N900 PR1.1 - Glitches in new firmware?

Since updating firmware I have had two random issues so far. I was wondering if anyone could confirm before I put it on bugzilla

1) N900 was on charger, I powered off and it locked up. Had to pull battery to reset it. I need to test this once home

2) N900 can't activate phone component nor connect to TMobile after being put in offline mode and back into Normal. Worked fine the first time. when I got out of my 2nd class I couldn't get it to turn on and it eventually locked up requiring a battery pull

Same here. Last night after unplugging the n900 from the charger, I tried to turn it on and it was dead. I had, just like you, to pull the battery out to make it start.

The second point (I have T-Mobile pay-as-you-go), seems like the phone component works fine after a "offline mode".

Popup menus in the browser sometimes don't go away when you click outside of them. I've actually had two popup menus at the same time. Both of these were new experiences since the update.

Buttons on the virtual keyboard sometimes don't work at all when you tap on them until you get out of the virtual keyboard and back into it.. This has happened 3 times with me already.

After the upgrade, all the letters "n" in the menu were distorted. Rebooting fixed it.

can't report on the 1st issue but my phone goes into and out of offline mode fine and this is after the minor update.

I can't seem to get either of my issues to come up again.

ioan, can you try with yours when you have time? Just plug in the charger, power off the N900 and see if you can power it back on.

Re: Glitches in new firmware?

my battery life has dropped significantly. was getting about 14-16 hours and since the update I am hardly getting 6 hours???
usage is the same. pull out of charger at 6am and make few calls on lunch around 12, after getting off at 5 make a lot of calls, and between all those time check maemo.org every once in a while. but since this update it barely lasts till the lunch. have not had anything else installed after the update or have done any kind of settings change. really weird.

I can't reproduce the problem from last night either. I don't remember exactly if the n900 was off when I plugged the charger... I tried few combination and seems like is working fine.

Re: Glitches in new firmware?

I got this annoying bug with this new update. My phone randomly freeze and my CPU usage jumped to 100%. Very annoying.. Everything seem slower than older firmware. And it drain more battery too.

And as for bluetooth headset, It connect but all distorted just like the previous firmware. But if you connect to Bluetooth and make a call then connect to WiFi the sound became clear and not so much distortion anymore.. But once it's connected it became crap again. Seriously What sort of bullshiit did NOKIA put into the N900 Bluetooth hardware?

Advice - try avoid reboots, use OFF-ON instead.
See bug 7017 for details.
Also, please report if it helps.

I don't see any decrease in battery life. I have the impression that it lasts slightly longer now.

Alarm buttons dialog(snooze, stop) are blue themed (digital nature 1?) eventhough I'm using orange theme (dig. nat. 2?). Haven't tried rebooting yet.

edit: disregard this post, reboot is the way to go.

Re: Glitches in new firmware?

1. theme mixup.
I can confirm that after the update I had the blue default theme icons mixed with the previously configured nature theme (the seconde theme that came preinstalled). Chossing the default theme and then the other one solved the problem.

2. increased cpu usage.
This problem also appared for me. I had the load applet installed which showed regular appearing full CPU usage. The whole interface got really slow while these phases.
This problem also was visible in the drasticly decreased battery life of 4h

3. touchscreen unresponsive.
That is the most annoying problem. Quite often it is not possible to start an application by touching it or even get to the overview of running apps. Touching the respective icons shows them getting activated but then the phone seems to get stuck. E.g. touching the back item in any running app turns the icon active (inverted blue in default theme) and then it stays that way and nothing happens. Using the screen lock switch on the side twice then finishes the action e,g.
Also this disables leaving a open dialog window by touching the blurry area.

I reflashed the phone with
RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.42-11_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin
which removed the problems again.

Now i just installed the update again and after that problem 1 and 2 seem not to reappear. However, problem 3 just happened again, but it seems not that often as after the first update. I'll use the phone now for a day to see how annoying it gets and then might go back to the original firmware to check that there it again works fine to rule out any hardware defect (to be honest i kind of suspect the display protection to maybe have some influence, but before i scratch it off again I'll wait for maybe some more feedback here)

Scenario 1 happened to me before (but I have not yet updated the firmware). So I don't think it is related to the new firmware upgrade. I notice that if you are plugging (charging) the N900 and suddenly Switched Power off (while still being plugged/charge in) and you want to Switch the power button back on, it won't let you. Then you got to take the battery out. I learned that if you want to charge the phone while it is off, you should first unplug the charger first, then Switch power button off. Then plug it back in to charge. Once it hits green light, unplug the charger before you Switch the phone back on. If you do it that way, you don't have to pull the battery out.

