Confused: Feb "Stuff" magazine has ad for N900 + Ovi Store
so.i live in the uk and i like to treat myself to a magazine called stuff, which is basically a gadget magazine. it had a review of my beloved N900 and gave it 3 stars. each to their own. anyway onto my confusion, i flick through the mag to find a 2 page advertising spread on the N900, and to quote 'from facebook to BBC iplayer, and from video broadcast app qik to city guides and games, the ovi store has an ever growing list of apps to enjoy'. well that's fantastic seeing as the ovi store says coming soon and i cant find a bbc iplayer app anywhere, it also says fifa 10 is available for the N900 in the advert but yet i can't find it anywhere. i'm just so confused.

Re: confused
probably not, but i love it anyway, just confused as to why they would advertise all the stuff available which clearly isn't

Nokia is simply trying to buy time by misrepresenting the facts. |

Could you scan or take a picture of the advertising ? I haven't seen it anywhere. Oh and, I can see why your're confused, but Fifa, City Guides and a BBC iplayer isn't anywhere to be found, so you're not doing anything wrong. |
Re: confused
it maybe a screwup of the magazine or even better, things may get delivered this month!

Take the picture, and then press the sharing icon. You will have to have an account with Flick or Ovi Share, but once you've created that it's straight forward. After that, just paste the link in here. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGXAVLSyc_E Instructions are also on page 70 of the manual. |
Re: confused
sod it i can't figure it out. i'll do it on my computer when i get home

Re: confused
Oh dear. I really am a Pollyanna, aren't I!?
See, when I read what you said my head thinks... well, the Ovi store isn't open yet, but will be soon (next week or week after at a guess). Especially if they're advertising it in a January magazine (or was that an early Feb edition?) So... if they are also advertising iplayer... then maybe that is also Coming Soon!!! :D I also live in the UK, and have been surprised at the complete silence of advertising until about the last week or so. I finally got some spam email about it last week. I have seen no other advertising. So knowing that Nokia now feel confident enough in the device to start advertising leads me to believe they are also confident in it's roadmap, support and app store which are hovering in the offing. Damn. My glass is almost full, isn't it! |
Re: confused
i'm also of the mind that the ovi store will be with us soon, the magazine is the feb edition, and vodafone have also picked the N900 for contract, so nokia would havemto have ovi in place for that, i couldn't see vodafone throwing their weight behind the device without nokia support

Re: Confused: Feb "Stuff" magazine has ad for N900 + Ovi Store
I am going with...Pollyannas? ...view on this.
It's a crime to advertise untruths. If the ad claims there's a BBC player and FIFA 10 for the N900, then I do believe at the time the ad was created, they expected a BBC player and FIFA 10 to be available at the time of the magazine going to print. The OVI Store _will_ open eventually. Something's gotta be in there, they need something special in there if they want publicity about the store opening. That's probably their main reason for holding back the store opening too... They await the headliner app to be ready. |
Re: Confused: Feb "Stuff" magazine has ad for N900 + Ovi Store
There's no evidence that iplayer is in the Ovi store. :( Unless flash 10 is in the firmware upgrade.
But I firmly believe it will come. (Pollyanna's philosophy of life centers on what she calls "The Glad Game", an optimistic attitude she learned from her father. The game consists of finding something to be glad about in every situation. It originated in an incident one Christmas when Pollyanna, who was hoping for a doll in the missionary barrel, found only a pair of crutches inside. Making the game up on the spot, Pollyanna's father taught her to look at the good side of things—in this case, to be glad about the crutches because "we don't need 'em!". - wikipedia) |

Erm i am not surprised at all, i have been ripped at by 'fanboiys' for mentioning nokias advertosing campaigns being far from the truth. thanks for sharing this.
I like stuff anyway, i havent had it for years but i used to get it every month. i can understand a 3 star review- i am sure the majority of stuff readers would be more about the 3gs or android nexus 1.. but there are many positives from a consumer point of view. unefical advertising will get more units sold(more interest-more functions, more quality)- and hopefully its only unethical in terms of the fact that these said features perhaps arnt out yet but will be on there way SOON!!!! |

that one is quite honest. off course it is very perfect world(everyone does that) but it dosent specifically say anything that isnt included I WAS WRONG. it makes the statement that ovi store is avalable and that certsin apps are exclusive. and a few other untruths. |

Re: Confused: Feb "Stuff" magazine has ad for N900 + Ovi Store
Look on page 3 at the bottom. Nokia are still advertising game emulators as a selling feature. You would have thought they would have learned their lesson. I love the Emulators though so can understand why.
