Re: Linux synchronisation

At the moment, there is nothing. The N900 was made to appease both Linux users and windows users. Windows user at the moment have no problems sync with the N900 but if you are a linux user, good luck trying to sync with the N900.

Don't worry, you're not alone. I can't sync my Mac either. Or in fact, as you say, any of my Linux boxes. Or, indeed, my existing phone.

I hope one using SyncML will be made soon (either from Nokia or by a developer here). I don't have that many contacts I actually call and I was planning on using Google Voice most of the time so it doesn't effect me as much but it would be nice to have a Linux and OSX method instead of a Windows only method.

It doesn't make sense that you can't sync a linux smartphone with a linux box!

Surely there must be some way.

second link is for tablet suit. backup being done first

if you are using evolution then syncML is also possible to Google then to N900.

Re: Linux synchronisation

I am trying to compile sync-evolution ( http://syncevolution.org/documentation/installation ) for maemo 5 but don't finish yet. I will continue tonight....

I am using this program on my ubuntu (Karmic) notebook together with Genesis-Sync (https://launchpad.net/genesis-sync). I am sync Evolution (Contacts, Calendar, ToDo, Notes) by sync-evolution/Genesis-Sync with my home Funambol server (http://funambol.com/).

Re: Linux synchronisation

it's complicated.. do you know the bueZync project , i think it can be more easily ?
it provide synchronisation between syncml phones and thunderbird mozilla on desktop

Re: Linux synchronisation

Please keep working on syncevolution, it's the best sync solution I found for my Karmic box! (syncevolution, genesis-sync, scheduleworld)

I'd love to see syncevolution for the n900, not being able to sync is the only show-stopper so far. I can't write code, but maybe I can help testing?

Cheers!

Re: Linux synchronisation

Hmmm can syncevolution work with other syncml providers as well? Can it define what to sync to what service. I.e. calendar to WebCalendar contacts to something else. etc...

Re: Linux synchronisation

With my N810 I run the GPE PIM series and Notecase on tablet as well as my Ubuntu desktop and laptop. These are DB file compatible and I can use the USB cable or Bluetooth to transfer files. I'm a Gmail user so I set it for IMAP and use the N810's modest mail package. I use erminig on the tablet to sync my calendar with Google. I don't know if these aps are also available on the N900 but they work well for me. With the N810, file sharing with Ubuntu is recognized by the tablet but it dosen't show any files in the File Manager. If the N900 has NFS then you could mount the tablet on Ubuntu and have access over a WiFi net with your PC.
