Carman for Maemo 5?
Does anyone know if the Carman project will get bought over to Maemo 5? I've been searching around, but I haven't found any news one way or another. Thanks!

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Interested, too! Now that I have an always-with-me NIT, it makes much more sense. And my ODB2>Bluetooth adapter sits currently unused in the car... Help! We need CAR-MAN :-)
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
ye i would love to see too how that is running.. any guide on howto installed it on my n900? and do i need to install python?
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I really hope that someone tells how to install this in n900.
I have an obd/bluetooth dongle too in my car unused... |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Count me in as another one who would love to see this ported over.
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
ive tried to install carman on the n900 but it would not ..

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Those guys have been quiet on the update front, on Canola and Carman. I'm not hooked into any of the chat rooms or anything, so for all I know there could be ongoing discussion on both of them (Canola and Carman) all the time, but I was sorta under the impression that they had moved on. Speaking of Carman, the whole "need to be root to set the symbolic link to the new version of the library" was not fun for me. Just sayin.

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
so is carman dead for the maemo 5?
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
The first step for this i pretty straightforward - download package, unpack, chech dependencies and repack deb. I think this would work out of the box, if not - any skilled developer can fix the issues.

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
i am also interested about carman.
i sent those guys an email a few weeks ago to see if they plan to make carman for N900 but unfortunately they didn't reply. |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I would Love to see this as well. I just got ScanXL for my Laptop, but N900 would be way cooler!
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
ye if we somehow could get a developer to try it out and get it in extra-devel i would love to test and give feedback
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I had carman on my Nokia 770 and it rocked. (that's the reason I bought the bluetooth OBD II )
Now my 770 is dead so I am desperately waiting for more news. |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
well source code is out there, just waiting for someone to compile for N900. After that I think Carman needs a bit of development to include google maps. the tracking feature is fine and maybe a boost gauge for cars with turbo/supercharger and a few more themes.

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
If I get some time today I'll try doing a maemo5 build,. though I don't have an N900 to test on. I've also let my buddy know as he's an awesome developer and was asking about OBDII stuff the other day for his N900...

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I am happy to step forward as a tester for you.
I think one of the dependencies that gives the biggest problem is Python on original 0.7 version and pymaemo. even getting the 386 deb was difficult to get running on my debian machine. now I just run nGhost. http://wiki.openice.org/index.php?title=Main_Page |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Going to check out if carman builds and run in the N900 tonight... let you guys know the status :)
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
okay cool Spenc3 looking forward to that
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Me too, very interested in this development...
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I like to test it out too on my N900. I would love to have this application, rather than use my old clumsy slow application automobile on my N78. I have ODBKEY bluetooth. I would like to datalog the car performance as I want to check car performance between Petrol to E85 with my flexi fuel kit.

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I was able to build each components in SDK. Going to try how this works in the N900 sometime this weekend. I guess that's when the real "FUN" of debugging begins...

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
okay sounds good Spenc3, looking forward to hear your respons this weekend

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Good and (mostly) bad news:
The software packages are compilable.. but the issue is the UI dependencies are non-existent in N900 :( I'll try to take a look at try to revive the project I guess. Can't promise anything in a quick timeframe as this may result in some re-write on the GUI... |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
news is good news :-)

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Have you seen this project?
It details how to build your own ODB2 to USB adapter, on the cheap. http://www.obddiag.net/allpro.html |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
nice but how are you suppose to connect it to the N900 which does not have USB host mode?
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Could it be connected via the usb interface in the n900?
I got an application installed on my n900 called usbcontrol (available now on the extra-devel) which suppose to allow usb stuff to connect this way, such as mouse or keyboard or even external wireless adapters... while it runs fine, I have not attempted to make any changes with it... until I understand how it suppose to work. |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
have you seen this interesting list?

I can do N900 (beta)testing too if needed. |
