N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
Has anyone been able to do this yet? I have access on my phone to the internet (I do NOT have the 75 dollar data plan for laptops) and can use my pearl to get online via my macbook pro, although I'm using a modem script I found online here: http://www.fibble.org/archives/000508.html
I'm connecting to: apn: wap.cingular number: *99***1# username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM password: CINGULAR1 Every time I connect from the N800 I get "remote server error". I haven't been able to find any logs that may tell me some more information yet. Has anyone been able to dialup via bluetooth with the phones internet data plan? |
Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
On my 770 I use:
apn: wap.cingular number: *99# username: WAP.CINGULARGPRS.COM password: CINGULAR1 I had the same remote server issue last night using both the 770 and 800. I suspect either Cingular RAS server poverty or that they have changed something... again. |

Ok good, I'm not the only person having this issue. I managed to get it to connect and "transfer data" this morning after rebooting both devices, but it promptly kicked me off and started errors again right after. However, using the above mentioned script I can still get online with my macbook pro... (I noticed the macbook pro has wap.cingular as the phone number as well as the APN... which is interesting) Anyone who knows anything else would be of great help! |
Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
You can also try ISP. instead of WAP. But AFAIK that requires a different plan and may not work. There is also *99***<CallerID># but this is almost always just set to 1 (if even required).

Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
I am with T-Mobile but have had the same issue. I have received 2 emails from Nokia blaming Blackberry.
"The error message that you are receiving while attempting to establish a connection to the internet indicates that your Blackberry Pearl device is not able to connect to a remote server. This does not indicate an error within the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet. For further assistance with using your Blackberry Pearl with your Nokia N800 Internet Tablet, please contact Blackberry or the provider for your internet service." Since I am able to use my Pearl for connecting my HP laptop to the internet, I think Nokia's CS has it wrong. If this doesn't get fixed, the N800 is going back. I spent several hours in the LA airport last night waiting for a redeye to bring me back to the midwest. Tried repeatedly to get this working. Finally gave up and paid Boingo $7.95 to connect via my laptop. This if part of the reason I bought the N800 and if it doesn't work properly, what good is it? |
Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
I thought bluetooth DUN with blackberries was just not possible. Is that not the case?

I'm not sure what the WSOD really was, but I had a rebooting problem (and seems to be traced back to mweather having this documented bug OR the memory card being corrupt.) But all is well now. (on the booting front) |

Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
Anyone have luck using the N800 to dial up through a blackberry pearl? I know the pearl is one of the few blackberrys to support DUN but I have no idea what steps I would need to take to make it work. I know it has no problems connecting to my previous SE W810i, and my inlaws RAZR.

Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
I ca use cingular with my slvr and the n800 if you need the settings I can provide them. HOWever I think I read that cingular locked out the DUN on the pearl

Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
So what's the real story here? Some claim to have gotten the Pearl working with the N800, others say its impossible. Obviously, somebody is wrong...
I have no luck at all getting my N800 to use the Pearl as a DUN device. I can pair the two, and the Pearl appears in the list of devices from the N800 Connection Manager. However, there are no Supported profiles listed. When I take the SIM card out of my Pearl and put it into my Nokia 9300, the N800 finds the 9300, pairs with it, and with ZERO configuration gets out on the Internet. Now, clearly Nokia devices work with each other much better than non-Nokia devices, but can we get a final ruling on the Pearl? So far, I'm in the "its not possible" camp. |
Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
It doesn't. And I've yet to see anyone report otherwise. I gave up and ordered v3xx for 3.5mbps download on cingular 3g anyways. Hope I have better luck with it.

Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
hey framerate,
any luck using n800 and v3xx to connect to cingular 3g? I have v3xx and getting my n800 later today. |
Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
It will not work with the Pearl and Cingular. On the Pearl, go into Options... Bluetooth... Option and you'll see that there are no services ror dialup networking. You should only see services for Headset, Handsfree, Desktop Connectivity and Wireless Bypass.
If you go into Options... Advanced... Services Book you will also not see anything related to dialup networking. Unfortunately, had I known this, I probably would have opted for a different phone. As it stands, should I need dialup, I carry around my old RAZR, which was a snap to set up. A pain to move SIM cards between phones, but it works. R. == |
Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
Has anyone made any further progress with this. Just upgraded to BB Pearl last month - Hope this will get resolved. I keep getting 'remote server not responding' message

Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
So far, the word is as follows, just to clear up the FUD that's been spread around:
1) The Pearl works as a BT DUN device with Windows. 2) With some script jiggering, it does the same under Mac OS X. 3) With extensive tinkering, it doesn't work at all under any Linux flavor. Either the Pearl is set to *not* work with specific BT stacks, or there's just something missing on the Linux side of the equation which needs to be fixed. Poking around in the BT settings, or looking at the service books, doesn't really help here, since the Pearl provides a BT DUN profile to some devices, and not others. |

Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
What steps did people in this thread who've had success use to get their tablets to see the data profile on the Pearl?
I'm using a T-Mobile Pearl, with the -64 OS, and a Nokia 770 with the latest OS2006 version. The 770 is paired with the Pearl, but sees no data profile. When I try to setup the "Phone" control panel (after using the "Mobile operator setup wizard") I get the following: Selected phone does not have services that can be used. Select another phone. I see reports of people using the Pearl with a Nokia pad in this thread, so obviously some are getting past this point, or there is another way to hook it all up. |

I have an n800 (OS2008) and Blackberry Pearl, and have not been able to get dialup networking to work. From what I can see, no progress has been made resolving this.

Re: N800 Dial Up Networking with Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)
I'm not running a pearl, I actually have a 8703 and verizon, but I banged my head against the wall for the holiday weekend. This morning I updated my firmware on the Blackberry. After that everything worked fine. I am running OS2008 on the N800.
