Unable to Uninstall Pidgin Protocols
Hello Everyone, I am a new owner of the Nokia N900 and so far I am very pleased with the device. While snooping around the repositories I came across a few pidgin protocols that add aim to the im chat function. After using it for a bit I realized that that it is not tuned enough for me to keep installed so I tried to uninstall it. Unfortunately, when attempting to uninstall the Pidgin protocols using the uninstall function in application manager it gave me the error "Unable to Uninstall. Some application packages are needed by other applications." Is there another method to uninstall this protocol? Thanks in advance.

Re: Uninstall Pidgin Protocols
If you get the message that the plugin ist still needed by another... and then open "details" - isnīt there shown WHICH other app needs the plugin you are trying to uninstall?

Re: Uninstall Pidgin Protocols
gainroot then run apt-get -f install
after that you will see list of things and command to clean it up (apt-get autoremove) run it and it all left overs should be gone now |
Re: Uninstall Pidgin Protocols
having this issue uninstalling the pidgin extra protocols (bonjour and sametime). it says that it is required by the app: pidgin sametime support (2.6.3-3nix1). and i dont see that anywhere to uninstall.
i tried the apt-get after gaining root and all i get is " E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable) E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?" so is there some other way to get rid of that app? i swear its laughing at me and i would love to deleet it in the face! any help would be awesome! |
Re: Uninstall Pidgin Protocols
did you reboot n900 and try again?
you got rootsh installed? sudo gainroot apt-get -f install apt-get autoremove this worked for me every time |
Re: Uninstall Pidgin Protocols
yep yep and more yep.
so far nothing has worked. following those apt-get commands i get something about another process is using something. any ideas. |
Re: Uninstall Pidgin Protocols
you have to close the program manager before you can use apt-get.
Otherwise you get this message: E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable) E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?" |
Re: Uninstall Pidgin Protocols
Exit the app manager before attempting the console commands!
