N900 not charging (no status or light indicator change)
 

I just got the N900 yesterday. First thing I did was charge the phone. I went to charge it today and the light indicator does not show nor does it say its charging on the status bar.

I switched up to the USB charger for my computer, nothing. Would it matter if I had a mac?

Any ideas?

I would hate to send it back. I just got it.

it only charged the first time with the wall mount charger. it has not charged since.

maybe your charging block is broken, have you been rough with it at all? have a good look at it to make sure its not damaged.

do you have an old nokia charger? try using that w/ the adapter

no i just got it yesterday. i did not drop it or do anything to damage the cords or the macro usb connector. it charged the first time yesterday and that is it.

Are you using the phone whilst its charging?
Light only shows when the screen is off

I have turned it off and tried to charge it that way. I left it alone for an hour and nothing, the status did change for the better.

the funny thing is the my mac wont even pick it up. i think the connection is broken in the phone but i just got it. i charged it and it worked the first time so i have to be doing something wrong.

i am still waiting for it to run out of power. should i just unplug it and let it die even though there is no indication its charging?

i am not running any applications and there are no widgets on the desktop. it has the same settings as when i first turned it on.

that is what i have been doing. ive tried to troubleshoot everything i could. this is my last ditch effort.

Have,you tried opening the keyboard, or rotating the device so it goes into phone mode? For some reason those things have worked for me when I had this issue.

ok if it dnt charge from usb or wall then its broken, did you chech the usb port on the n900? you could try flashing it with flasher 3.5

Pull the battery for a few mins?? only a suggestion, not saying it works or owt, worth a try

U no I have had a little trouble with plugging in the usb adapter and it getting recognized by the pc. Sometimes I have to unplug and replug it in several times before it offers me mass storage mode or the other one. Sometimes it just isn't recognized at all. And I suppose if thats true it is probably not charging then either.

Maybe your port is just bad, or maybe its like mine and just flaky

happens to me sometimes.
remove the battery, unplug the charger and reinstall the battery back again.

Have you tried taking the batterry out and in again? Helps when the device was uncharged 'too much'..

That is an odd issue for it to not work on neither 240v or USB charger. Sounds like you might have a dodgey mini USB - You tried removing the USB lead in PC, putting it in another port then attaching the N900 again? Try that, it's a long shot. Also try wiggling the cable whilst it's in the port. the port on my N97 was a bit flaky and doing this seemed to bring it to life.

i got the same problem here...

my N900 is about 2 weeks old..
i charged it many times..
but today.. i plugged it in at my PC, but nothing happend,
no green light, no messages appears at N900...

i tried another cable, another PC, and than i tried it with the 230V - Charger...
but.. nothing..

i removed the battery, waited for 5 min, tried again.. nothing..

so.. any ideas?

Same problem. Mine is also not charging. I think there is a hardware problem. Something in the charging circuit in the phone is not working. Maybe the usb port (This thread is about problems with the usb connector).

There's a long thread here about broken USB ports.. Remember that the usb socket doesnt have to be loose and rattling round inside the device for the contacts to have broken off the motherboard..

If you've tried a different wire, different power source and removed the battery a while, I'd conclude that the connection inside the phone has a problem. You could take your wire/laptop/charger into a phone shop and ask if they will get out another phone (blackberry) that charges off this type of connector..
Or you can ask them to use their phone, their charger, and try your phone too.. which they may be more amenable to doing

I sent it back to nokia.. and got a new device..
no problem at all.

I had a simliar experience.

First day with the N900 it charged with the wall charger. Then back and forth the wall charger would work one charging session, then not another (the USB cable to connect to a laptop or desktop consistently worked, just not the wall charger). I used the same outlet each time so it's not that. The sessions where the wall charger failed, the N900's screen DID light up upon plugging the wall charger, but the battery wouldn't charge (no usual "charging" banner across the screen, and the battery indicator bars didn't rise as it normally does as it's charging).

I was close to sending a refund request to exchange the product but decided to look around in this forum first. I didn't find any similar experiences here but since then my wall charger has worked fine (knock on wood). That's less than two weeks of owning this device.

Maybe you should exchange it for a working product.

I have had the same problem now for 2 days.
I can charge the phone with both the USB cable and the USB adapter (the one you use to connect to an older wall charger). But charging does not work with the direct wall charging.

I guess this is a software bug. Anyone know if this has been acknowledged by Nokia?

I'd guess it was a faulty wall charger actually. Have you tested with another charger, or tested the charger with another device?

Nope. I've tried with different wall charges (which work with other phones) _and_ I've tested that if I just use an old charger (barrel charge) and the USB adapter (that came with the phone) the phone *will* charge normally.

I'm inclined to think that it is SW bug because the USB charging is working with both Laptop+USB and old charger + USB adapter.

Anyone else seen this?

Kinda. My DC-10 car charger exhibits a bit randomness. Replugging it eventually makes phone charge.

When i use a cheap charger (At my dads house) I have to replug it in a few times to get it to work. And when i use my Exs Moto Cliq Charger, same problem.

Rip battery out,

Hold power button for 30 seconds (Jst like a bios reset.)

Wip charger back in, give it 5 minutes juice or leave it the rest of the day,

Power it up, it should be that easy!

My phone was fine since I got it. Only recently has it been acting up (iE not charging or harge for a bit then stop and start again) and tonight when i got back home fom work i charged my phone only to realize it wasn't charging. (using both the wall charger and the one connecting to the PC.

I have noticed that when i connect to charge, the USB is a bit loose/wobbly but hasn't been much of a problem till now. I'm contacting nokia tomorrow to see what my options are for warranty repair work and try out my friends charger to see if it works.
