Can a N900 show music lyrics?
 

Hi to everyone,
I'd like to know if someone could watch music lyrics on his N900. I have spent a lot of time searching for a lyrics viewer, but I've only found the TuneWiki widget that requires to be connected to the Internet, while I need offline lyrics reading from the mp3 tags. Can anyone help me?

Nope. The built in mediaplayer has no way of displaying lyrics from tags at the moment.

Where do you buy your music where you are blessed enough to receive lyrics in your tags?

Ah ah! :) It's not a bless, I usually edit tags manually for adding embedded cover arts, lyrics and things like that. I have a few mp3s but they are just perfect!

I'm sure it should be possible to build a TuneWiki like widget that looks at the tags instead of the net, or possibly to modify the TuneWiki widget to do so.

MediaBox (by pycage) was beginning to implement lyric support if I remember correctly.

I think PyCage is also developing it for Maemo 5. Not sure where you can find it right now though.

the drawback of the tunewiki is, that the database doesnt have a lot lyrics, and most of them are not automatic. that means, you have to skip the lines by yourself.
only very few songs have automatically skipping lyrics.

I think using the Winamp auto-tagger puts lyrics in the tags too if it finds a correct match :)

The Amarok music player for Linux has a panel you can add that displays lyrics. Perhaps a player app could use the same data source. The puzzle then is how to display it.

My first thought is a bodged scrolling algorithm so that 40% of the way through the length of the song, the 40% of the way through the lyrics was position at the middle of a finger-scrollable panel.

MediaBox is now in maemo.org extras repository and displays LRC and enhanced LRC (karaoke style with word-hilighting) lyrics.
