scratch remover?
alright, so it has regtfully happened, i got my first scratch on my beautiful N900... it's so frustrating because i can't find a single place in the UAE that sells screen protectors, and i've been looking even before i bought the phone. anyways in the mall i found this scratch remover; it's some sort of paste that you apply on the screen and it's supposed to work it's magic. what got me worried is that it says not to apply it on touchscreens. this product is old, i've seen it ages ago way before phones had touchscreens. so my question is this: should i give it a shot or not? any of you guys are more experienced in this area or have an alternative?
oh yeah the product is called DISPLEX |
Re: scratch remover?
Hi A77alistic. If I were you, I'd not buy that product. It will probably fix the scratch, but the touchscreen will be certainly compromised and there will be lots of problems in using it. Trust me, leave it in the shop.

Re: scratch remover?
I have 2 tiny scartched on my N900 .. i have done some searching and came up with 2 options:
idrop's Some one at XDA-Developers claimed he used it on HTC tilt and fuze and it worked perfectly. Novus is another solution that should also work. I have ordered the Idrops and once i use it i will tell you about the results :) |
Re: scratch remover?
I tried some of that scratch-removing paste on a screen protector I used with N900. It didn't do much to remove scratches, and it made it kinda milky and less clear than before.
I had previously used it on the hard plastic case screen of my Nokia 6230 non-touch screen, and there it worked beautifully in removing scratches and polishing up the screen. |

Re: scratch remover?

Re: scratch remover?
Hi I replied to you in my post with the protector I use, http://www.zagg.com/
It might be worth a try getting an invisible shield or a clarivue to hide the scratch. I bought a used ipod touch and a used iphone. Both had scratches on the screens, applying those zagg shields really did help hide the scratches, they are now almost unnoticeable.... |
Re: scratch remover?
I managed to put 2 small scratches on my screen i'm guessing from the stylus, 2 days before the clarivue came in. After applying the screen protector I can't see the scratches anymore and the screen is stiffer, more like iphone's capacity screen stiff. Still very responsive.
BTW, I would stay away from those rubber screens like zaggs and invisible shield etc... they grab your stylus. Just my opinion... |
Re: scratch remover?
I think everyone has a different experience, since I ordered my invisible shield reading posts about the stickiness with the stylus etc. I found the stylus works surprisingly well with the invisible shield on. Having used the stylus with the shield off and on, can't really say it's any "stickier" or harder to use. I am just talking about regular use such as when browsing sites etc. using the stylus. Did not try drawing stuff in the sketch application...

On the subject of scratches - I have heard tell of using either toothpaste or a fine polishing product for cars. |
Re: scratch remover?
Yeah the zagg is a real pain to put on, but once it is on properly it does its job. Though I've had issues in the past with lint on the edges, it does have a lifetime warranty fwiw

Re: scratch remover?
I got the Zagg full body shield on my N900.. It was a b!tch to install and was kind of worth it.. The only downside is there is no protection for the corners/side of the screen area.. I have 2 little scratches on the bottom right and top right of the side of the screen.. Not on the actual screen itself but on the "metal/plastic" outer lining area..
Anyone know how I can remove or improve these 2 little scratches? Thanks in advance. |

Re: scratch remover?
Ahoy, I am wondering if there is any update on this thread.
Did you ever get to try idrops? My Screen Prot is still coming (i used to have durasec and ripped it right off, it was way to rubbery and then got the scratch the next day...karma aye). I have like half the screen kind of hazy, I simply placed my phone in my jeans pocket took it out and its terrible. I am wondering if anyone had any luck? |
Re: scratch remover?
i am waiting for my idrop's .. should be here in 3-4 days .. i will tell u about the results :)
|
Re: scratch remover?
Which durasec? Hitec?
|
Re: scratch remover?
Yeh i think it was, I have ordered a whole bunch off ebay to test them out.
The rubbery feel just completley limits the phone. Makes it feel resistive again. Thanks Timooz, cant wait. |
Re: scratch remover?
Unfortunately the idrops thing is useless , i even have more scratches on my screen after i applied it , and the old 2 tiny ones are deeper and more visible. Very disappointed , i want to replace my screen now.
|
Re: scratch remover?
so... how do we all replace our screens now? :P

You might have better luck with Plexus or similar type product. Alway test these thing out before use. good luck. BTW I have the Phantom skinz on the front (fantastic) and IS on the back great protection and a sfbag sleeve. simply clean and non bulky set up. x |
Re: scratch remover?
It is certainly a weak point - the screen gets scratched so easily :-( mine is full of scratches.
|
Re: scratch remover?
I dont have time to read the whole thread but i used displex on my old K800i and it totally destroyed the screen. DO NOT USE DISPLEX rubbish stuff was so annoyed after

Re: scratch remover?
I had two massive scratches on my device. Very disturbing. One was real long like half the width of the screen. However, it was very very feint and only visible in very bright sunlight. The other was not as long but rainbow coloured so very very visible in any conditions. But I scratch remover which failed to remove either scratch and to my frustration turned the longer scratch rainbow coloured as well so always visible.

I just got a scratch on the screen of my new N900, with -get this- MY FINGERNAIL  and another one a minute later with the stylus after it tutched the previous scratch. so i'm just gonna wait calmly for my 3M vikuity screen protector to arive, and hopefully it will cover the scratches, and prevent new ones |
Re: scratch remover?
Yup a screen protector is a necessity if you want to prevent scratches.
