How to turn off "WLAN"...

Is there a way to turn off WLAN, just like you'd turn off bluetooth?

Yes, offline mode... or you can disconnect from WLAN and tell the phone not to reconnect without asking.

You can access the WLAN options from the status bar:

That's what I told you. Disconnecting WLAN and setting the options up so that it doesn't reconnect when it finds WLAN will keep it offline and keep BT and phone working.

does not connect is not the same as "off". The radio is still on but just not using the connection. it's still listening (sucking power).

It's not listening if you don't have it set to automatically search for available Access Points.

WLAN is still on and available WLAN networks are displayed when Always ask is selected in Internet Connections -> Connect automatically

of course you can but it most probably leads to the situation where watchdog reboots your phone. I'm not sure so lets wait for some expert to answer this.

I was unable to remove wlan module with rmmod, so it isn't a solution.

what to do if someone really wants the wlan to be turned totally off?

yes, it's not good to let wifi online , because it can use more power

wifi isn't online unless you use wifi connection or keep connection selection screen open 24/7...

Wrong... the AP here at work sucks at implementing powersave mode, so it drains my battery in half a day. So I want to disable WIFI while I'm at my desk.

When I disconnect it reconnects again automatically. I want it to reconnect on other WLAN, not the one at work.

I think the request to be able to disable WIFI is a valid one. The Cellular modem button controls could maybe be extended to include pure phone mode...

Works for me. Better Battery life and it wont search for wifi until you deactivate it.
