Contacts Skype login fail

Is anyone having trouble login into Skype on the N900? In the last 24hrs my phone has not been able to login to Skype. Each attempt to login returns "user name or password incorrect" Any ideas

Same here. It started today, previously it worked ok. No idea what is going on.

Hmm I am still having problems. I can log in on Skype's webpage so my account is ok. Can it be operator related? Can the operator block Skype?

Did you try with Wlan.

Yes most likely as I have been trying from home to connect BUT I'll try again when I get home and verify that I am using my w-lan.

Its not working using my w-lan. Google talk is ok. This is strange.

Re: Contacts Skype login fail

If Skype works in your PC and Google in your phone I would say that there's error N900 Skype configuration.

Re: Contacts Skype login fail

Ok so now I have tried just about everything I can think of.
I have reset my password to Skype.
I have tried Skype on my PC and logged in on Skype's web page (OK).
I have written my password in a normal textbox just to make sure I typed it correctly and from there copy-pasted it. Web page login from the N900 works but not working in N900's IM accounts setup.

Re: Contacts Skype login fail

You must have the "+" at the start of the number and include country code. For U.S. numbers, the form should be:

+15558675309

Where 1 is the country code, 555 is the area code, and 8675309 is the number.

Without the "+", Skype won't work and say "incorrect address". You can edit your contact list to include the "+". When editing the contact phone number, just press the "s" key for a plus sign. You don't need to hold down the blue/green arrow key while pressing the "s" key.

This has been reported as a bug. Hopefully a fix will be issued because it is hard to figure out what is wrong otherwise.

I do think you are right it may be a Skype config problem. I have been able to login on my N95 using fring application hence I'm sure that Skype is not broken for third party apps. We need some more people to report this to verify this as a bug. At the moment only http://talk.maemo.org/member.php?u=25168 (Jerra) has corroborated this problem which gives me some reassurance I'm not alone.

This is a problem logging in rather than as I understand your as being putting the right address or number format to make a call. The Contacts application just will not login to Skype. Skype mane and password are correct. All the same thanks for your post.

Re: Contacts Skype login fail

I forgot to mention one thing I also did.
I deleted the Skype account from my N900 and tried setting it up again. Just in case there were any corrupted files, settings with my previous N900 Skype setup.

I also cannot see the connection between phone number format and the fact that I can't login to Skype.

Re: Contacts Skype login fail

I can confirm this with my newly created Skype accout. I successfully logged into Skype this morning using 3G. This was my first login with my Skype account.

Back from work the N900 switched from 3G to wlan and now I can no longer log in. Nether with wlan nor with 3G.

The error message I get is 'network error'. That's all.

Your situation is really problematic for me seems to work.

There is already a bugzilla entry for this:

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6696

Someone suggested to reboot the device to (temporarily) fix the problem. This worked for me.

Aren't we discussing two different problems now?

"Network error" and the other "user name or password incorrect"

Oh well sorry, could be that I mixed things up. From the threads topic I thought it is the same problem and only the error messages would differ.

But maybe you are right and we both have different problems with Skype.

No need to be sorry! :)
My only concern would that there are essentially two problems and both needs to be addressed. I understand the "network" issue is already filed under Bugzilla.

I managed to login now! Was on my w-lan and same problem, switched to 3G and it worked. So it was the same bug?! (:

Not sure if it's the same bug but just as a little hint: after my reboot it is still working for me even after 2 or 3 network switches.

Problem still there I may as well file a Bugzilla report.

I have the "user name or password incorrect" problem too. Have tried 2 or 3 WLANs and 3G, rebooted several times and deleted/re-created the IM settings. No success. It used to work, but stopped working about the same time when you reported the problem.

Re: Contacts Skype login fail

I had this problem aswell. Nothing seemed to help - I deleted the account, created it again, rebooted...

Finally I used my other account, just changed the username and password, and was able to login. Then I logged out and changed back the original account details and now Skype is working again.

Clearly a bug, but seems to be easy to go around.

Hi,
I have the same issue. Skype was happily working up until last week. Whereby I now how the same "user name or password incorrect" error issue. I've tried all the points like you below to try and rectify the issue without success.

Other IM accounts still work find on the N900, only Skype IM is the one with the issue.

The only think I can think of now is that that the issue was instigated due to a conflict with another software app I installed from the extras repository..???

I'm getting "not signed in" for Skype. Everything else works. I've even updated to the latest firmware and still this problem.

Re: Contacts Skype login fail

you are not the only one experiencing the skype auth problem:

after working nicely for over a month skype gives me 'authentication failure' for the last few days (after PR1.1?!). the problem occurs when connecting via wifi as well as cellular connection.

skype login works fine when perfomed with the same login data from skype client on other machines. deleting and reentering account data on the n900 doesn't do the trick either.
_

workaround:

as already pointed out by someone, deleting the account, signing in with a different account and vice versa enables you to successfully login with your original account again.

remark: when trying to login with the temporary/helping account, i failed signing in with 'not signed in'.

cheers

Thanks the workaround worked a treat :)

The same thing happened to me as well. There is a simple workaround, which consists in completely deleting your Skype account and recreating one. The procedure goes as follows:

- Open an X terminal
- Type the following command: rm -rf .Skype
- Exit the X terminal
- Go to Settings, and recreate a Skype account.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem, your suggestion didn't help me:
It seems built in Skype has problems to acces .Skype folder due to inadequate permission in new PR 1.2 firmware.
I solved it this way:
- Open an X terminal
- sudo gainroot (you need to have installed root acces]
- rm -rf .Skype
- mkdir .Skype
-chmod 777 .Skype (probably its not necessary to allow everything, but this works for sure)
