Repositories down?

There seems to be some agreement that the respositories are down now for the server move.

I don't know if it's true (I can't connect so I'm guessing yes).

Would it be possible to use the board-wide announcement feature for something this major? I've already seen several threads asking why people can't connect. (And one where someone who hasn't been able to cnnect for the last 3 weeks has had to stop trying to sort that out till the repos are back).

If it's not true, could someone comment on why the repositories aren't connecting please?

(And hold this idea on announcing the move for when it actually happens)

The app manager can't update on extras? Closing that 'helps'.

Yep. I can update the two nokia repositories. Extras just hangs.

And conversations like this: (from post #127 onwards) suggest it's everyone. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=39003&page=13

It was expected some time soon because of the server move.

Hrm. As a test, I just used the Application Manager to successfully install Battle Gweled. So, the servers aren't looking down from my IP, at least. It could be that the content distribution network is borked for most of the world though. I don't know.

I could sticky threads, at least. I don't know if I have any abilities beyond that.

If someone involved with the move lets me (or perhaps even better, Reggie) know when an announcement of downtime should be made, I'd appreciate it. It'd be good to spread the word beyond IRC/Quiku.

Thanks! I've never had any problem with any of the repsoitories till this evening when I tried to test in response to the thread in the fremantle forum. Now it hangs.

Re: Repositories down?

RevdKathy you mentioned just Extras hangs.. is Battle Gweled in Extras, extras-devel, extras-testing.. the nokia ones?

Sorry.. was just thinking out loud. Or are all extras/testing/devel down?

Sorry, I should have specified that. I installed Battle Gweled from Extras-testing.

Re: Repositories down?

Battle Gweled is in Extras (I already have that one - dreadful time waster!)

A quick skim of my catalogue shows that I don't have access to any of the catalogues, since I disabled the extras to test whether I could update without it. So now I can't test whether I can d/l either.

Edit: It is now at least trying to update extras. Got about half way and froze.

this is a relief.... at least its a common problem and not just my n900
Yes extras does hang for me

fatalsaint 2010-01-07 21:37

Re: Repositories down?

So at this point we have several reports that "extras" is down.. but "extras-testing" is up. Is extras-testing the same server as extras? (does anybody know?)

Sjgadsby - are you successfully able to refresh just the "extras" repository?

Just trying to help.. people can tell me to shut up if I get annoying.

Re: Repositories down?

I finally managed to refresh. I only tried in the first place because the rumour mill here was saying they were down and I expected some sort of official confirmation. The news/blog says it will be next week.

In all the complaints about slowness of server I've never had any difficulty with the repositories before. Could it just be the general moribund state of the servers?

To test this, I just disabled Extras-testing, which caused Application Manager to update its repository information, of course. I then successfully installed Hex-a-Hop from Extras.

For me, going to downloads through the link on top of this page yields a 404.
Anyone else seeing this?

Yeh i think the server is down or being worked on.

Just noticed another thread popped up at roughly the same time
Waiting for sjgadsby to once again be a merger ninja
For the record, the previous 2 posts were from another thread
Which reminds me: why don't mods say "x posts from another thread merged" instead of just the last 2 words?

Unknown reason. Could have been related to work on server, but should not have been. The old hardware is really leaking in the corners :(

Just a short while longer and we get to switch over to new infra.

Thread "Downloads" with four posts merged into this thread.
