[Maemo 5] Facebook chat

Has anyone had any trouble using the chat feature on Facebook? I've had iffy success at best -- the message sends, but half the time, FB tells me that it could not connect and it delays sending it for a few minutes.

Or maybe it's me. I'm a newbie, so apologies for that.

An integrated (into the contact app) version of facebook chat is coming along.
I haven't tried using it much in the browser yet.

Works fine for me, but that's in 3.5g or wifi.... - have to admit i much prefer not using it on the N900 though!

I was using wifi, actually (haven't stuck a TMobile card in yet). Maybe it was a one-time shot.

ForzaHudd,

I would suggest trying it in pop out mode, or enter use lite.facebook.com then launch FB chat. It will then give you a dedicated chat window. Atleast until the integrated FB chat plugin is released.

Anyone had any luck installing this pidgin plugin?,

I also have trouble using the chat on facebook website when connected though 3g, but it works ok on wifi through.

Also i keep hearing people saying about how an integrated msn, twiter, facebook etc will come, but is there actually an official announcement / guaranty from nokia that this is gonna be included. Or is the community just expected to do it?

Did you power your N900 off and then back on after installing the Facebook chat add-on?

I haven't added Facebook chat for that reason.. I don't want it to add every single one of my Facebook friends into my contacts..

Re: [Maemo 5] Facebook chat

Facebook chat is nicely integrated in the Conversations app. However Facebook doesn't allow sending offline messages which is bad. It would be nice that the Conv app hides offline Facebook users just like the case for the offline Skype contacts.

Re: [Maemo 5] Facebook chat

You can switch the view to availability in contacts.

Re: [Maemo 5] Facebook chat

After a while today i decided to add facebook chat through VOIP and IM Accounts Settings but i cant see Facebook icon in the list anymore. For now ive added it using old Jabber way.

My question is, is it just me or facebook chat integration was taken out with some update?

casketizer 2011-03-24 20:38

Re: [Maemo 5] Facebook chat

Still available on mine (PR1.3, no CSSU).

niqbal 2011-03-24 20:43

Re: [Maemo 5] Facebook chat

i am baffled. i have PR 1.3 - 20.2010.36-2 CSSU and facebook chat for some reason is missing.

Re: [Maemo 5] Facebook chat

I added my facebook account in PR 1.3 without CSSU, was working great.

after the upgrade to CSSU 20.2010.36-2maemo14.1 the facebook info is gone from my contacts and i can't add a new facebook account in my "Voip and Chat Accounts"

Any help for that?

niqbal 2011-05-08 15:07

Re: [Maemo 5] Facebook chat

Code:

apt-get install rtcom-accounts-plugin-facebook
it will bring facebook IM plugin in Settings - VOIP and IM accounts dialog

Has facebook made some changes or is it the new chat system that my fb friends profile picture doesn't show up as a contact avatar anymore? Or is it only me with this problem?

Facebook recently integrated Skype in it's chat client.

A little gift from their partner Microsoft.

well at least its not like nokia that practically banned us from ovi chat.

unlike when sony removed a few things from the ps3, no one uses ovi chat, but the laws of some countries prevent removing features.
sony its getting sued, someone sue nokia.
