Live near D.C?

I was thinking of holding a maemo meet and greet for anyone that lives in or near Washington D.C. IT would likely be located at a bar but we could hold it elsewhere for those under 21.

How about next Saturday? The 19th? Anyone got an idea for location? I was thinking Fado's in Chinatown since it's Metro accessible.

You don't have to own the N900 to come.

Re: Live near D.C?

Wish I was living in DC still. I moved to Korea about 6 months ago. I was living in Courthouse. Good times. Let me know how it goes. I got mobilecityonline.com to ship me an N900 though!

Re: Live near D.C?

Dude! Of all the days to do that, the 19th is the one weekend this month where I can't make that drive. Dang office Christmas party with bonuses and other annual awards XD

Would love to be there though.

Re: Live near D.C?

Well the date is up in the air and not many people have responded. I'm fine with any weekend since that's the only time I am free. But Charlotte, NC to D.C. is a long drive..

I know cause my family does the opposite at least once a year.

ARJWright 2009-12-11 20:36

Re: Live near D.C?

No, not a long drive at all. I go back and forth to fam in Philly (driving) a few times a quarter (life determining availability of course). And just last weekend drove to and from Ohio (thru the snow storm at that). So no, DC isn't a prob.

Re: Live near D.C?

I live in NOVA but I still haven't received my N900 that I ordered from Dell back in 11/5. Coming and seeing other people's phones would just piss me off.

Re: Live near D.C?

I agree with the guy above... I'd feel kinda foolish going to a meetup, without actually owning the reason for the meetup (thanks Dell). And I'd probably just get frustrated all over again. Great idea though!

Interesting. I used to work next door to Fado, and the food and atmosphere is great.

I would recommend waiting until after the holidays to plan something like that...My other thought is to take a straw poll of folks wanting to come and possibly hold the meeting in VA or MD.

Thoughts?

Re: Live near D.C?

I'd be interested in a meet up. I'm new to maemo, but loving my N900.

Laughing Man 2009-12-17 02:01

Re: Live near D.C?

Yeah the date isn't locked in place so anytime on a weekend is fine with me. I'm also fine with holding the meeting in VA or MD though I'd prefer it to be Metro accessible. =P

I vote for after the holidays too .....
and just a suggestion - isnt Friday eve after work feasable ?

I drive back to my family in NJ every weekend hence the suggestion ...

I guess so. I just get off work at 5:30 so it'd be around 6-6:30 by the time I get to Fados if we go there.

Small world...same here. Are you on T-Mobile with your 900? If so, were you able to get on the 7Mb/21Mb network in Philly? Again if so, whereabouts in Philly?

I was gonna go last weekend but had to RMA mine after 2 days of playing...I mean owning.

Haha, well I didn't know it was going snow. =P

But it was fun last night, a bunch of my fellow graduate classmates went to Fado's to celebrate the end of our first semester of graduate school. Then my best friend in the program and I went to the nearby Hooters to eat and we had fun driving home in the snow.

Rule #1: Stay home. There isn't much you need out there.

Rule #2: Unless you are a snowplow driver, emergency services person, ain't no job worth dying for.

Re: Live near D.C?

Bump

It's after the holidays and I'm sure things are returning back to normal. I think this would be a cool idea because alot of us are in close proximity, and have had our devices for a little. Maybe in two or three weekends out, late sat afternoon/early evening?

Possibly at Camelot, I'm dying to try out macro mode on my camera in a dynamic situation :-)

Laughing Man 2010-01-07 16:00

Re: Live near D.C?

Yeah, how did everyone deal with that big snow? Sadly my dad's snow blower quit working on us halfway through shoveling the driveway so we had to do the rest manually (ugh arms were sore for the next two days).

Where's Camelot? Anyway I would still be up for this. I am free three Saturdays from now.

Laughing Man 2010-01-07 16:32

Re: Live near D.C?

Oh wait I think I have heard of Camelot.. it's a "gentlemen's" club isn't it? CHP issues Dak?

Just found this thread and I live in Annapolis so I'm totally down for a local DC area get together.

Someone just say where and when! :D

ZackMorris 2010-01-07 16:44

Re: Live near D.C?

Haha yeah camelot is a gentlemans club on M st near 18th, I was being a lil sarcastic. If people are more inclined to Northern Va I would say the Clarendon area is great. Enough parking, plenty of bars, metro access. There is always Crystal City Restaurant though... :-p

Just remember to bring a lot of small bills.

:p

Anyone on T-Mobile getting the 7Mb speeds? I'm up in Columbia but still only getting 900Kb.

You can test the N900 when it rains.

No thanks...got dragged to that place by a co-worked for "lunch". Not my cup of tea. Jalepeno poppers were kinda good though.

Re: Live near D.C?

Actually the burger and steak there isn't too bad, but to keep this more on topic, what about the 23rd later afternoon early evening around 5ish, suggestion for venues, there is RiRa's & Four Courts on Wilson...thoughts?

I'm up for the 23rd. Any other takers?

Sure! How about Whitlow's instead? It's big and open. I remember Four Courts as crowded and dark.

---- Edit 1/19/2010 -----
I won't be able to attend on 1/23 after all. Everyone please have a good time! Please post a group picture and a summary of the meet up.

Re: Live near D.C?

I should be free on the 23rd (I'll have to check if I have any family obligations).

Hi all in the DC area! Just saw this and would love to participate if I can!

I realize I am late, but if it still matters, I would prefer a weekday or even Sunday meetup, and given that I am in DC itself, somewhere in the District or close to it would be ideal. The weekday is the more important thing though.

A weekday would be a hard thing to pull off for those of us who do not work in DC. Even if we could get off work early enough, it's almost impossible to navigate the beltway or metro stations when you're going against the commute crowd.

Laughing Man 2010-01-09 18:39

Re: Live near D.C?

That's what I was thinking.

DC during a weekday would be fine for me but that's because I go to graduate school and work in the area. But it wouldn't work for anyone else.

I could do a Sunday though.

ZackMorris 2010-01-10 02:21

Re: Live near D.C?

23rd works for a lot of people, the commute nightmare for those of us spread out would be too much. I agree with Whitlows, Four Seasons is more of darkened pub, RiRa is another place thats good too, but lets rock with Whitlows.

Okay, so have we got a consensus then? The 23rd at Whitlows?

What about mid-afternoon (2 to 3 ish) to meet? Anyone got a street address for Whitlows?

2854 Wilson Blvd
Arlington, VA 22201-3806

But is that Metro (e.g subway) accessible? o.O

It's a short walk from Clarendon on the Orange Line.

Re: Live near D.C?

I'd really be up for this. I've had an N800 for about 2 years now and have only found 2 people with N-series tablets.

I'd be interested in meeting some people from the community and live in the DC area.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned already, but this place isn't a pub, right? I'm a couple years shy of 21, so it would be a problem getting in.
