coreutils and ghostscript
 

I'd like to install coreutils, but AM says that is incompatible with busybox. I've tried to erase busybox, but not possible, because a lot of fundamental apps depend on busybox. ???

Besides.... I'd like to install GhostScript (just to view ps files). But I haven't found it yet at repositories.

Yes lots of sytem files depend on busybox is part of the system... Most system utilities are from busybox.
You can dual boot and customize your image.

Could you explain that please? I know there's a utility to dual boot, but not used yet. Does it mean that I would have an alternative system in my MMC?

Anycase, is there a way to install applications on the MMC? I ask this because I can hardly install anything more in the flash rom.

You can create a swap file and extend your internal memory to you external mmc. in OS2006 you can do that by going to Control Panel-Memory-Virtual.

Thank you very much. I just did that, but not enough. I've installed about sixty something megas, and there's no place for anything more. I've a got a giga-rsmmc, but I can extend only 64MB. I suppose there's no solution for that. Am I right?

Anycase, what about gsview? Could you tell me something about this utility? Is it available for the 770?

Actually yes if you need more space you can create your own swap.

I am not sure but I dont think anybody has ported any utilities or the capability to print in the 770.

You don't understand the concept of swap space and virtual memory.

It extends the system RAM not the filespace. Adding a swapfile will not allow you to install more applications. It will, though, allow you to have more apps running at the same time.

That's not necessarily true, if you move swap space from internal memory to external memory you'll have more space to add applications since you are no longer using the internal memory for swap.

The system's (optional) swap file is always on external memory (i.e.: a card). AFAIK, the 770/800 does not allow one (at least not without major, and unnecessary, tinkering) to install a swap file on the internal storage, which is only 64MB anyway.

Secondly, putting a swap file on internal flash storage is a recipe for disaster: the increased read/write of a is not very healthy for flash chips, and if a memory card wears out, you can at least chuck it and buy a new one. Guess what happens if your internal flash fails...

That is True BanditRider thats what swap is intended for. Is not that I didnt know the concept I got thrown out of the way for a second. some times I just dont think specially when is late. I stand corrected.

The ability to print in AbiWord was not disabled in my port, but since there is no CUPS port for the 770, it won't work.

If there is interest in printing from AbiWord, start a thread in Developers and I'll give it a shot ;)

Speaking of which... where do we stand with Abiword? I was under the impression that more fine-tuning was both required and in process. Although I am using it now, any improvement and further ease of use would be welcome.
