[Maemo 5] Blackberry Messenger on Maemo?
Could it be possible to create BBM on the Nokia N900?
considering: On symbian devices, you can get Blackberry Connect with all the email stuff but without BBM... You have to enable BB service on your sim card... Since you have to enable blackberry service doesn't this entitle you to a BB Pin? edit: the pin is attributed to the phone So theoretically shouldn't we be able to create a BBM application to chat with others people that have Blackberrys if you enable BB service? (the same concept applies to symbian devices) What do you think? On a side note, I really think that Nokia should do an alliance with Blackberry just for BBM.. This will surely help Nokia perform better in general since their sales are beginning to decrease (especially vs. the iphone for example) |

Re: Blackberry messenger on Maemo
maybe something like ping for iphone, but i guess thats like ovi chat right ?

Re: Blackberry messenger on Maemo
Being that the PIN is attributed to the phone, and considering they are all unique, and they only use DBACEF1-9 I'm pretty sure they want to keep them to their selves before they run out, they only have 2,562,890,625 PIN's available to them, with them already shipping ~40,000,000 devices per year they only have enough PINs for 64 years!

Re: [Maemo 5] Blackberry Messenger on Maemo?
Hmm, what if I have a BB and PIN, but I would like to use the messenger on my n900 :) Would that be possible? And are Blackberry Services required for BBM to run? As I rather have unlimited internet and connect via different APs than the BB ones..

Re: [Maemo 5] Blackberry Messenger on Maemo?
I got BBM on my n900 sort of
I installed Impatica viaDock on my desktop so i can control my bb from my pc. i installed vnc on my desktop. so i can take control of my desktop with my n900. thats the closest i got to get bbm on my n900 lol.. it would be a lot nicer if there was vnc server for blackberries . or even better if there was an app that makes u directly connect to the blackberry and also get incoming notifications. |
Re: [Maemo 5] Blackberry Messenger on Maemo?
so if a BB Pin is exclusive to each BB phone ... what if I BUY a BB ? then the Pin is basically Mine... which means I can use that Pin for an app ..

Re: [Maemo 5] Blackberry Messenger on Maemo?
I don't think RIM wants to license out bb messenger to any of the competing platforms at this point. It has become their unique selling point and a lock-in mechanism for their current non-enterprise users.

Re: [Maemo 5] Blackberry Messenger on Maemo?
what about hackers working on N900? Seems to me that all you need is a PIN and N900 can make use of BBM by an application..

Re: [Maemo 5] Blackberry Messenger on Maemo?
Hello
So, if you have a BlackBerry unit and therefore its PIN, would it be theoretically possible to connect to a BBM with an application (an emulator?) that would use that PIN and make believe the BBM server that the connecting device is a BB unit? Thanks a lot. |
Re: [Maemo 5] Blackberry Messenger on Maemo?
Dont count on it
Source: Link RIM Vice President Pete Devenyi had this to say on the subject: BlackBerry is and will continue to be dominant in most corporations, [but] it's not going to be the only device given the fact that consumers have the choice to bring in their own devices and IT departments are often letting them in. So there's a question there. Do those corporations have to manage those devices differently or is there the possibility that RIM might extend capabilities to make it easier for those corporations to manage those devices as well? ... If the right thing to do is to extend a subset of those [BlackBerry] capabilities to be able to manage other devices, it's worthy of a conversation Quote:
