for me:
potriat throughout
video recording iproved to 30fps rather than 25...
i do believe the n900 has auto video focus....which can make
certain videos blurred a bit....id rather if this was removed....

For me, Portrait mode is a must. Also de Ovi Maps 3 port, and maybe a way to create shortctus with the camera and volume keys

What i want to be added to my n900:
A possibility to disable automatic add of email address in my contacts for everyone where i manually type in a email address. it pop-up in my contacts as "someone@emaildomain.com" very anoying feature! it poluts my contacts.

Second i wand a portrait mode for applications.

I miss the possibility to add additional packet connections (with different APN's). Our company has an own APN to connect direct into the company network. But this connections than should be excluded from the autoconnect.

Configurable application menue with subfolders.

Remote control.

Re: What Would you like Added to the N900

This crossed my mind: would it not be nice to mis use the ir/da port as a universal remote, like the expensive logitec ones?

Re: What Would you like Added to the N900

First of all, if you write a post like this, chances are that nobody from Nokia will see it. If you have concrete, specific suggestions, then the Maemo Community Brainstorm site is the place to go.
Please pay attention to the emphasized words above - anything else just pollutes the list.
Examples:
Good:
- Add an Equalizer to the Media Player (concrete and possible)
- Add option to disable automatic addition of contacts (use-cases help)
Bad:
- Fix all bugs (Not possible - everything has bugs. If a specific one annoys you, then file a report at bugs.maemo.org (after first checking to make sure it hasn't been filed already))
- Better icons (Subjective and not concrete)

Also realize that programming and design work is a lot more complicated and time-consuming than you might think if you haven't done it, and often there are technical constraints. Thus, things like "increase frame rate of video capture" is probably either not possible, or was done for a good reason. Things like "add portrait mode for all apps" fall in the bad category too - good user interface design isn't easy, and trying to make an app useful in portrait mode as well as landscape isn't always possible or practical. If an app has a strong use-case for portrait mode, then the developer might look into it, but it's not as simple as just "enabling" the feature -- e.g. it should be technically possible to manually rotate the screen, but if the app isn't set up for it, it will probably just break the interface.
Feel free to make suggestions, but please keep this in mind, and -- especially -- if a developer tells you it isn't going to fly, then don't push it... these people are giving away software that they put a lot of effort into, after all.
Cheers,

It's possible, although I haven't tried it. Also, it's not IrDA per se; it's only a transmitter, not a receiver.

Three things that would make it ideal work phone for me:
Juniper VPN-SSL client
Better integration with Exchange 2007 (EWS, ideally by adding NTLMv2 to Qt :) )
Video on SIP/Skype calls

Ovi Maps 3.0

Re: What Would you like Added to the N900

Regarding my first post on this thread: Sorry if that came across at all condescending - it wasn't meant to... Given that I don't know the other posters, I was just trying to cover everything. You'd be surprised how full bugtrackers and brainstorm lists get with things like "Make my phone more awesome!!!1" and "I want a pony!". I wasn't implying anything about the people on this thread, but I wanted to mention it before sending everyong off to the aforementioned places, just in case.

Re: What Would you like Added to the N900

Video full autofocus recording + Video stabilizer.
touch Autofocus from LCD.
MSN-voice and video chatting support
Better Bluetooth Support for Handfree
Better battery management,
On screen Zoom (Pictures, full interface zoom)
Swype Capital stay as it is.
5MP Widescreen Photo Capture :D instead of just 3. I'm pretty sure you can make it 5MP widescreen. The Iphone 3GS can exploit their crappy 3MP camera to 5MP resolution but still crap lol

Would be an extra bonus with: MULTITOUCH... It's great for gaming using on screen buttons :( and Compass ...But these will never going to happen with N900

Well, there is just one thing i really would like to have at the moment:

MfE working flawlessly with Google Sync

zapodot 2010-01-07 08:34

Re: What Would you like Added to the N900

  1. MMS support
  2. SIM Toolkit support
  3. Improved ActiveSync support, including support for Exchange2003 servers
  4. more great software, like for instance an simple photo and video editor.
  5. J2ME support as a lot of mobile apps and games are developed in Java
  6. bugfixes

I would also be very happy to see a Opera build for Maemo. It shouldn't be to hard for Opera to make this as it already supports various Linux devices

Additional APNs can be set up using the console. Have a look at this:

All this PLUS proper out-of-the-box support for:

Samba shares
IAX telephony
Better support for the keyboard throughout the interface (scrolling etc)
J2ME support
Ability to turn cellular wireless off by itself
Bluetooth file transfers
MMS

In that order of importance...but right now the random reboots and other out-of-the-box bugs are the most serious issue.

Re: What would you like added to the N900?

Improved phone functionality (as per N95 / N97) including

Full Nokia Car Kit Support with voice activated commands
Customisable ringtones per contact
Customisable ringtones per group
Nokia Media Player Aspect Ratio adjustment (N97)
Media Player built in Podcast support (so that podcasts do not show up in All Songs list, but are kept in seperate group)

I appreciate this device is much more than a phone but having these really useful phone functions taken off you hurts :)

Ability to group connections and assign groups to apps rather than individual connections (N97)

ooh and can someone port the Nokia Step Counter over to the N900 please. I love this app :)

Re: What would you like added to the N900?

Things I would like to see are;

1) Video calls through Skype/fring on the front facing camera

2) USB OTG - so I could take photos off my digital SLR and upload to web / share them / archive them on internal memory. I understand this is unlikely to happen...

3) Automatic support for downloading album art through something like gracenote in the media player.

4) Universal remote app for the IR port - mostly because I lost my TV remote while moving house some months ago.

5) Ovi Maps 3 / True sat nav with voice guidance, POI's, maybe latitude type position sharing.

6) J2ME support

7) Updated flash support

8) Dropbox app - yeah I know the web interface will do, but theres no automatic uploading of files.

9) OOTB syncing with Google accounts - contacts, calanders, email without workarounds. Loved that feature on Android.

10) Augmented reality type services using the camera

11) A dial that goes to 11

12) Software support for OSX and Linux - PC Suite stylee - bundled out of the box on the mass media drive of the n900. That way its ready to install on whatever machine its plugged into

13) The moon on a stick :)

I just installed the Cellular Modem enabler...seems to be working well.

For me, I want individual phone call volume control, with louder output for the calls.

Sorry if my wish looks like spam mail:

what I would like added is one or two inches... to the screen diagonal.

also: video Skype.

Yeah I noticed that app, a lot of the things I listed can be added on but those features should be available out of the box IMO.

I agree. I want the N910 to look like the new Dell Streak with a five inch screen. At that size, I can even live with an on screen keyboard.

Fully functioning Sat Nav!!!

I would agree with the options for both customisable ringtones for contacts/groups and fully functioning Sat-Nav.

Re: What would you like added to the N900?

ex: on the desktop write someone's name.. you will get taken to contacts.. I want to be able to press the up/down arrow to scroll through contacts and use enter to call someone
