Re: IRC on the n900

I use pidgin for my N8x0 to get on IRC, it may not be the best IRC client, but it is also an IM client, and works alright.

I remember someone else asking about a CLI standalone IRC client in a screenshot, but I believe that was discovered to be running through an SSH session to a desktop, and the standalone IRC is not yet available for Fremantle, someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Re: IRC on the n900

looking for a standalone... something like xchat perhaps? also AIM and yahoo integration. ill be taking a look into those protocols myself. think its something the community should jump on just to bring this device up to speed....

Pidgin works well but not very easy to work with. I think its available in Extras.

Seeing that picture, pidgin clearly is not the client to go with on that device :)

Hmm, I guess I'll try irssi first, that is always running in a screen on my server anyway. With the keyboard that should be workable.

frankly i was looking for something besides the obvious.... which is a term app, or an ssh expedition heh. trying to find a good guimclient for the masses.. im an old *****x veteran, i can use irssi if i need to, but would rather find something a lil more subtle if you get my drift

Re: IRC on the n900

Fairly sure you'd have to build it from scratch for maemo, but weechat may be worth a look. A very tidy IRC client.

im positive that we can make a port. just checking the community to see if there is anything else.

I have it on good authority that Lcuk is looking at putting IRC onto a liqbase app. So I suspect it's just a matter of time. :)

Re: IRC on the n900

isn't IRC integrated with the unified messaging application the way it was in maemo 4??? i have IRC via telepathy(-idle?) on the N810 and it's the best solution in terms of usability, using the screen estate etc.etc.

could one of the N900 comment on this please? is it really gone?

I may have already spoken out of turn saying that much. You could PM Lcuk and ask. ;)

You might need manually ALT to the "quick bar" and getting numbers can be fustratino since there is no "long press > secondary character"

i wasn't aware of this bug. why did they ruin so many things that worked perfectly well on M4? it's almost like it's version 1 instead of version 5 :(

Kathy!!! I'm shocked - do i detect a hint of techy'ness in your post there? :) :) :)

Back on topic - pidgeon looks good to me :) - but the Lcuk idea sounds good! :)

Techyness? No, just a little dirty rumour-mongering. But it is good authority.

It's only techyness when i start thinking of a python as something other than a dance partner. :p

Haha, anyway, wouldn't a python eat the pidgeons? ... sounds like maemo zoo!

xchat is in extras devel (standard dont add stuff from extras devel unless you are aware of the risks disclaimer) works pretty well.

Options for IRC are:
- Pidgin (Extras)
- irssi (Extras-Testing)
- web sites like http://webchat.freenode.net

Re: IRC on the n900

X-chat is steady enough that even I have it on My Mo, though it's a bit ugly and clunky, it does work.

Re: IRC on the n900

i have installed the irc plugin for conversation. Connect with the irc server is ok but how i join a channel? when i try to /join #room the server says unknown command, use /msg NickServ help. But when i use this command then comes the same message. What is to do?
