iNES, VGB, VGBA Now in Extras-Testing

Hello, All!

I have reuploaded three of my emulators, iNES, VGB, and VGBA, to Maemo5 Extras-Testing. These are the latest versions with a few more bugfixes not present in the earlier versions. Now, in order to get these programs into proper Maemo5 Extras, you have to vote for them.

Please, vote here:
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in.../ines/3.6.9-2/
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...l/vgb/3.5.6-2/
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in.../vgba/3.6.8-2/

PS: I also uploaded Maemo4 versions to Diablo Extras. Should appear there shortly.

I think the new install has reset the directory he used last in VGBA, and now he is lost.

when it opens up file directory when you choose rom, click the arrow at top left and try configure your path to roms

I had that problem too! I'm assuming you were using a rom with an uppercase file extension like blablabla.GBA

change the uppercase extension to *.gba and you are good to go!

sweet, thanks for the update. however is there a proper way of saving game status? i have to freeze state to keep my progress since norma save doesn't work, unless i'm doing it wrong which is probably the case =)

Re: iNES, VGB, VGBA Now in Extras-Testing

i updated vgba n now it doesn't recognize the rom files i had on my n900. i tried to reboot the device but it didn't help.
the previous version saved the games, but after some time, it stopped recognizing the .sav files n had to start the games from the beginning :(

Re: iNES, VGB, VGBA Now in Extras-Testing

i found a way to open the file. selected the rom from file manager and chose vgba as the application to open it.
this new version runs much faster. on the previous one, a 4-minute half in fifa 2007 was much more than 4 minutes. good job. thanks.

Re: iNES, VGB, VGBA Now in Extras-Testing

file manager seems to be the only way to list the roms with vgba. This is actually better then using the built in directory list as it only updates once and not every time you want to play a new rom. Just associate a gba rom with the vgba and your good to go.

btw, what bugs did this update fix? Shining Force gba still wont play properly(wont let charecter move left or right) and still no option to customise keys.

Ines seems to run faster now tho (at least i think!) super mario 3 seems to run full speed finally on the n810. Sound still stutters like mad but the speed has improved as far as i can tell.

Good job to the author on updating these applications for us!

Re: iNES, VGB, VGBA Now in Extras-Testing

I have a question. Is there a way to clear all keys except the ones that you choose using maemo settings. I am trying to use movement keys like this
WER
SDF
XCV

D should = not used

Where W would be up left. E would equal Up. and so on. But the D key on the keyboard is mapped as a button. I would like to know if there is a way for me to unmap it.

Re: iNES, VGB, VGBA Now in Extras-Testing

is there a way to fix the saving problem for vgba? does anyone know how?

fms 2010-01-07 07:23

Re: iNES, VGB, VGBA Now in Extras-Testing

Note:
You are using a Linux device, it knows the difference between lower and upper case filenames. Your files must have .gba, .gb, .gbc, .nes, or .fds extensions in lower case.

PS: Things like .gba.gz are also ok.

There are public domain, homebrew ROMs at http://www.pdroms.de/.

The discussion of how and where to acquire copyrighted ROMs is not permitted in this forum.

Re: iNES, VGB, VGBA Now in Extras-Testing

These emus often don't close properly for me. They hang and become unresponsive until I either kill it or it gives me the "x app has become unresponsive.." message and I kill it that way. I haven't used them much because of the southpaw keyboard layout, but if anyone else has this issue I can do some more thorough testing.

Re: iNES, VGB, VGBA Now in Extras-Testing

They seem to have made it into extras since I'm now getting an update alert for them with extras-testing disabled.

Can we take it from this that the whole Nintendo unpleasantness was successfully resolved?

i updated ines and vgba. It seems that ines doesn't have full screen option anymore (ctrl + enter). Vgba works great, now that i can configure buttons the way i like, this emulator is perfect! Thank you very much for this update :)

Any tips how to get ines fullscreen?

Haven't tried it yet, but Ctrl+Enter worked on GameGear - does it work here?

I too would like to know the backstory on why these disapeared. Also any word on when we might be seeing iSNES back?

You are probably running the Media Player. Stop the Media Player playback, and the emulators will close instantly. This is a bug in the Maemo5 PulseAudio implementation. It has nothing to do with the emulators themselves.

Yes, thats the one...but Ctrl + Enter gives you 4:3 screen (not full screen in N900). Before update the full screen was 16:9.

Did the original NES have 16:9 screen?

I am still wondering if there is a way to make it so only the keys that you map do something.

it did not look bad at all in fullscreen (the older version). And if you didn't like it, just pressed ctrl + Enter and you got letterbox view back. Now there is only letterbox option. Would be great if next update brings fullscreen mode option back.

is there a way to do frameskip? i love pokemon but too much talking. same story line. thanks for the great update. it looks a lot better now with the maemo setting.

Re: iNES, VGB, VGBA Now in Extras-Testing

Fullscreen is possible, if you enable the virtual on-screen keyboard and hit "F6"- key.

But now you can't hide the keyboard. :(

An option to mapp the keyboard to a hardware-button would be nice. :)
