Is anyone using a N900 in India?
In particular, what service are you using it with and are the US/UK models compatible with Indian service providers?
|
Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?
You will have to check your frequency req. 2100 is used on t-mobile and also some places in europe.

Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?
The n900 should work fine on all indian operators for GSM communications.
Since BSNL is the only one with 3g, and also considering that 3g in india is based on the 2100 frequency band, you should be able to use 3g on BSNL as well.. |
Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?
Mine works fine with Airtel. There should not be any problem with any of the service providers.

HELP NEEDED
Hello everyone. I am a big fan of Nokia's new N900. So much so that I have decided not to wait any further and buy it from Finland. One of my relative is in Finland and he will be returning to India on 7th January. However I have some doubts and it would be great if anyone of you could help me out. 1. Will I be able to update the firmware using NSU in India? 2. If something goes wrong with the phone what are my options other than returning it to Nokia Finland? Will Nokia India fix the phone with some charges or it won't be able to do that? 3. I suppose the phone will have English language support. Please comment 4. I noticed that the device was out of stock from Nokia Finland Store. Is the device available at retail outlets or it is only available at Nokia Stores? 5. How much does Nokia usually takes to deliver the phone if booked on the internet? 6. Will it work on BSNL 3G. The frequency is 2100 MHz. 7. Is there anything that I may miss out other than Nokia India warranty by purchasing N900 from Finland? 8. What other points must I keep in mind and convey to my relative in Finland before purchasing the device? Kindly reply as soon as possible as I want to book the device as early as possible. Thank you |

6. I have checked the frequencies and it would work in India. No issues. Any idea when n900 will be launched in India? Estimated price? |
Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?
1. Will I be able to update the firmware using NSU in India?
There is global Firmware which you can flash it with..NSU does not work yet...but updating via wifi OTA is supported i guess..!! 2. If something goes wrong with the phone what are my options other than returning it to Nokia Finland? Will Nokia India fix the phone with some charges or it won't be able to do that? The phone is not officially launched in India, hence repairing at official Nokia Service is Impossible, because they will not be trained to handle the phone and will not stock the spares. 3. I suppose the phone will have English language support. Please comment Obv it will have English language apart from the Nordic and other Languages 4. I noticed that the device was out of stock from Nokia Finland Store. Is the device available at retail outlets or it is only available at Nokia Stores? I bought mine from newegg.com as nokia usa would not authorize my pals card 5. How much does Nokia usually takes to deliver the phone if booked on the internet? Express shipment on nokia said 1-2 business days 6. Will it work on BSNL 3G. The frequency is 2100 MHz. Thats what others have said, I dont have 3G at my home or workplace, hence not been tried by me but EDGE works fine.. 7. Is there anything that I may miss out other than Nokia India warranty by purchasing N900 from Finland? Nope...nothing...the phone runs like its supposed to..infact you will gain the respect of your friends, and obv their envy 8. What other points must I keep in mind and convey to my relative in Finland before purchasing the device? Nothing really, preferably if your relative can get the box mannuals etc, then the resale value of the device is greater, but problems at customs might take place...barring that there is no issue, Ive had my phone for a week on AirTel in kolkata, edge settings was dettected out of box and ive had no problems, no mic issue, no continuous reboots, batter is iffy because of pluings installed, but thats a software thing that can be fixed by flashing the device..congrats on your new purchase though |

1. Rs. 249 - 512 MB free data for a month 2. Rs. 550 - 1 GB free for daytime and 5GB free during night (11pm to 7 am) for a month N900 annuls the use of a laptop thanks to the superior browser embedded to it. And if one is not an internet freak 512 MB on mobile is more than enough. However if need arises there are several data top ups available.:) |
Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?

Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?
3G coverage is very very scanty yet in India, although the prices may seem attractive and all, but the lack of network coverage is what forms the limiting factor, also can any one connect to 3g to give a benchmark. Personally i use edge for messenger mail and light web-browsing, and i;m happy with Airtel EDGE, i dont want to use my phone as a 3g modem, EDGE does the work fine, all the downloading of apps etc takes place at home/work where i have a fast internet wifi connection. 3G will just suck battery, 2sec to load a page or 4, it barely matters...

Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?
the finnish one does not have all arrow keys and is a different set up- it could be more annoying for you- i presume you would rather use an english keyboard set up.. but then i dont know- maybe either way will be an issue for you as your indian, therefor not a massive deal

Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?
Hi friends.
Well I have dropped the idea of N900 from Finland. I have now decided to bring it from USA as it will cost way too less there as compared to Finland. The price of US N900 is Rs. 27000 only. But there's one problem. I have not got many contacts there and whatever contacts I have are not in a mood to come to India recently. I have thus decided to ask them to courier the phone to my address. Here are some doubts. Kindly help me out 1. Which courier company is the least expensive and what is the rate of delivery from USA to New Delhi? 2. Will I have to pay customs on the mobile? I have checked the customs site many times but could not get the required info. Some sites mention cellphones are duty free some say they aren't. Anyone having the details of rate of customs on mobile phones in India please help me. |
Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?
in the uk and probally many other countries it is pot luck if you get stung on customs.. in india thinghs may well be much stricter.
|
Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?
your rate will be your value asdded tax..in the uk its VAT.. not sure what it is in india, it is basicslly the difference between what a consumer and a business pays for a product or service.

1. it said important note - 'your billing and shipping address must be on file with your card provider'. i was thinking of using my hdfc visa credit card for the purchase and ship it to my friend who is going to USA. now it seems i can,t do it as the shipping address will not be in records of my bank. is it so? 2. how can i then order the phone through newegg.com from here in india and ship it to my friend in USA. help me please yaar... |
Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?
i tried all tht you are trying right now, the thing is that u can not buy it using an Indian credit card moreover even if you are using a US CC , u would need to hav both the addresses regietered.
i would again suggest craigslist, coz u could get brand new and cheap n900 from ther simply because many people bought more thn one n900 with 20% cash back provided by dell...and even if they sell not ar 550, they would b making 100$ of it... so go for craigslist, u won't repent it ... |
Re: Is anyone using a N900 in India?
Hi, I recently bought Nokia N900 and am using Vodafone postpaid. I have my GPRS active and it works fine on other mobiles but when I try to connect in N900, it asks me to connect through "Vodafone Mobile Connect" and if I select it it gives an error saying "Internet Connection failed. Try again?".
Any issues with using GPRS (Vodafone Live!) with Nokia N900 ?? Thanks and Regards Vivek |
