How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
Well... the title says it all.
Is it possible? I just hate when the thing is vibrating louder than the music I selected. |
Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
WARNING: CHANGING THIS FILE OTHER THAN WHAT I ADVISE MAY BRICK YOUR DEVICE, I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE IF U BRICK ur N900!
------------------------------------------------ LED and vibrator MOD ------------------------------------------------ In order to do this, you will need to: * Download and install rootsh from the Extras repository, which will give you root access in the X-Terminal * Download and install Midnight Commander, the well known file manager which also contains a convenient text editor. -open x-terminal app -type 'sudo gainroot' [enter] then 'mc' -edit the file "etc/mce/mce.ini" -down the bottom of file is the area you need to be.. -just read the file and its self explaining... -its as simple as changing numbers... -save file, exit mc and reboot. |

Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
You can turn vibration all off or all on from settings. Choosing individual vibration responses on or off requires the sort of hacking that f2thak is suggesting.
Up to you which you feel most useful for you. (I'm a coward at hacking!) |

I think the trick with responding to a basic question like this one "Can I turn off the vibration on alarms?" is to offer an answer at both levels, and let the user decide which is suitable for him/her. Basic answer: no, I can either have alarms on or off (though if people would be so good as to provide feedback on tweakr, I believe there [will be] an app for that). Advanced answer: yes, by using this command line in x-term. The user can choose. :) |

A lot of the difference between us is emotional: you're confident poking around in new stuff. I go forward by baby steps because I feel antsy in x-term. We have a range of users fitting both types. :) |
Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
My case is more that if I ruin this I might lose time in setting up another phone...
But if I would have another phone to rely on and this would be my second one, then for sure I tinker much more. (my idea initially was to do this since I didn't know if this phone would be good or not... but it just rocks :D) |
Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
I want to try this, will it allow me to disable vibration only for alarms or is this just for vibration tweaks?
|
Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
I used midnight commander however the only vibration options I saw at the end were -
Pattern:- IncomingCall IncomingMessage PowerKeyPress Touchscreen ChatAndEmail Where would the option for disabling vibration when clock alarm is triggered be? |
Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
I can't find the option in mce.ini, too.
Does really no one know how to turn off vibration during alarm? |
Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?

Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
I have root access to my new N900 (Maemo 5, downloaded yesterday). I've had a look in /etc/mce/mce.ini (using 'vi', which I've used a lot before), and like KPAH and others above all I have that has anything to do with 'vibrate' is this:
VibratorPatterns=PatternIncomingCall;PatternIncomi ngMessage;PatternPowerKeyPress;PatternTouchscreen; PatternChatAndEmail None of the 'alarm settings' I can find have any option for 'vibrate', so is there another way I might be able to do this? |
Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
Someone's logged a bug for this - maybe head over and vote it up: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8541
(there's a similar, but different, request for 'fade in' vibration: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8021) |

Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
hi,
i've been monitoring this problem since the n900 was released, and the suggested solution of mce.ini never worked (the file doesn't control the alarm clock vibration). other than voting for the bug, there is nothing to do at the moment. or of course find / write another program to use as alarm clock (one that doesn't vibrate). |
Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
okay, solution:
set profile vibrate off :D I have 2 tweakr proflies loud/quiet. I use alarmed to automatically change profiles. When Im going to bed my quiet profile is activated which has vibrate disabled. This is my solution. |
Re: How to disable vibration on Alarm for N900?
According to "strings" the file
/usr/lib/systemui/libsystemuiplugin_alarm_dialog.so in package osso-systemui-alarm has "PatternIncomingCall" in it, so you could hexedit that file (and probably restart because systemui has it loaded) to change the pattern name to something else (probably keeping it the same length), and adding that pattern to mce.ini. Sadly that libsystemuiplugin_alarm_dialog.so is closed source stuff so theres no real alternative. |
