Ofono and N900
I've written up some quick and dirty docs on using ofono with your N900:
http://wiki.maemo.org/User:Jebba/Ofono It works, but you'll need to carry around a laptop with you if you want to make calls. ;) |
Re: Ofono and N900
Thanks for this. Have you looked into whether ofono can be built with scratchbox to run on the device itself?

Re: Ofono and N900
So what does ofono do? Wrap AT commands to send to the modem device?
The question is really, what does Nokia use, and can we hook into that rather than needing to install more sw, etc. Subtle hint to any Nokians listening, we should really be able to write our own phone apps, or at least wrap the provided functionality. BTW well done, nice to see this info :) |
Re: Ofono and N900
I can't help thinking that some combination of pnatd and socat could help run the whole thing on the device.

Re: Ofono and N900
This is now working *directly on the device* so you don't need to carry your laptop around to make calls! :)

Re: Ofono and N900
I just saw this thread on the mailing lists... <jaw drops>
Congratulations all! The telephony stack was the biggest thing in my mind standing between us and alternative OSes booting on the N900... |
Re: Ofono and N900
I cant find it on the extras, nor extras-devel repository. Is it still available?
|
Re: Ofono and N900
I see it in extras-devel. It probably isn't installable with HAM, so you have to use apt-get.

I'm trying to compile it with scratchbox in order to get the gatchat program to be run on the n900. When listing the interfaces available for the n900 modem the data connection interface is not available :( and I would like to try with the at command directly to see if it works. TA |
Re: Ofono and N900
isimodem is the native driver for the N900.
|
Re: Ofono and N900
So there is no way of using AT commands over it?
And is it possible to enable any other Interfaces? or they are not enabled because they are not available throught the isimodem - Phonet? Thanks for you help. |
Re: Ofono and N900
Some progress on that?
|
Re: Ofono and N900
I have to check it again because I have been quite busy with other issues but it seems it is possible to make it.
The command "pnatd" enables sending AT commands. It opens a serial port (I think it is a pts master/slave model). Then you can use this interface through any program to get/set thinks on the modem. The AT commands set is defined by the 3GPP TS 27.005 and 27.007 specs, if I remember correctly. Please keep us informed of any progress. I will try to do the same ;) |
Re: Ofono and N900
It seems that meego n900 preview has ofono inside, and I saw a lot of commit on ofono related to the n900 modem, so it seems things are moving in that direction.

Re: Ofono and N900
AFAIK, ofono will not work on N900 because dbus version 1.2 doesn't support file descriptors in method calls. So, you need to have dbus >=1.3 running on N900 in order to have ofono working.
|
Re: Ofono and N900
bump, what's the latest?
|
Re: Ofono and N900
Maybe it's a good time to upgrade dbus in CSSU in order to allow ofono development.
|
Re: Ofono and N900
anyone made any progress in this area yet?
