
