Hi there, you could access
http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...antle/install/
to download "rootsh.install" and install it.
Then you can gain root by "sudo gainroot" command.

Enjoy it.:)

The flashing kb will drive you mad, so if you just want root access try rootsh. Otherwise you need to use the flasher to enable r&d mode, look at the wiki for the relevant commands.

With the flasher:
Code:

sudo flasher --enable-rd-mode

If you're having problems with sudo on the PC, then have a look at http://www.gratisoft.us/sudo/intro.html - if this doesn't help then you'd be better taking the issue to the relevant forums for your OS/Linux distribution, as the necessary installation/configuration commands can differ.

You can edit /sbin/preinit and remove the lines that echo to some file (the name of the file contains "gpio-state", AFAIK) to stop it from turning on the flashing lights on the keyboard in R&D mode.

Re: How to Enable RD mode in N900??

Seriously?

That would be your OWN user account password. Based on your question, I'm not sure you should be running as root.

lol what do you mean? N900 is fully unlocked , just install root app and type in x-term root

You're probably using Windows. No need to use sudo there, just make sure your user has admin privileges and type:
Code:

flasher-3.5.exe --enable-rd-mode

Your own user password (the one you use to log-on to your computer). Alternatively instead of using sudo you can switch to root using any means possible then just type
Code:

flasher --enable-rd-mode

Does this mean the device gets reflashed?

well,as much as i know abt ur condition,i can say that maybe u have installed ssh server client and when u install that application it asks for password and u have to give password, and now whenever you do something with the root privileges it asks for password but the same problem is with me that the pass doesnt enter ... i dont know what the problem is but maybe u can try uninstalling the ssh server client .. then the password removes (worked for me)

Re: How to Enable RD mode in N900??

no need to reopen and old thread with (by the way) useless information.

Dragoss91 didn't know how sudo works on his PC. Nothing to do with the N900.

Re: How to Enable RD mode in N900??

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but i'm in the process of enabling rd mode (to install maemo on external card).
I've used the 770 Flasher for OSX after failing in Ubuntu. Reflashing works, but when i enter

Code:

sudo flasher --enable-rd-mode
X-Terminal asks for a password. The lock code doesn't work, neither does 12345. Anyone know the pw or workaround?

What the heck do lock codes have to do with you running sudo on your own computer?!?!

Did you think of looking at the man page for the sudo program on your computer? If not, why not? If so, what bit of "sudo requires that users authenticate themselves with a password by default" (plus its surrounding context) did you not understand?

Hey, next time add a few 111's in the exclamation, your point will get across even better.
I mentioned the lock code since it's the only thing that resembles a superuser password.

Following Durango's emmc workaround (link), before installing maemo on micro sd you need rootsh from a .deb. I've copied the 'emmcfix' folder to the FAT32 partition on the mSD card.
Installing rootsh requires sudo, sudo requires a password. Which i don't know bc i did not enter one neither found any info about it.
I'm sure it's not the chicken-or-egg problem it appears to be but i'm stuck nonetheless. Please advice, or exclaim if you must
