Internal errors and no access to memory
Hey!
Just received my phone a couple of days ago and got several problems from the start that I hoped you could help me with. When I try to access the web application I get "internal error. Application web closed" This message also pops up every minute. Another message that also pops up every minute is "unable to receive or send messages. Device storage full. remove data to free memory" Even though I got 26,41 gb available. Also when I try to use the camera I get the following message. "Memory not accessible. Unable to save content" I haven't downloaded any applications in testing or anything like that, The few things I've downloaded where all through app manager. So is there anything I can do to fix this or should I just try to get this phone replaced? |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
Sounds dicy.
Can you show the output of the commands (in X-terminal) mount and df -h ? |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
mount gives the following

Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
Well, all that looks pretty normal. I admit I don't have a clue what the trouble is. Sorry!
It might be worth running dmesg to see if there's any errors from the storage drivers.. Only other thing I can think of is that it might be something to do with using the storage over usb from another computer.. Not much help, I'm afraid. |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
Thanks anyway. Couldn't find any error when I typed dmesg.
Another probelm connected with the memory is that in media player it says no song and no videos but can find both when I connect the phone to the computer. Also in file manager I can't find anything, says (no files/folders) |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
I have exactly the same problem on my N900 received today. If anyone has an answer to this issue, please let me know.

Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
I have also suffered these problems. The internal error shutting down the browser is a minor issue for me personally.
The unable to recieve or send messages memory issue is irritating me however, it come and goes so I figure something I am running is causing it? Though so far it does not seem to have prevented me sending or recieving messages of any kind, just pops up every 30 seconds or so usually in evening rather oddly. Also, I accessed extras-devel previously with no problem prior to the above issues, tried to get back in today for something and it is unavailable due to 'write error- write (28 no space left on device)'. Can anyone tell me where this memory might be lacking, I have 15 gig free of storage? Though looking in Conky both rootfs and mmc1 are 100% full. Output of mount rootfs on / type rootfs (rw) ubi0:rootfs on / type ubifs (rw,bulk_read,no_chk_data_crc) proc on /proc type proc (rw) sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw) tmpfs on /tmp type tmpfs (rw,noatime,size=1024k) tmpfs on /var/run type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,noatime,size=256k,mode=755) none on /dev type tmpfs (rw,noatime,size=10240k,mode=755) devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620) tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime,size=65536k) /dev/mmcblk0p2 on /home type ext3 (rw,noatime,errors=continue,commit=1,data=writebac k) /dev/mmcblk0p1 on /home/user/MyDocs type vfat (rw,noauto, nodev, noexec, nosuid, noatime, nodiratime, utf8,uid=29999,shortname=mixed,dmask=000,fmask=013 3,rodir) Output of df -h Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on rootfs 227.9M 222.9M 832.0k 100% / ubi0:rootfs 227.9M 222.9M 832.0k 100% / tmpfs 1.0M 64.0k 960.0k 6% /tmp tmpfs 256.0k 72.0k 184.0k 28% /var/run none 10.0M 72.0k 9.9M 1% /dev tmpfs 64.0M 4.0k 64.0M 0% /dev/shm /dev/mmcblk0p2 2.0G 317.1M 1.6G 17% /home /dev/mmcblk0p1 27.0G 12.5G 14.5G 46% /home/user/MyDocs Seems to be at least a couple of with this problem now, any help would be very much appreciated. |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
Any solution on this. Im now getting error 28 no space left on device when trying to open extras-dev in repositories. dmesg reveals no errors.

Goto the terminal and become root. Then type "apt-get clean" Temporary fix....until you remove some apps I guess |

Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
The N900 wasn't connected to the PC when I typed dmesg or when I was in media player or the file manager. The only time i had it connected to the PC was when I transfered a file to the phone to see if it wwould show up. It didn't, and it was also then I diiscovered that there already were mutiple files on it that I couldn't see. BVut called the helpdesk yesterday and they told me to send the phone back for service, so will hopefully get back a fully functioning phone soon.

Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
I got that same error when i was updating my applications list after i manually added extra-testing repository. Phone was connected to a computer by mass storage option. Then i tried to update that list while phone was off from computer. Same again. Now trying to update by apt-get.

Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
apt-get update went well. now it tells me in programs manager this:
http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...el/Packages.gz Write error - write (28 No space left on device) |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
And now it says this in the log:
Code:
hildon-application-manager 2.2.35-3 First one is from when i try to refresh lists in application manager.. Second and third from when i try to remove something. So apt lists are somehow locked? |

Solved this one by myself clap-clap. After scrolling down several linux pages: I decided to make that lock -file and after that it didn't find some other directory, made that aswell. Now it's working. Hope this helps others. |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
Been lurking for a while, getting to know the N900 and finally ordered it on the 29th Dec. Got my N900 today, all excited, switched on the n900 and connected the charger, set the language, time and date and then almost immediately got the "Internal error. Application 'Web' Closed" error message!!
I've installed rootsh to get "sudo gainroot" to do a "apt-get clean", but no joy. The potential error from dmesg, is that it says my sd device needs updating? I've got a 16GB class 6 microsd installed. Anyone any ideas? Cheers. update: also just noticed there's no theme in the background, and trying to change it does nothing? Hope this doesn't mean I have to flash the device already? |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
Tried the camera and it can't save images due to "unable to access internal memory".....

( I have however had the out of memory unable to send messages error since - a restart fixed this issue too). |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
no joy unfortunately. The camera app doesn't allow me to change where to save images, it's grayed out...
Reset to default settings and rebooting had no effect either....I feel a reflash coming on. I'm not adverse to hacking, but it's such a shame to get something I've wanted for ages and to get these problems out of the box. :( |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
I had the memory problems to, but the cause is that when you simply unplug the N900 from your pc (without Eject or save hardware removal) the phone can sometimes think it is still connected. (only had this problem connected to Windows machines) Linux gives no issues. But simply turning your phone off and on again will solve this.
NOTE: if you haven't found this out allready the N900 locks the access to your N900 HDD and Flash Card when connected to a pc as mass storage mode. Disconnecting the nokia without the Eject or Save Removal option (Windows) can cause the Memory access. This wil only be solved after a reboot of your phone. P.S. the N900 has roughly 900MB storage to install apps, i doubt that anyone can get that full within 2 weeks. |

Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
Thanks for the replies :)
When the problem first happened I hadn't connected it to anything. It was having taken it straight out of the box. The only package I've installed was Rootsh, after setting up the wifi connection. I have since connected it to my PC (XP sp3) and safely removed the drives, but the problen still persists... I've also got a "3" sim card, so will have to wait for the new firmware to come out to use it :) (Sim card not installed before I got the problem) |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
Well I've solved it!
Having flashed the firmware via NSU, I still had the internal error problem. Did a bit more googling and found this discussion: http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/...cending&page=2 So I've re-flashed the eMMC image and.... it WORKS! now the playing begins :):) |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
I solved it too. I had only 19MB free in the home partition. The 2GB partition I mean. Just freed up some space and it worked.

Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
hey how did u do it... can u pls help me in removing the memory,,,

Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
Sorry about the bump! But I really need help with this problem and this felt like the right thread. I also get the "memory not accessible". Mainly when using camera and trying to capture a picture.
I'm unable to create new folders or files in the root directory (or any sub directory for MyDocs for that matter). msg: "location is read only". My angry birds game does save new highscores so doensn't seem to effect var/. I can also create and edit stuff under usr/. So the problem only seems to effect home directory. I have tried to reconnect my N900 to desktop computer as mass storage and pc suit mode and then disconnecting them using "safely remove hardware", rebooted, but no results. :( I'd really appreciate some help regarding this. Don't really feel like reflashing the thing all over again. :( |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
bump. anyone please?

Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
Hi,
I have a similar problem, appreciate any help from the experts. I installed sygic maps, wasnt able to get the maps working. The sygic was giving error as SD card access denied. So I decided to uninstall and reinstall. The installation didnt go through and the application manager crashed. Now mobile maps icon is there but doesnt work and doesnt get uninstalled Since then my camera application is giving the above error of memory card. My dmesg gives FAT filesystem error on mmcblk0p1. I feel the only solution is flashing (history of windowscitis), but I read somewhere that in maemo it should never be necessary. So do let me know if anyone has a solution. |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
Hey,
Even i get this problem. I updated the OS from 10.something to 20.2010.36.2. after that, i feel many issues. When i open camera, error msg pops up saying, Memory cant be accessed. Unable to save data. This prevents me from taking a pic. And also, When installing some apps, this problem is shown up.. Says, memory is read only. Connect to a PC to fix this.. What do i do now??? |
Re: Internal errors and no access to memory
I get the same error " Memory Not Accessible. Unable to save content" when i use my camera. I did not install anything new on my phone, and it worked fine until a few days ago. I flashed my phone a couple of weeks ago but it was fine until two days ago. Did someone find a solution to this problem??
