Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
I appreciate it will be more complex due to the cover, but that should not make it a "no go". I expect strong demand- in spite of extra chunky footprint. 1700mah would be the sweet spot. Minimize the chunk, but allow me to play more funk :)

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
I was hoping for a battery with more mah in the same package. probally a 1500mah. I was getting like 7hours at best. I turned down the britness 1 block and and turned off the 3G. Now I am up to 2 1/2 days with a normal amount of calls, listening to music, turning on the 3g for web browsing (maybe 1 hour total over the 2 1/2 days) and back off, and last about 1 hour of wifi use.

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
What about the Nokia Extra Power DC-11, the "official solution"? It has 1500 mAh btw.

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
What this phone needs is 3000 mAh. When I was using my N810 tethered to an E71, I could get a normal day's use out of the two of them. Both have a 1500 mAh battery. Do the math...
The N900 is great tech, but it chews down its battery like there's no tomorrow. And well it might, 'cause if you start in the morning, there'll be no afternoon :-) |
Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
I heard good things about mugen batteries. They should be able to make a 1500mAh one that fits in the original case of the N900. Give them some time or send them an email to express interest.

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
Muggen already did this batterie for the N97 : HLI-BP4LSL 1800 mAh
look here : http://www.mugenpowerbatterijen.nl/ Can't wait to have a 1800 mAh batterie for my N900 :) |
Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
Even if looking for an extended battery is a good approach, I would suggest looking for ways to make the phone draw less power.
I'm thinking things like having a software mod that automatically switches to GSM connection when there is no data connection and a home GSM network is available, and to UMTS connection when a data connection is requested. Or severly scale back CPU when the screen is not in use . Or using a tickless kernel to reduce CPU wakeups. I saw that there is a hot thread about powertop - we need a better tool, I think it's too focused on x86; I've been trying to use powertop on another ARM platform, and it's not that suitable to the job. The goal would be to get 2-3 days usage with a standard battery, and then 5-6 days with an extended battery; that would start to be really portable device. |
Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
I would greatly love to see a MUCH higher capacity battery made available for the N900 with a replacement back with a functional kickstand. The stand on the N900 is incredibly bad, especially considering the excellent design of the ones used on the N800/N810. Anyone involved in the hardware design for the N900 should frankly be embarrassed. The thing is so far offset to the left that the center of the mass actually causes it to wobble in the one and only default position!

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
I have written an email to them but maybe they will be more interested in this if other users do the same!?

The second problem is that the n900 can not lie level on its back. with a little care in design, an improved back could take care of this and enable an app to check levelness in two dimensions at once. So, an improved back would enable: 1. larger battery 2. decent stand 3. decent flash and backlit photos 4. a decent "spirit level" app |
Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
I have also sent them an email. A larger battery would allow me to run my screen full brightness and everything connected all the time sounds like something I wouldn't mind paying for, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
so lucky you guys get 2 days out of it . mine barely lasts just under a day when i dont really use it. 20 minutes web browsing , couple texts today . thats it . in my pocket at work and battery goes down. brightness on 2 . no wifi no widgets no internet connection when not in use . nothn . wtf

What if you just put it in offline mode for a morning? (OK , this means no calls :-) What if you switch it to 2G/GSM? |
Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
still the same . the battery has improved slightly ( like 20 mah lol ) since i had the phone . *off topic* nokia needs to have spare parts. i want to replace my screen cuz it has a little scratch on it !

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
For the record: I also wrote an E-Mail to customerservice@mugenbattery.com :
--- Hi there at Mugen Batteries, I am interested in a Mugen-quality battery for the Nokia N900 as a replacement for the Original Nokia BL-5J. The BL-5J is also used in the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, has 1320 mAh capacity and should be pretty popular. Especially with the N900, which uses lots of energy, a battery for this device could be a great hit. Are there already plans to make a higher capacity replacement for the Nokia BL-5J battery? Thanks and best regards, ... --- |

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
yea, we will see what they come up with.. the n900 is most probably a profitable device for them as battery on this cant really be enough for all the things it can be used for. I might be interested in a really big one for travels and other things where it is more used as kamera/video/laptop/gps even if it adds 4-5mm to thickness.. I would still use standard battery for day to day, mobilephone/communication things..

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
That is good and bad news.
Good news is that they are working on an extended battery Bad news is that this will make the N900 bigger (thicker) I was hoping that they would release a 1500mAh battery with the same size as the Nokia battery. |
Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
"2300-2400mAh battery in February 2010"
I guess it will come with a larger back case. I was hoping for more of a 1500mAh so that it will fit in the original casing. The N900 is thick enough already... |
Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
Its not the worst thing in the world - I have to agree that a 1500mAh would be a good option, but how useful would it be when this thing has the potential to get through 1320mAh in so little time. I'm sure they'll get one done eventually as they did with the N810 etc but from some emails Mugen sent to users here, sounds like they were having trouble with keeping the size the same but increasing the power.
Someone else posted these points here earlier, but a new back cover could solve a few probs including the thing not lying flat when you lie it down for the spirit level app, the reflection in photos from the shiny bit surrounding the camera lens cover and, if we're lucky, we might get a sturdier kick stand! Plus, it will be nothing like as big as the 3000mAh+ batteries they put out, so hopefully it'll only be a few mm thicker. I'll bite their hand off for one when they get them out :-) |

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
90 bucks for an extended battery? No thanks. I'd have to toss my new PDair case. I'll stick with using my Tekkeon charger that runs off of four 2700mah AA batteries. I'm running my N900 with a cheap replacement Nokia 5800 "1450mah" battery(1250mah according to the batlevel utility). My fully charged stock battery is kept handy just in case I get stranded somewhere. By the looks of it, Nokia could have used the E90's BP-4L battery.

Yup, my thoughts too.

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
when somebody orders the high capacity battery from mugen can he post a photo here?
I'd like to see it more clearly. thanks Ian |
Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
haha the N900 is already chunky, I don't know if this Mugen solution is acceptable... Just look at that chunk!! 25mm! when's the last timeyou carried anything that big? I mean come on this is 2010 is this the best we can do>>!?
|
Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?
That is going to make it pretty big:( Anyone know if anyone else is working on a battery? What's nokia stance on this? They could profit here too.

Now, if an N900i functioned solely on a virtual keyboard, perhaps they could cram a similar extended capacity battery while keeping the thickness of the original N900. :) |

Well... I have no clue about a quality, but here:
http://nokiaaddict.com/2010/02/09/th...ttery-2400mah/ A dude at the bottom says that he is fine with this battery.... It's not that much money and seller has like 99.XX reputation and there is already sold about 382 of... My guess - it should be ok. I did order and - will see... :) |
