N900 on Vodafone in the UK
I was thinking about getting the N900 seeing as it has just come to the UK. However, the only mobile carrier at the moment is Vodafone. I really needed to get a new phone as mine is on it's last legs.
Has anyone had any experiences with using mobile internet with Vodafone? Is it any good? What are the speeds like? Are they generally a good company or not? Thanks. |
Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
i run my N900 on Voda and it's great, never have problem with service (london) and 3.5g data transfer is very good
My other half has O2 and data there, for London atleast, is problematic |
Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
I'm on O2 at the moment and connection seems quite slow when trying to connect with the internet. Do you find that Vodafone is a lot faster at connecting than O2?

Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
Vodaphone has really good coverage in England - Ive been with them for 4 years now, but the contracts they offer with the n900 have really put me off: Ive decided to buy the device unlocked and then go for T-Mobile who offer 800min/UNLMTD Msgs & Internet (fair usage 1gb > Vodaphone is 500mb (all per month)) for only 20pounds per month for 12months!
I cannot loose the feeling but I think Vodaphone isnt the best provider for internet on your mobile device in terms of pricing and contract offers. Do some research and find the option that works for you - thats what I did. Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
I'd love to buy then phone straight up, but I just don't have £500 to spend on the phone right now. A contract would be great. I did think that 500mb was a little bit low. I asked them and this was only a guideline but I don't want them pestering me if I go over, which I might do sometimes.

Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
i have it on contract with vodaphone- its good in london(all over)and surrey, and it was fine in bucks when i was there yesterday.
getting alot of 3.5 g speeds |
Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
btw what do you mean about 500mbs
its unlimited web its like 30 quid a month contract, phone free |
Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
btw if you want to buy the phone- dont go with t mobile.. go with o2
700 mins messages and unlimited internet for 20 quid a month-AND ONLY 30 day contract NOT 12 MONTHS- o2 is much better than t mobile around london- but then it does depend on where you live i suppose.. on the other hand you get the same with vodaphone for 30 a month but 24 month contract-- but if the think about it thats only paying 240 quid for a 440 quid phone.. |
Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
I vaguely remember someone mentioning that they couldn't connect to Skype via a Vodafone bought N900. I would expect this for 3G (and with their data cap there wouldn't be much point), but does this effect using Skype with Wifi as well, as that is one of the (many) features that has attracted me to this device. Also, is there any addition Vodafone bloatware or restrictions in comparison to the unlocked model?

Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
no never been stung on any fair usage scheme- and gone over by 4 times-infact once probally 20 times
skype works fine on vodaphone as well |
Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
and no bloatware
|
Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
by the sounds of vodas and infact any other providers 'fair usage'
they dont charge you if you go over. they can however ask you to go up a price plan, or they can ask you to not use it as much(lol!!!!).. but to be honest in that case it would surely be very easy to get out of your contract |

I've just seen a similar deal for O2, but there was no notion whether it includes internet? I live in London and am still on Vodaphone, will change soon though. The T-Mobile Website shows me outstanding coverage for London? I believe their coverage (same for Vodaphone a few years back) has improved vastly over the last few years, therefore as long as you live in a fairly urban environment you should be fine with most big names. No doubts there. Quote:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ADDITION: The cheaper the monthly rate the less impressive your monthly covered allowances will be. You will end up with a kick *** phone but a limited contract which doesnt allow you to fully enjoy your n900. And that for 2 years  Keep that in mind :) Ive seen quite a few deals offering the handset for free on 20-35/month but only giving you something like 75min/monthly calls for instance. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
i can assure you that for 15 pounds o2 doesnt have web, and for 20 pounds it does have web
fair usage is hit and miss- in fact its just rubbish- no one i know has ever been stung on it.. i had a voda contract for a year and some months was downloading 5gigs worth and never got asked to limit my usage.. when you say its not an option to have a 24 month contract thats fine- i understand- but you have to rember that in this case you can save 200 quid by doing - therefore you can buy your new toy anyway.... not a problem on ly problem would be switching networks- not buying a new toy |
Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
i hate t mobile - i live in a leafy part of surrey , but work in london mostly- o2 is best - vodaphone is second- t mobile just doesnt work for me- so its never an option

I am aware of that fact that essentially I am loosing money here but on the other side committing to a provider for 2 years is really putting me off. |
Re: N900 on Vodafone in the UK
its a joke i hate this 2 year contract stuff
i did explain why i hate t mobile- i cant use it at home!!- its not really hate , its the fact i cant use it!! |
