Hey Maemo(5), I'm not left-handed!
I'm surprised not to find a thread related to this. Aren't other people annoyed by the tap-and-hold pop-up menu positioning? I pretty much all the time use the screen with my right hand fingers, and this menu always opens so that I'm not able to see the contents without moving my head or browsing through the entire menu with my finger.
I know you left-handed people are getting your revenge when reading this. Since the functionality seems to be consistent through out all applications, would it be possible to make this a configurable feature? I want my menu to open left from the tap position. |
Re: Hey Maemo(5), I'm not left-handed!
Well, it opens just like on your desktop computer.
This is a mobile computer, after all :P |
Re: Hey Maemo(5), I'm not left-handed!
i'd guess that it is only "industry standard". go ahead and file a bug if you want and see if it could be fixed.

Bugzilla search told me that there is already a bug opened, but not much hope given for Fremantle fix.

Yes, I just like to complain here, what would I do with a perfect OS? :)

Re: Hey Maemo(5), I'm not left-handed!
Yes, I've noticed this too. The other thing that seems a little awkward is the location of the menu/app launch button on the screen - if I'm using the device one handed, I have to reach the whole way across the screen with my thumb to press it.

It's your parents' fault, not Nokia's. :p

I'm annoyed with it as well, so I'm going to vote for it. Others should too if you feel like it's important.

Re: Hey Maemo(5), I'm not left-handed!
You should be able to release your finger after the menu pops up. Unfortunately in the browser it tends to close the menu again...
Many right handed people hold their phones in their left hand by the way, not that this helps much with this anyway. In general, it's best if popups are avoided in the UI. |
Re: Hey Maemo(5), I'm not left-handed!
Even having the menu appear such that one's finger is at the bottom-left corner*, rather than top-left, might be an improvement. Yes, I'm sure designers have thoughtfully optimized the ordering of menu items from top to bottom, most to least used. But like the cat in the box, does a menu hidden behind a thumb have any ordering for its items?
