Finally, some preview video of Sygic mobile maps on the N900!

Lets hope this will be released soon...

This would be the first payed app on the N900 (afaik)

This is WAAAAAY better then Nokia Maps!! :)
(I'm already using Sygic on my N95 8GB, very easy to use!)

Version for Maemo (Nokia N900) is currently under testing and will be available very soon. It is planned in the beggining of next year, probably in the middle of january.

It was planned for release before the end of 2009, now it looks like it's delayed to january. I hope there are no more delays, I need a good GPS program for my N900

Any fresh news about this Sygic navigation software? Their website keeps saying "coming soon". I need a good GPS application for my N900. Ovi maps, the way it is now, just sucks. :mad:

From what I've seen of Sygic, it's FINALLY a good piece of GPS navigation software, done WELL. It still seems way overpriced for what it is (honestly), but at least it's a fine piece of software and exactly the OPPOSITE of the travesty that is Ovi Maps.

hummm how much is the estimated cost of the software i havent heard/seen any prices

also they say that they have submitted it to nokia but will nokia submit it to ovi before nokia maps is ready as surely it will impact nokias own sales of their own software

i would like to think nokia wouldnt mind and put it up asap onto ovi but who knows

That's a pretty good question and I'm surprised I didn't think to point that out. This is, once again, the problem with the combination of an app store and the removal of the ability to install third party debs in the Application Manager.

been using sygic for the last couple of years on a car pc system

not a bad piece of kit , same sort of layout as tomtom

pretty stable

hurry up sygic/nokia :)

Well I guess today's announcement of turn-by-turn for Ovi maps pretty much kills this....assuming it ever comes to maemo of course.

I wonder if Sygic knew in advance about this Ovi Maps announcement...

Maybe that's why they ported their SW to Maemo, since Nokia doesn't seem to prioritize Ovi Maps for Maemo catching up with Ovi Maps 3.0

I just don't wanna imagine that Nokia is delaying turn-by-turn navigation on purpose in order to not hurt Sygic investments on Maemo platform. If I worked for Sygic and they had launched Ovi Maps 3.0 for Maemo yesterday, I would certainly be pissed off...

Sygic might be a nice SW, the price would be interesting ...
However, given the uncertainty on the availability (and quality) of Ovi Maps (They seem to skip Maemo 5 ... likely)I would not recommend to spend much money on Sygic or any other Maemo 5 SW. It sounds as if M5 and M6 will be as incompatible as previously, and no upgrade paths - well, of course you can buy another Nokia in half a year ;-)

Waiting for the next device with Maemo 6 to solve current deficiencies is something I definitely won't do it. If Ovi Maps 3.0 (with all the benefits they proudly announced) doesn't become available for N900, this will be my last Nokia product at all.
How can be sure that the future Maemo 6 device won't promise some features that would also just be properly implemented in a Maemo 7 device?

I don't think ovi map for n900 will be available any time soon, so if sygic working well, i will gladly pay the fee. Ovi maps sux as it is right now. hope sygic is good.

Well, I don't know how the news of 'free' Ovi Maps will affect Sygic's product, but I've just noticed this posting from the SygicOfficial account on twitter:

Dear Maemo fans, we have sumbitted the app to Nokia Ovi store last Thursday already, waiting for approval.More info/prices/etc. is coming...

Nope, just a N900 owner and if you had checked my profile would see I am from Brazil and therefore have no interest on promoting anyone site. I pre-ordered the phone trusting that Nokia would prioritize Maemo development and Ovi Maps would get at least a basic voice guidance in the first firmware update (PR1.1).

If you wasted your time it is your problem... You probably have sparing time since wasted a little more by writing your post...

according to the official sygic twitter page, satnav app was submitted on 14 jan, that's just about 3 weeks. once nokia approves, shouldn't be long!

If you buy Sygic (once it come out), you would basically have a full gps navigate device in your hand...no need for wifi/3g unless the software allow for updating traffic and such then you will have the option to update them via 3g or wifi. Hope this help. :D
