cant access some websites with n900

Im having trouble accessing some websites using my n900, i am using my home network as a connection.
Wondered if anyone else is having similar problems and if there is a easy way to resolve it?
Some sites i cant access; ovi store, maemo select, online banking to name but a few!
thanks in advance

...well - maybe you were just not patient enough.
It happens to me also that the browser stays “white” for a couple of seconds (up 15). And suddenly the page is there. I think there is another thread about this phenomenon already. Somehow the MicroB browser suddenly eats up CPU.

Re: cant access some websites with n900

I can certainly access the ovi store & maemo select without any issue. I take it that you can actually reach some sites okay?

Re: cant access some websites with n900

lol yes some times i am not patient especialy when waiting for mobile phones direct to send me my n900!!
Im afraid this isnt the case i let the page try to load for about 5 mins some times but still nothing.
It may have somethimg to do with my router settings but i am not sure.

Re: cant access some websites with n900

Very odd - I was thinking firewall/routing issues but those are very unlikely to only affect some sites. Can you access the sites okay from other PCs on the network?

Re: cant access some websites with n900

Have you tried with both browsers

MicroB / Firefox beta (Fennec)?

Rob1n 2009-12-11 16:04

Re: cant access some websites with n900

You could try pinging the sites from the N900. Unfortunately there's no traceroute module on there (which would be more usefule), but you could do traceroute from a PC, then try pinging all the steps from the N900 to see which one stops responding.

This seems to be solved if you flush the browser history

This has not helped, i have just been out and tried it on 3G network and websites work!! so this proofs that it is probably my router.
Im sure there are lots of people on here that know allot about networks wonder if any of them could help?

Now wishing to cast any aspersions, but does your router/ISP include any sort of 'child protection' settings? Might that be interfering?

Hi RevdKathy and thanks for your input.
no child restrictions present all other computers on the network can access any site.

Ahh, ok. Maybe it's just your n900 is a prude, then ;) It was certainly something to rule out.

Wierd if other things wirelessly connected can access the sites, and n900 can if connected over gps but n900 over wifi can't. Most illogical.

Re: cant access some websites with n900

This sounds like some sort of Proxy issue. Have you set up any proxy servers in your browser.

From: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/mobile/

Mozilla already changed the name to Firefox mobile (Fennec was the project name).

Re: cant access some websites with n900

Go to this link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/m/ on your N900 & click "Download".

(It's actually Firefox Mobile Beta) because it's still a project in progress.

Re: cant access some websites with n900

Thank you for your response god! (never thought i would say that)
I cant seem to download mozzila for some reason. Says download failed.
wish i could get this sorted.

Re: cant access some websites with n900

This seems weird...

So once you click the download link, it just says "download failed"?

What are the EXACT symptoms?

I don't own an N900 myself, so I can't get very specific about it! Sorry.

It seems like your connection gets interrupted on your device.

Errr...have you tried with a different internet connection? or a 3G?

@Alfa
can you check on your N900 your settings->Internet connections wizard and check that proxys are not set?

Re: cant access some websites with n900

I'd recommend against installing fennec for now unless absolutely necessary, fennec/mobile firefox itself is optified (4mb) but the xulrunner dependency (20+ mb) goes in /, and will contribute very quickly to filling the smallest partition on the device.

Re: cant access some websites with n900

Ok i seem to have the same problem.
Can't access some websites over wifi with N900 both default browser and firefox.
Particular sites include www.businessweek.com
Other PCs on network access the sites just fine.

VII 2010-01-11 22:17

Re: cant access some websites with n900

Performed some testing and it appears to be some incompatibility with the router, even though the routers firewall is turned off if the device is not set as DMZ many sites become inaccessible.
(Ping returns invalid adress and entering the servers ip results in no answer)
All other devices in the network don't have any problems.

Router is an Arris 54g telephony modem.

No problems with BW here in either Microb or fennec. Came up very quickly - all flash displayed.