N900 PR1.1 - Report problems here !!!

After updating to PR1.1 I was excited to see that MFE is working. But there is a problem.
Email messages that are "Accept responses" to meeting invitation that you sent are received again and again. Each time your email is synchronised.

Plus there is no information in the "recipient"

As a result my most recent emails are always "Accept response" for meeting invitations.

Looks like MFE implementation was not fully tested......
Frustrating.

I am no longer able to stream divix or xvid videos from my dnla server that previously worked on the older firmware. The audio comes across, but the video looks like it is stuck on the first frame. Could this be a codec issue that can be easily fixed?

Have you tried to reboot n900 and connect it then computer and not select any mode for it?

Wow, im in the same boat, just checked after reading your issue. Im using Tversity, which worked absolutely fine on the last firmware update. Very weird.

Heh. Its not PHONE its computer :) If anything weird happens first thing to do is reboot and after that verify that it doesn't still keep on doing it. If it doesn't appear anymore GOOD if it appears again then make bug report :)

Re: N900 PR1.1 - Report problems here !!!

I just tested and have to agree that there is some kind of an issue with UPnP. Just had to try WMP11 on Win7. Wmv's (not sure which codec) seems to work ok, but divx's and xvid's are not playable. Not sure though did they work before PR 1.1. A codec related issue?

Video files that were working previously (xvid avi's and x264 mp4s) have stopped playing if launched from within media player. If launched from file manager, they play but if the video-thumb process ever runs, the files stop working until next reboot. i tried flushing the media cache and letting it rebuild but no joy.

Changing volume without unlocking the phone no longer works for me. :( Previously when I pressed power button I could change volume without unlocking, now I have to take phone out from my pocket, unlock, change volume, lock, put back into my pocket.

Can anyone confirm that?

Sadly this looks likes to be case. Make bug report to see if it was intentional.

Same goes to people having issues with streaming xvid/divx or whatever videos worked before update.

Re: N900 PR1.1 - Report problems here !!!

My media player works great, browser works great, performance seems smoother, but its that streaming issue which is really frustrating me.

I initially thought codec, but usually the device refuses downright to play the file. And if the file doesnt fit the screen exactly, you can still see the very faint outlines, so the phone knows that some input is coming in.

Also, Tversity allows for streaming converting. I've manually set it to several different vid types, and they all do the same thing, play sound, and the first frame of vid stays on screen. I could be wrong, but I dont think its a codec issue.

I suspect there is an issue with tracker usage even with initial release. Because I filled bug 7147 (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7147) which describes pretty close event - see comment #8 from Nokia :)

Happily it disappears after tracker picks up your tumbnails from video files. But you may need some reboot after what - just sit and wait one day.

Nope, it worked absolutely fine before todays update. Leaving it to buffer does nothing. Its very strange, as all media files on the device play perfectly.

- Play a music file in Media Player
- Lock the phone with the slider
- When phone is locked, press the power button so that the "Swipe to unlock" screen displays
- Use the volume buttons. You should be able to adjust the volume without having to actually unlock the phone.

It's effectively gone in the PR 1.1 firmware. A real bummer, especially if you have a lock code.

I think that will go away after tracker passes all music/video files - it takes time.

Sounds like what I had while updating:
i quote myself from another post here:
"I updated via WIFI with it charging via USB.
If you experience a very slow and almost non-responding Maemo after the first restart, just relax.
At least, after I rebooted another time the N900 came out snappier than before"

I also noticed, now you bring it up, it was in offline mode.
I could make it shut down after a great deal of time, or maybe I thought I was and the N900 had reset itself.
but after it came back on It was all ok.
Maybe it wants to do some last configuration work?
maybe removing the battery disturbed that proces.

but then again, if that's the case, it would be neat to state something like "Hands off".
