I love my N900
I'm afraid this board has something of a negative tone, so I thought i'd just say how much I love my N900 :) I got it thursday and have been happily playing away since, even though the poor thing can't seem to turn off properly. Anyone else in a state of giddy nerdom when they play with their N900?

Re: I love my N900
I'm glad you like it. I've been having a great time playing with my N900 as well. It's not perfect, but none of the shortcomings I've experienced are "deal breakers" (and most are fixable with updates), and the things that are working well for me work REALLY well to the point that I can't remember how I functioned without it :)

Re: I love my N900
yeah the n900 rocks :)
I've had the SE w890, n95, HTC Diamond, Iphone 3G, SE 905... The n900 is beats all those by a mile.. yeah it's 10 times better then iphone mr. OrangeBox. I sold that one again after 2 months lol. |

I assume that you've heard about the 3GS? How about Motorola Droid/Milestone? Xperia X10? BB Storm 2? |
Re: I love my N900
the user experience isnt really much different between the 3g and 3gs

But that said, this was on 2 diff 3g networks, AT&T vs t-mobile in LA. Haven't tried it on even ground (wifi) yet. Even if the 3GS browser is faster, I'd say that's negated by the fact that you have a choice of multiple browsers on the N900, your not at the whim of Apple (or Nokia) for browser improvements. |
Re: I love my N900
erm no its not really at all..
i use my gf's 3gs all the time. not much init between my 3g. the user experience is almost identical, sometimes the 3g can get abit slowdown on larger games, whereas the 3gs can play them better all the eime , thats about it.. in terms of phone/email/gps(bar knowing direction)/txt/most apps hardly any difference worth mentioning at all. the iphone is still the top phone.. the 3g and 3gs are much more stable in comparison to the nokia n900. but the n900 is a totally different experience- it really does bring out the geek side. |
Re: I love my N900
but of course the 3gs will seem faster it DOESNT LOAD FLASH...
the reality it isnt faster, but the user experinece is faster but not as fullfilled. |
Re: I love my N900
I have indeed, my prior smartphone experiences are: Sidekick 2009, iphone 3GS, BB Bold (hated the Storm&Storm2), Palm Pre, Nokia E71,and the Motorola Droid

Re: I love my N900
Glad to hear some good news.
But I'm curious... what parts did you like best? I'm still on the edge of pulling the trigger - gotta get more money first, Christmas killed my pockets - on the N900. |
Re: I love my N900
The 3G and 3GS are two totally different beasts. It is only fair to do comparison between the 3GS and N900 (same cpus) and not the 3G and the N900 (different cpus). When mthob says that the N900 is 10x better than 3G it may be true but I can then say that 3GS is 10x better than N95.

Re: I love my N900
plz stop comparing with iphone, x10 and other phones. Its ridicules because they are different phones. No phone is best so plz stop with this s**t in every thread.
I have both n900 and 3gs and i love my latest catch: N900. |

I do not think that it's that different. And yes, I've used both as well. It's a marginally different machine with very few perks in upgrading from the 3G to 3GS. Wait... how in the hell did you take a conversation about the N900 and its positive points to your typical tirade about the iPhone!? |
Re: I love my N900
orangebox waht are you talking about..
how is the the n900 10 times better than the 3g.. and how is the 3gs 10 times better than the 3g you are off your mind.. in specs they are not and in terms of user experience- nothing really init bar slightly faster(3g to 3gs) and both iphones are much more stable than the n900- and both do many jobs much better than the n900.. serioulsy i think you have no idea about these phones - its like you just read stuff and quote it- you obvioulsy havent used these phones extensivly at all.. (to add i do love my n900 10 times more than my 3g-- but i cant get rid of my iphone as it does to much so well when i am out and about) |

Re: I love my N900
you compared the 3gs to the n900 , then you said that the n900 could be 10 times better than the 3g..
its as simple as that. the 3g is almost exactly the same in terms of user experience to the the 3gs.. the ipones are stable phones that do much more very well, the n900 is a little computer, that has potential. |

The 3GS legitimately seemed to render faster, there are many reasons for this. Webkit is faster in general than Gecko in my experience (but less compatible) Nothing can run in the background really on the iPhone, when you're using the browser, you're using the browser, and thats it. (I wasn't running any background apps at the time, but may have had some daemons/processes in the background) JIT compilation of javascript is not yet enabled in microB (it can be, but I didn't for this test), but I think it may be for iPhone Safari. That said, this was not a comprehensive test in anyway, just two geeks comparing the utility of their phones. |
Re: I love my N900
Another attempt at a positive thread gone to iPhone hell...

