US Tmobile APN
out box, N900 was using internet2.voicestream.com for its APN. It worked fine but i've changed my APN setting to epc.tmobile.com.
Do you guys know which one would be appropriate one (faster?) to use on N900 with 3G connection? |
Re: US Tmobile APN
What differences do you notice? Maybe try a speed test and compare the two APNs..

Re: US Tmobile APN
I can't give you speed comparisons, but I can say that all the 3g devices shipped by tmobile generally use the epc APN. That seems to be what they prefer these days.

Re: US Tmobile APN
So you can get 3g from a 9.99 plan?

Re: US Tmobile APN
Ok, well I want to add data for just myself on a family plan, and Im thinking the only way to bypass getting the 24.99 plan is just changing my phone on the tmobile website to the shadow or something and asking them to add me to the web2go plan which is just 9.99...But it would be pointless if there was a limit like 5GB or something, even though it says unlimited. And I couldnt get 3g. Some have said you will only get EDGE, so slightly confused.
|
Re: US Tmobile APN
i dont think there is a limit to 5gb and yes you can get 3g on 9.99 plan and someone said on tzone also, if there is 3g in your area like above post stated,
i currently have 9.99 unlimited web for dumbphones, running on internet2.voicesteam.com. i am in ct my 3g speeds are between 700 and 800 |
Re: US Tmobile APN
I have the grandfather data plan, $5.99 and still access the net fine. There is no 3G in my area so I dont get it here but when I went for the Thanksgiving holiday to pittsburgh, I was able to shuff the net on the Tmobile 3G net with no limit whatsoever.

Re: US Tmobile APN
Just making sure, dont want to charged for overages or anything siilly
|
Re: US Tmobile APN
I just signed up for the 9.99 plan using internet2.voicestream.com, speedtest.net reports about 1Mb down/300Kb up. It doesn't work with epc.tmobile.com so I can't test the speed with it (I get their web2go website)
As X61 stated 3G depends on the availability in your area, I had 3G for calls without the data plan. |
Re: US Tmobile APN
I have a very old t-mobile total internet VPN plan (for 19.99 and includes 100 MMS, yes, MMS, SMS I get charged for). The only APNs I can use are the epc one and internet3. If I set it to internet2 it won't connect.
Bizarre, huh? Sometimes I don't need a public IP and would be happy with private behind NAT so I would use internet2 and save an IP -- but I guess that's not allowed. |
Re: US Tmobile APN
Thanks alot guys! I just added the 9.99 plan to my account. The phone should be arriving tmw, so I should be able to test it out : )
So excited, I might have to sleep the day away, til it comes!!! |

Re: US Tmobile APN
how long did it take you guys to get the internet to work? i get 3g in my area since im in chicago.. i added the smartphone plan 25$ on monday and its been almost 48 hours since it was added.. but i haven't been able to connect to epc.tmobile.com, internet2.voicestream.com, or even wap.voicestream.com
should i go and call 611 and find out whats up? |
Re: US Tmobile APN
They told me it'd take 2-48 hours after I had my plan switched from my G1 to something that would work on other phones. I had a working data connection in about 10 minutes. So might wanna call or chat online with T-Mobile.

Re: US Tmobile APN
yeah i went ahead and called them.. guess what the idiot from before added the internet plan to my moms phone instead of mine.. which i don't get when he asked for my phone number to add it and plus my number is way different from my moms lol.
so then he switched it and i was able to connect 5mins right after.. so for 2 days i was waiting to see if i could connect.. :face palm:. |

td;dr They probably need your N900 IMEI number to associated it with your account. Should be able to fixed it while you are on the phone. With then. Best to call them on an another line. |

Re: US Tmobile APN
I have $20 Unlimited TXT and Unlimited Shadow Web (this does not have any cap) working with no problems using internet2.voicestream.com
|
Re: US Tmobile APN
So can the $10 unlimited plan be added to the N900 easily, settings-wise? If I call them and need to give them my IMEI, won't they force me to get on their smartphone plan?

Re: US Tmobile APN
The results should be the same. Although for safety's sake, I called T-Mobile and had them send me the internet settings config file to my phone. This setup uses epc.tmobile.com and thats what i have been using. the 3G areas work well with a solid connection and high transfer rate.

Re: US Tmobile APN
See its this kind of support from Tmobile that makes me stick with them. They ALWAYS try to help - sometimes they cant but they ALWAYS try. No just trying to get you off the phone and onto the next call.

Carriers have always been able to find out the IMEI, and some will make service changes if, for example, they see the encoded model number matches one of their offered smart phones. I've changed phones numerous times and have never been asked to provide this before. |
Re: US Tmobile APN
So is this something a new subscriber can get/do? I plan on getting the n900 but dont have it yet, so how could I go about getting this? If I understand correctly this is just a 9.99 plan and nothing else? No voice? (Wouldnt need that due to skype)

Re: US Tmobile APN - AGPS not working
Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem with T-mobile. I bought my n900 a couple of weeks ago and initially used it on AT&T. Everything worked fine (including A-GPS), but of course I was limited to EDGE speeds. So I switched to Tmobile and I'm on a voice plan with the $10 unlimited web. I'm using the internet2.voicestream.com APN and web surfing etc works fine. However, I cannot get network positioning to work. I still have the standard supl.nokia.com location server. So ever since the switch to Tmobile, it has not worked. Is it possible they have some port blocking access to network positioning? Does anyone else have this problem? I have tried all the other APN's but I cannot get any network connectivity with them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

If I put a call into tmobile support are they gonna question whether I should be on the $25 vs the $10 plan? Is it possible to have a 'dumbphone' with gps? Interesting that it's not working for people on either plan. Anyone actually have it working? |
Re: US Tmobile APN
i do have it working but i never used att sim i can have maps running just with network position and it get a fix with few seconds i have unlimited web for dumbphones for 9.99 internet2.voicestream.com
if you go settings, under internet connections, you will get a pop up window, on the right side you have connections, highlight tmobile internet or whatever your connection is named for tmobile, click edit what i have is connection name and type gprs, then when i go next i got access point name internet2.voicestream.com and everything else is blank then you go next, and you have advanced click on it, proxy should not be check and ip should have auto retrieve check, and auto dns check i hope this helps . |
Re: US Tmobile APN

|
Re: US Tmobile APN
Thanks amorek, I have the same settings as you have described. Could you please check your location server? I'm assuming it's supl.nokia.com.
