Reboot
My nokia n900 always reboot
|
Re: Reboot
Hi Elie. As far as I know, this is a common problem. What you can actually do is voting for the appropriate bug in Bugzilla and trying to change your N900 with a new one using your warranty by Nokia.

Re: Reboot
Please see thread about starting it up in R&D mode, should correct the issue.

Re: Reboot
I really don't understand why people are still happy to accept this as a software problem. It's sloppy QA, nothing more, nothing less. There are a bunch of devices out there which were, for whatever reason, not assembled to the usual Nokia standards. Those who were unfortunate enough to end up being supplied with one of them (myself included) put up with random reboots and other bizarre problems. After exchanging the troublesome device for a new one, no more reboots and problems. All the N900's being supplied at the moment have the same firmware revision loaded. If some reboot, while others do not, what else could it be but a hardware problem?
I can understand why Nokia might not want to make an official announcement confirming manufacturing problems with some of its products. But to then stand by while software engineers and customers spend valuable time testing possible work arounds in an attempt to identify an alleged software problem is reprehensible in my view. If this was a software issue, then all N900's would exhibit the same symptoms, since they all have the same firmware load. IF YOUR N900 DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY THEN FFS GET IT REPLACED FOR ONE THAT DOES!!!! |

I know many similar situations. Of cource it is hardware, but it may have nothing to do with sloppy QA or sloppy specs. It may simply be natural spread in actual HW specs that is not accounted for in the (immature) drivers. The work around works excellent, no problems at all except your battery will last shorter when the N900 is lying on the table doing nothing. So, for many. the least of two evils is to do the work around, at least untill we are more certain if this can be fixed in software (or not), and more sets are produced. |
Re: Reboot
I think it has something to do with media player and browser combo. Every time I've had a reboot I've been playing music or had it paused and was browsing. I'm guessing corruption in mp3 file or some kind of resource conflict between the two because i also get stuttering on the track I'm playing sometimes when doing both.
Next time I get a stutter I'll look at the cpu/ram status bar icon and see if it shoots to the top. |
Re: Reboot
My n800, like many others, would not power on after being shut down, e.g. to change battery. It had to be cooled in a fridge (freezer for some peope) before it could come back on. Would you expect this is hardware or software?
After denying the problem for a long time, Nokia released a software update that fixed it. |
Re: Reboot
ok it just happened two more times. Again it only happens when I am browsing and playing music at the same. Song will start to stutter while I'm on this website just scrolling and then it will reboot. I'm certain it is media player/browser combo. After reboot I watch the cpu status icon in the taskbar and it climbs to 90 to 100 percent. After it calms down I then click on this websites shortcut on my desktop and I see the cpu bars climb up again to 90 to 100 percent range until maemo.org is almost done loading. And then the battery seems to drain quicker than normal.
There is no percent symbol on this keyboard. |
Re: Reboot
Dont have problem with reboot so far, Well I dont install a lot of items except:
1. fbreader 2. vpnc and vpncgui 3. rdesktop 4. pidgin 5. facebook client 6. weather Well thats about it :). And I am happy with the above (for now). So far no reboot except its really drain the battery A LOTTTT.... So for now, I turn off the data plan except when I need it, otherwise within 1/2 day, my battery is gone...bad bad Nokia. So dont have any reboots problems. maybe you want to reflash your device and start installing the software one by one and see which one causing the reboots ? |
Re: Reboot
I did not have reboot probs until today. Today I installed fm radio, open vpn, open ssh client, cpu ram status widget and status bar apps. To fix it I uninstalled all except cpu/ram status on the task bar application then I turned it off took out the battery, put it back in and plugged in the charger while it was off. Now i'm not getting reboot when using browser but I think I am barely skateing by because I can see cpu usage is always 4 bars when loading web pages which means between 90 and 100 percent I think.
edit: I thought it was fixed, but it's not, I'm still getting reboots. Just got a reboot on media player. Sorry if i'm rambling. |
