The Nokia N800?
It seems like Stefan Constantinescu of Ring Nokia has gotten his hands on the new Nokia 800 Internet Tablet. We won't post images here at Interenet Tablet Talk for the mean time. Just head over there and view them.

Re: The Nokia N800?
Nice COMPUSA sticker :D

Re: The Nokia N800?
LOL. That gives us a clue when it will come out. ;)

Re: The Nokia N800?
No keyboard.
Package says it's still with google talk. Web cam coming to google talk? |
Re: The Nokia N800?
Nice find!

Re: The Nokia N800?
This thing is going to have to be mighty good for me to even consider it. The 770 is damn near perfect as it is. The only things I wish it had are a faster processor and better flash support (which necessitates a faster processor).

Re: The Nokia N800?
From the picture of the back of the box it is revealed that it will feature integrated stereo speakers. Wow, 4 whole inches of stereo seperation!

Re: The Nokia N800?
From the back of the box, here's what I read (after zooming it):

Re: The Nokia N800?
@Rocketman
You would be surprised how good speakers in the new Nokia phone of my brother are (don't remember the model now, but it is one of the lower series). If the ones on the N800 are slightly better they would allow for occasional music listening without headphones and without hurting your ears. Sure an improvement for me since I hate headphones. And if the audio out on the device is of better quality than the one on the 770 (I have some static that is annoying on mine), thats also a nice improvement and sure makes music streaming more enjoyable. But IMO the more important improvement would be in software, be it the one on the N800 and on the desktop. Hopefully Nokia won't let us down totally in that sense. The software it will offer and the price will decide for me if I upgrade from the 770 or not. Bye, tira. |

As in: this was taken in a CompUSA? Sorry if that was obvious. [First post. I've been lurking here for a while, trying to see if I wanted one of these things. I've decided I did, and I was going to wait for the new version. So I'll be here asking stupid questions soon, it looks like. Nice place. Think I'll stay a while. :p ] |
Re: The Nokia N800?
So the "prototype" was real after all :-)

Someone on engadget mention they were unboxing the same unit at Compusa for display, may have to take a drive over to my local Compusa to see if one is around. |
Re: The Nokia N800?
Adding this to the N series, stereo speakers, audio out... If they haven't bumped up the CPU and internal memory, it is apparent that Nokia is looking to position this as another multimedia gadget.
Can't see the top buttons in the pictures... |
Re: The Nokia N800?
I am going to be at the press reception on Monday and will be interviewing them Tuesday morning. Wish me luck.
Stereo speakers = welcome addition, ESPECIALLY with Canola. MiniSD = Welcome addition, since I can swap cards from my phone, tablet, and (with adapter) digital camera with ease. The moment I see one on sale, I'm plunking down my credit card. |
Re: The Nokia N800?
So, $399.99 at CompUSA probably works out at about $370-$360 direct from Nokia. With the current USD/GBP exchange rate, $399.99 works out at about £205 (but I expect it will be closer to £250).
Seems like Nokia will be pricing the new device at pretty much the same price point as the original. |
Re: The Nokia N800?
Thoughtfix - I've mentioned this a few times before, but do you think you can find out if the GPS built into the Nokia N95 phone will work with the N800? I think those two could be a great combination!
I'm almost committed to buying one, but if the CPU and/or memory situation hasn't improved at all I may delay, even not bother. I'd be very surprised/disappointed if Nokia haven't updated the CPU to at least the OMAP2410. |

Perhaps they deliver the N800 with miniSD + Adapter for compatibly with the handy stuff. Or did they really build in a miniSD slot? |
Re: The Nokia N800?
With all the hoopla of the new tablet coming out, anyone think that'll it have a newly upgraded OS2007 onboard? And if so, do we get an upgrade as well?

Getting the pics from cam to the maemo based device is the first step for a new set of applications to come: basic image manipulation, better viewers, image organising and, of course, upload to the web (flickr, blogs,...) |

When this toy will be available ?

Re: The Nokia N800?
exciting stuff! so soon after Christmas....
still wondering about protection for the screen though - paart of the reason I love the 770 is being able to slip it pocket, bag, anything without worrying about it getting damaged. the reversible covercase is a highlight of the desing for me. |
Re: The Nokia N800?
Good point about the screen cover. I don't see one in the pics.
|
Re: The Nokia N800?
Let's hope that it can be recharged via Mini-USB this time...more and more devices are starting to charge this way, and it sure makes it easier than carrying a bunch of different chargers - all I would need to carry is my retractable USB cable...
Has it been proven that it is indeed SD card, or is it the lower-cap MiniSD? If Nokia used full-size SD and made it with the new SDHC spec, we'll soon be using 8+GB cards...NICE! |

Re: The Nokia N800?
OK, this is getting silly.
So far, multiple regular people have apparently purchased the N800 from CompUSA. I called them, they know nothing...... So I just convinced the wife to go with me to a CompUSA store (one other than the one that knew nothing) to try our luck. I want it now- ...one person who has it says it chugs through youtube with video and if so, you know what that means, folks: integrated flash update and a new browser update, along with a likely boost in cpu power. here is hoping, though.... Even if it only takes the 2gig card, I can do a heck of a lot with 4+gigs.. dcarter |
Re: The Nokia N800?
found this on engadget
somebody bought friday already a N800 http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/05/n...xed/3#comments you also find a link to a pdf file of the manual too big to post here directly |
out of the manual about the memory card
Memory card
Your device has two memory card slots. There is an internal slot under the back cover and another slot under the memory card cover on the front corner of the device. Both memory cards can be inserted and removed when the device is powered (hot swap feature). The supported memory card formats are as follows: • MultiMediaCard (MMC), (full size) • Reduced Size MMC (with adapter) • SD card (full size) • miniSD card (with adapter) • microSD card (with adapter) This device does not support the write protection feature of SD cards. Use only compatible MultiMediaCards (MMC), Reduced Size MultiMediaCards, SD cards, microSD cards, or miniSD cards approved by Nokia for use with this device. Nokia uses approved industry standards for memory cards, but some brands may not be fully compatible with this device. Incompatible cards may damage the card and the device and corrupt data stored on the card. The size limit is 2 GB. You can only use FAT 16/32 formatted compatible memory cards with this device. To view and manage the contents of the memory card, tap , select File manager, and tap the memory card in the folder list. To rename a memory card, select File manager > Memory card > Rename.... To format a memory card, select File manager > Memory card > Format.... All data is permanently |
Re: The Nokia N800?
CompUSA is all fine and dandy for you folks in the US of A... what are Nokia doing about the rest of the planet? I never saw a 770 on sale in a bricks and mortar store here in the UK, so will be dependent on the ye old Nokia internet shoppe - anyone found a link yet? :)
The improved hardware specs on Thoughtfix's site have confirmed my purchasing decision - I want to buy one, NOW! :) |
Re: The Nokia N800?
what i would like to know is if bluetooth headset support will finally be available. I am all sorts of giddy about the new device and cant wait to get my grubby little mitts on one.
also, i am seeing 4 and 8 GB SD cards. will there be support for them with future releases of ITOS '07? what about the stand? is it intergrated like a fold out leg or is one incluced like the 770? i didnt get one with mine, as it was the display model, and the last one in CompUSA. |
Re: The Nokia N800?
No, not according to the manual (it is BT 2.0 though)
Maybe - one can only hope. Yes, it folds out from the rear - pic here. |
Re: The Nokia N800?
There will be internet sites selling the tablet.
None are *supposed* to be selling yet. I imagine some heads will roll over the early sales and leaks... |
Re: The Nokia N800?
I also called CompUSA and they didn't know what the hell I was talking about (per usual). Decided just to drive there and they had about five N800s stacked next to the 770 (this is in S. Calif.)
I bought it and I'm screwing around on it now. :D |
Re: The Nokia N800?
You know, there were stickers on the shipping cartons saying when to open them. Some CompUSA stores may find their allotment curtailed for jumping the gun...

Re: The Nokia N800?
N800 on Nokia Online Shop :
http://direct.nokia.com/countries.aspx?model=n800 for a moment it was possible to view and order it.. (I tried with the spanish flag) the next minute it was gone... I think the price for European countries was 499eur !!!! so.. why does it cost 499eur here, when it's $399 in the US?!? As 1eur=$1.3usd, then it should cost 310eur in Europe !!! |
Re: The Nokia N800?
Has anyone seen the actual price of the N800 online? ;)
|
Re: The Nokia N800?
Interesting. The N800 is recognizing a 4 GB SD card in both the internal and external slots. Thought 2 GB was the limit.
I also put in the 2 GB RSS-MMC card from the 770 for a total of 5.69 GB. Anyone try one of the 8 GB SD cards??? |
