Which handset to Buy ? Nokia N900 or HTC HD2?
Fully Confused !!! When i thinks about N900 it shows me High Internal memory, 16 M colors, Qwerty key bord etc but still it has no good apps as yet like Google maps and it dose not have capacitive screen but its ok i can deal with Resistive one but Google Apps  . Then I think about HD2 it shows me it's nice large Capacitive screen more then 4". Its Sence, But it dose not have 16M colors and second bad thing its Winmo, not good memory Putting memory card is a trouble as after a time memory cards gets crupt and destroy all data on them. Now What to do ???
I always stops on N900 but Will there be fine apps for nokia n900? will google make its apps for this fone ? if it happes then when will it be ? Should i spend my money on N900? |

Maybe ask Micro$oft instead...? :) Seriously, for ME there's no other device I'd rather have but that doesn't mean it's the right choice for You... :) If You know someone whos has an N900 try it out... Same goes for the HD2... ;) I doubt Google will make apps for Maemo since it's a competitor to Android... |
Re: Which handset to Buy ? Nokia N900 or HTC HD2?
Hmmm,
as you can see, people are working on various apps for N900. But even, when they will be available, you will not have PROBABLY some features like MMS (maybe you're using them often now...). The truth is that N900 is "step 4 of 5" and you can have some issues at least in next few months. From the other hand: Win Mobile 6.5 (HTC HD2) is still Win Mobile with some disadvantages (Win Mobile 7 is expected to be released in the end of 2010). Maybe you should think about some Android device then ? There are few nice models already and HTC should have few killer models in next few months :D All very Google related. If not, you have only iPhone with own issues (closed OS or breaking it with each next release) or maybe Omnia HD/N97 with Symbian. I'm afraid, that you should check each one and select device, which is the best in YOUR opinion. Or wait at least few months ;) |
Re: Which handset to Buy ? Nokia N900 or HTC HD2?
I had this decision too.(Let me tell you from the heart) it all comes down to personal taste. I've had them all... if u want something fresh
this may be your best bet. 1.What you want 2.Yup 3.I hope at least Google Maps (thats my prayer) 4.That unknown (they haven't been any announcements) 5.The N900 is cheaper with out a plan hope i helped |
Re: Which handset to Buy ? Nokia N900 or HTC HD2?
N900 has farly superior Operation System. I'd like to see a person who would volenterily use Windows and Internet Explorer on their phone. There are not that many applications for Maemo 5, but there will be probably a larger amount in the future.

The resistive display is really good actually. No multitouch, but for me it is nice to be able to use stulys etc. Especially when surfing the web, you can really take advantage of the high resolution and accuracy to hit those links. I hate the zooming/unzooming on other phones.
I think we will get more options for the maps after OVI store opens and Nokia will probably develop the OVI maps further too in the coming months. N900 is still clearly a work in progress, so you would have to deal with that. On the other hand it is most definitely the platform with most potential at the moment. If you are a real Google fan you could also wait for the Nexus One. I would think they will try to provide best possible integration to Google apps. |
Re: Which handset to Buy ? Nokia N900 or HTC HD2?
I don't know which google apps are available for android devices. But you can use all google apps that are available on the internet. Ok, google maps is quite hard to use, but all others work very well for me (googe docs/mail for example) on the N900.
Btw. I think google has now the same status as Microsoft, people can't live without it ^^;. |
Re: Which handset to Buy ? Nokia N900 or HTC HD2?
i would go with the hd2 as its os is more refined than the n900 but thats my choice.
as others have said, its mostly personal taste. i like windows mobile because it has a lot of software already, easier to install programs, and you can install customs roms. i think the n900 will have a steeper learning curve if you have never delved into maemo/linux before. |
Re: Which handset to Buy ? Nokia N900 or HTC HD2?
u sound chaotic. go for hd2. less to break.

For me, I think the n900 is still a great phone. Like you said it's has 32gb built in, great resolution, open source, and has a lot of potential. I mainly use it for internet, RSS feeds, calendar, and email and it executes all those things perfectly for me. But i'm not going to tell you to buy a n900 just because we're in the maemo forums, you should definately check out the google nexus one check this link out of the google nexus one |

The Maemo web browser is probably the only mobile web browser that DOES run actual Google Apps. I would be highly surprised if it doesn' run real Gmail, real Google Docs, real Google Maps. Not some watered down and cooked local apps that give you a FEW of the features of an actual Google app. Even Android doesn't run the real Google apps, but finger-friendly versions of the mobile apps, or local low-feature versions of Google apps. That's what you ought to ask, over in the general forum: Does the N900 run real Google Apps. Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Maps, etc. |
Re: Which handset to Buy ? Nokia N900 or HTC HD2?
HW wise HD2 is great with some problems like really bad speakers and the camera falls short with the recording and pics compared to N900. Screen does look great even with 65k colors.
To me the WM even with HTC trying it best with it is just horrible. Maybe one other option would be to wait for HTC Dragon and Nexus or maybe even SE X10 that are all running Android(X10 will start with customized Android 1.6 other at least Android 2.0). EDIT: If you are living in states it's good to remember that it will only support Tmobile 3G over there. |
Re: Which handset to Buy ? Nokia N900 or HTC HD2?
As a phone, the HTC will serve you better than th N900.
As an Internet browser, the N900 will serve you better than the HTC. OTOH, for apps, the iPhone 3GS will serve you better and for Google integration, the Droid or Nexus will serve you better. It all depends on your needs. From what you wrote, in the US, today, I would say you would be most pleased by the Droid. With the HTC, I would really be worried about the MS announcement that WinMo 7 is going to be delayed for a year. |

The Nexus One is only the best choice if you don't want/need a keyboard. If you want/need a keyboard, and you're not tied to a particular carrier (or you ARE tied to T-Mobile), then the best Android device is still the original one: The G1. There is still not a worthy successor. |

I really don't know why a vast majority of the tech enthusiasts hate M$ but still love Google, but I guess this is slowly changing. My personal philosophy is to avoid both as much as possible, but I've to admit that it's sometimes really hard to resist from using some of Google's services. ;) However, if anyone wants the best Google experience, then they're probably looking for the N1. Aside from phone experience, the N900 can actually work with more Google web applications than any other Android phone. :) |

And, if they're general "for profit" corporations, then they ALL have "Make money" as a mandatory goal (due to it being a fiduciary responsibility to their stock holders). And THAT is the root of all corporate evil, because at some point, they all have to make the choice between "do what we intended to do" and "do what we owe to our stock holders". Guess which one ALWAYS wins? Quote:
