Ovi "app" doesn't recognize that my N900 is using the latest patch

So during the ovi store craze yesterday I managed to get Fennec to reach the store after setting my device to the N900 but I still weren't able to use neither the regular microB browser with any of the suggested links or fixes nor the "app"/link in the menu.

Today I once again tried to reach the store with microB instead of Fennec to no avail and after that I tried the "app"/link in the menu and got this even though I have the newly release update:

Restarting the phone doesn't help and I'm not sure what to do next to try to make it work, any suggestions?

I think there was an Ovi update that became available after applying the PR1.0.1 update. Diid you update everything?

First off, if your not updated to the latest firmware, please update, second check if any user-agent hiding application is active, if so remove and try again.

No, for me that does not work in microB but it does work in Fennec and yes I am using the firmware released yesterday.

I've checked two times now and all standard repos except extras-devel are active, no new updates available.

Using yesterdays firmware and I have never had any user-agent hiding app installed.

Is there anything else I can do besides waiting until fw 1.1 get's released?

By the way, thanks for taking your time to reply to all of you.

Might reinstalling the browser solve this problem? Is there any way to do this without reflashing?

may be possible, but I bet reflashing is the easier way...

If you go to about:config in MicroB (type it in the address bar and accept the warning), what is general.useragent.vendor and is it bold? Is there a setting for general useragent.override?

general.useragent.vendor Status: user set Type: string Value: Firefox/3.5 Maemo Browser 1.4.1.22 RX-51 N900

general.useragent.override Status: user set Type: string Value: Maemo Browser

I'd very much appreciate if someone else checked these two preferences/options in microB by typing in about:config in the url bar.

If you're using HideUserAgent, turn it off from its Control Panel applet.

But I've never even had that app installed. :/

Yeah the
general.useragent.vendor Status: user set Type: string Value: Firefox/3.5 Maemo Browser 1.4.1.22 RX-51 N900

is exactly the same as mine and Ovi store works ok, I'm not sure what else it could be that could detect what version of the OS you are running.

Re: Ovi "app" doesn't recognize that my N900 is using the latest patch

OK, so the override value shouldn't be set. It's, erm, overriding the standard user agent identifying MicroB to the webserver with just the string "Maemo Browser". So the store can't tell whether you've updated your firmware or not. Dunno how it got that way, but just fix it by resetting the value.

Sadly you can't just right-click in about:config like you can on desktop firefox, nor will setting the value to empty work, so you can either (not recommended) edit ~/.mozilla/rtcom/prefs.js (you may need to kill browserd beforehand) or navigate to about:config, then in the URL bar, enter the following exactly (case sensitive, single line, and note different square/rounded brackets):

Code:

javascript:Components.classes["@mozilla.org/preferences-service;1"].getService(Components.interfaces.nsIPrefBranch).clearUserPref("general.useragent.override")

UQs,

Are you using Wifi or cellular connection to go to the store (I am wondering if the network provider is somehow messing with your user-agent - should not be, but...)?
Also you could try to see what is the user agent the servers see, for example using a web site like whatsmyuseragent.com

Interestingly, sometime today the Ovi Store link on the desktop began to work for me (West Coast, US).

It didn't after the update to 1.01 and I had to use the store.ovi link - but now it does (it redirects to store.ovi.mobi once it gets to the browser)

That method works great until i restart the browser. It doesn't seem to save the changes.

Re: Ovi "app" doesn't recognize that my N900 is using the latest patch

Changes made in about:config should be permanent, so most likely you either have an app or a microB addon that is changing the setting for you.

Can you double-check through the main app manager uninstall list and the microB addon list (titlebar - settings) that you don't have anything extra installed?

Done and done. Still nothing, oh well I don't seem to be able to automatically update to PR1.1 either so I'll just reflash. Thanks for the help anyway vitaminj and everyone else.
