Ringtones for Nokia N900

The Ovi store is not available for this device. How can I get ringtones for the Nokia N900?

You... make the ringtones, or leech them off sites that have them.

Did you RTFM?

Pc Suite
MMC
SFTP

Lots of ways to do it.

This is not what you're likely used to, with everything being catered to your phone needs (like say, ringtones), via a website where you can just go to and automagically install ringtones.

Why do you have to attack the poor guy? Seriously, any time someone asks a question on here they are attacked and hailed as iphone users. What is wrong with you people - we're talking about phones here - everyone calm down.

OP: easiest way, for now, is to make your own ringtone. Try this site: http://makeownringtone.com/

Or download a program like Audacity or Reaper - it's fun to learn to use an audio editor.

Oh, I'm not "atacking" the poor guy. I'm giving him some ideas of where he should look to learn on how to do what he's looking for. Feed a man for a day kinda thing. Too often nowadays, people just expect answers to be handed to them on a platter, with little to no effort on their part.

Everybody wants to be cool, but no one wants to learn how to get there.

If I were to attack him, I'd have said something like:

Quote:

You idiot! This isn't an iPhone where you can just sync ringtones through iTunes! WTF are you doing posting such a dumb question?
Instead, I pointed him to some terms he should learn, and by extension, how to use them.

Got it?

Progam called wavepad. One thing I missed about my touch pro 2 is the mp3 trimmer make ringtones right from your phone with any song you got on your device or memory card. Anybody working on such a program?

one thing that bugs me is that I can only have one imported ringtone in the list of tones... is there a way to change this?

You can put MP3 ringtones in the /home/user/MyDocs/.sounds directory to have them show as system sounds

and

aac/mp3 files in

/home/user/MyDocs/.sounds/Ringtones

to have them show as ringtones.

Are you a Mac user? If so, use Garageband to make your ringtones. Works a treat!

Hey there op, I'm with you. Some of us like to drive our cars more than spend all our time tinkering under the hood. But of course we'd be nowhere without the tinkerers so thanks to all who do like to get their hands dirty playing with code!

Try this site for tones/wallpapers http://www.zedge.net/

Only difference is, the people who "tinker" under the hood of your car get paid for it. ;)

True. But are the tech-types coding all those cool apps for money or glory? Either way, I fully appreciate the effort involved in getting something out there for us to use.

I admit I'd like to get way more knowledgeable about how this thing works but til then, I'm glad I can download apps that let me use it's talents both productively and frivolously.

Long term though, if no good apps become readily available to the less tech-savvy masses (i.e. me etc), the N900 would be much less attractive to us plug and play types, thereby reducing its commercial viability for Nokia.

The iphone (the Paris Hilton of technology) would be nowhere without its apps. They are the only reason to get one imho. Which shows there is a market for the N900 and the great apps being developed for it.

But in the meantime (and with respect to all), I hope this community doesn't alienate us non-coders by making us feel like idiots every time we ask questions like the op did.

P.S. Btw ToG, how are you with fuel injection systems and do you live anywhere near Sydney...? :)

I have tried exactly that but the files dont show up in the list of available tones. I have to add tones manually but only one added tone is showing in the list.

Re: Ringtones for Nokia N900

If you are going to put mp3's into the .sounds/ringtones folder I believe they need to be converted to aac format for automatic listing and usability when changing settings for ring tone. I put a mp3 file in there and it gave an error when selecting it in the list. You can also click on the add button and use any mp3 that you might have in your music library on the phone.

Not familiar with the bug, but I have just 1 custom ring tone right now and its a .M4A container with a AAC file inside and it sounds perfect to me. I put it in the sounds folder and imported it as a ringtone in the ring tone selection menu in the phone.

Well, that's because they don't know how to give it back....they do that to me, it is on. People who attack others are people who feel less than others, they are depressed and they hate life, therefore they have to attack others to feel less misserable about themselfs. You have a point, I have noticed that if someone here ask a question they are treated disrespectfully, but hey, that tells a lot about the attacker, doesn't it...!!!

My two cents

I´ve tried to convert MP3 files to aac and put them in /home/user/MyDocs/.sounds/ringtones folder.

BUT they still dont show up in the list of ringtones. If I use the "import" option it is selectable, but I can still only have ONE personal ringtone in the list of ringtones.

I've used this site before, they have more than just ring tones and it's all free:
http://www.zedge.net/
Here's the n900 page:
http://www.zedge.net/phone-index/2-3...ia/nokia-n900/

I haven't got my n900 yet, but I'm sure it should all work.

edit I should note that some of the ring tones and wallpaper images might not be SFW:)

If someone asks a question like this you can guess that he/she is not one of the "tinkering under the hood" people. So please be nice and explain to them what you already know for years in a way they do not get offended.

For the OP: There are several ways to get ringtones to your phone!
You can browse to a ringtone website and download them directly, you safe them to a place like "Audio Files>Ringtones>Your Folder" and in any alarm or ringtone context menu you can use the more button to browse to that file.

Another way is to use tools like audacity (or the website stated above) to make your own ringtones of music you have stored on your computer.

I used espeak to make my own files directly on the phone, it now tells with a some kind of robotic voice "New SMS" and "New Email".

For audacity and espeak you will find howTos and descriptions in the net and on the project websites thereselves.