Re: I love my N900
the ipnohe 3gs may be faster , but not in terms that is going to effect the usability of the two devices..
i believe the 3gs is faster- not neccesirally to do with multitasking etc, but more to do with the safari browser being more effecient.. no reason wny future browsers wont add speed, even though its an almost immaterial test.. i am just stating facts- i am also a massive iphone fan- i dont buy into the love or the hate(based on branding like so many do)- i am happy to mention each others pluses and flaws. |

People the N900 is a great phone but it's not the best. There's no need to elevate it to mythical heights. Get over the joy. You'll only use it for common daily tasks. It will become just another TOOL. |
Re: I love my N900
orange you seem to believe that the 3gs is a completly different machine to the 3g when it isnt- just tell me how- because the extra bit of speed is hardly any diffenet to the user experience at all.

Re: I love my N900
God forbid anyone just love their damn device because they love it.
It has to be a competition and comparison war between everyone and their dog. Thanks to the OP for trying to start something positive. As for the rest of the thread.... Ugh. |
Re: I love my N900
Love my N900 two, aside from the rather big and heavy case, and batterylife it is the IMHO the best mobile device to date :).
|
Re: I love my N900
hahaha Orange your posts always make me lulz :)
Yes I too Love my N900. And its the best DEVICE to date :) ( I have to call it a device since you love comparing my mobile computer to mobile phones ;) ) |
Re: I love my N900
I think you'll find that those that love the n900 are just too busy having fun tinkering with it to post threads evangelizing the device.
It's not for everyone, I only recommend it to my friends if they have any familiarity of linux. It's truly a computer first and phone second. That said, I do enjoy showing iPhone users my phone running more than one app at a time, or playing some random flash video. But that's due more a hatred for the iPhone/Closed Platforms than any Nokia-specific fanboyism on my part. The iPhone is a decent piece of hardware with a solid OS, and great UI that's been crippled by suits. The n900 is a good piece of hardware with a solid OS and decent UI that's yet to realize it's full potential, crippled (for beginner/intermediate users) by it's relatively recent release date and small install base. |

Re: I love my N900
the user experience is not 50% faster..
the different cpu archetecture has no bearing on the usability either. |
Re: I love my N900
It makes me wish I had mod powers over my own thread. Then things would be different ;) Seriously though there's plenty of room for constructive debate, I just don't like these "lol mai iphone has moar apps than ur phone lulz" pissing matches.

Re: I love my N900
i will try to explain to you what 'user experience' means in practise.
when i tap on my iponhe 3g emial- i tap on it instantly it brings up my mails, and i can instantly view them..when i do this on a 3gs same thing happens when i open up my ipod/phone/browser/simple or medium drain app etc samething happens. on the other hand when i open my gps - the iphone 3gs has a sensor that tells me which way i am going, when i open a draining game the 3gs plays it better, when i open the camera the 3gs has focus. these are user experiences- based on practise.. not that it has a different cpu archeticture.. |

Oh to get back on track... I too love my n900 and I don't find it to have many shortcommings that is too much of a biggie. Lack of MMS and CBR reader are the biggest and at least one of them is in extras-devel ;) |
Re: I love my N900
I believe 'iphone' is a special level of hell, quite apart from the usual seven... where little demons force you to use fart apps and poke you with stylii you can never use...
|
Re: I love my N900
omg buronage that is so obvious he hasnt actually used these phones he thinks that data sheets equal user experience-lol- why am i even bothering to talk to him
|
Re: I love my N900
I think it can be safely said that in this thread OrangePox is trolling.
Bummer for the OP. No good review goes unpunished. |
Re: I love my N900
People you are way ahead of me. I never loved a device before. Please tell me about it. Is it similar to loving a wife? A girlfriend? A son? How is the bedroom experience?
Wake up: it is a device. If you feelings toward a device is more the "i like it very much" then a visit to a shrink is in order. |
