Flashing a preproduction N900
Hi all - I wanted to try and reflash my pre-production N900. I've followed the WIKI exactly and the flash fails with the following ->
USB device found found at bus bus-0, device address \\.\libusb0-0001--0x0421-0x0 105. Found device RX-51, hardware revision 1801 NOLO version 1.4.11 Version of 'sw-release': RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.36-14_PR_MR0 To flash the bootloader, you have to supply the X-Loader image The cmd line was -> flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.42-11_ PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R The N900 IS in flash mode - I even enabled the RD mode. thanks |
Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
Are you talking about a prototype hardware for N900?
If yes, then one answer could be that the firmware package you are using does not support the prototype you have. Hartti |
Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
The retail firmware wont flash a pre-production device. You'll need to find a LEGACY FIASCO image.

Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
How does one go about flashing a pre production unit? I wouldnt know where to get a legacy fiasco image. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance |

Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
I tried that I flashed my eMMC successfully . After that i tried flashing my firmware to the current state. It still gives me the same error:
To flash the bootloader, you have to supply the X-loader image. Any ideas on what needs to be done about this? |
Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
Perhaps you should try with a newer version, either pr1.1 or pr1.1.1. If all else fails, try cold flashing (flasher --help will give you the answers how to do that)
i think this x-loader thing is like a bios, maybe you should try asking a nokia service center to upgrade it for you so you can enjoy "retail goodness" :) |
Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
I managed to flash the rootfs after I flashed the eMMC. My phone now started booting again but now I have some kind of version conflict and the flasher gives me the same error when i try to flash the entire firmware.
To flash the bootloader, you have to supply the X-loader image. I have unpacked the FIASCO image and got multiple X-loader images in the directory. Which one do you think I should flash into the device? If I have to flash the individual components separately, which are the ones I should flash? Or do I simply flash every single one of them? Any ideas? And also, I am not able to get the latest firmware on the OTA updates. It does not even show up in my application manager. How would cold flashing help? I even tried cold flashing but it asks me to supply the 2nd image when I use the FIASCO image to update the firmware. I know my questions are all over the place but that is because I am trying to get this pre-production unit to retail status. Going to a Nokia retailer is out of the question because the device hasn't even released here. Help please..!! |
Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
Me along with a lot of other people have this problem as well...this is the only thread it seems with info on this issue from my google searching. I've tried the latest 2010 bin file and still getting the X-loader image error. Any developments??..

I'm sure there is a way to get hold of LEGACY images, just need to find right email or page to spam. |
Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
Wow.... nothing on how one deals with a pre-production device. What does this mean in terms of the platform being open source? Is there really no solution? Surely if someone on the Nokia team can do something about it then the community should be able to as well right? Is there anyone from Nokia listening in? Any suggestions on what we can do?

Just confirming, can be done and figured it out...

Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
Just contact Nokia to get a LEGACY FIASCO image. I have a PR1.1.1 LEGACY image right here on my desktop... If you need an e-mail address, just PM me.

Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
NSU carried legacy images the last time I looked. (And they worked for flashing my Sept. pre-prod.)
Use a tool like Navifirm to download them from the NSU server. |

Could you please let me know a download link for the legacy images. My HWID is F4 2001. I am not able to flash the device because the X-loader wont support the HW version!!!! Thanks in advance. ~Pradeep |

"contact Nokia to get a LEGACY FIASCO image" is a quite clear answer, isn't it? And no, Tomaszd is not Mr. Nokia... |
Re: Flashing a preproduction N900

Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
Why dont you just put it up here? Wont that save you a lot of replies? I am sure there are those in the community who would like to know as well.

Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
I just flash my pr-production phone sucessfully just now, so pls follow my steps to flash yours:
1. Turn the phone into flash mode, don't ask me how 2. Why flasher can't flash the image in your phone:confused: The answer is the HW Revision, you HW revision is lower than what the image requires, so we need to change the HW Revision first. Using this order: "flasher.exe --set-hw-revision=2101" (Of course you can change the 4-digital number to the latest one), then plug out the usb cable, turn off the phone by removing the battery 3. Turn the phone into flash mode again, and now we'll flash the OS into the phone, using this order: "flasher.exe -f IMAGE Name -F" and the flasher is working on writing the image to the phone, it'll take about 2~3 minutes, and then restart your phone manually (I don't add the "-R" for it'll show a mistake when flashing the cmt-mcusw at the first time) 4. Turn on your phone and enjoy your new life with N900! |

1 Attachment(s)
I am having the same issue. I am a Nokia Representatives and usually get preproduction units. My N900 Kept rebooting and now it would not turn on Anymore. Just Nokia Logo comes on without backlight, but then it restarts again.
I tried to flash it, but it kept giving me error "To flash the bootloader, you have to supply the X-Loader image." I tried latest image, but it would not work. I tried it in Production mode and R&D mode. The Top line says: "SW version in image: RX-51_2009_SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_MRO" And the bottom line says: "Version of 'sw-realease' : RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.40-2_PR_MRO" See the image Please help, how can I get this thing to turn on? Ravi. |

Re: Flashing a preproduction N900
So I posted my earlier post without realizing that there were three pages. Andy Lau's Mehod worked. Thanks Dude.
The only change I would say is when you are executing the third stage, it's "flasher.exe -F IMAGE Name -f" NOT "flasher.exe -f IMAGE Name -F" Enjoy |
