Has anyone else seen no sign of the firmware update coming their way?

I have been watching the flurry of firmware update related ups and downs these last few days but I am yet to have this upgrade come through in app manager.

Is it staggered in any way? Anyone else not had the opportunity.

I feel left out :o(

Did you refresh your app cache in the App manager?

Yes, periodically and still not getting anything...

Repository details are as they should be...region 203 (UK), though it might regional but I would have expected to see other reports

As stated, check the app manager, go to "Download", check the "All" category, and look for the "blue square" icon labled "Maemo5".

I think its been out for a while now, at least from a week ago. I did not get an alert the day everyone else did, but did get an alert previously. The Maemo update has been in my app mgr. for a while, but I closed the alert too fast as I was distracted w/something else, in the middle of shutting down. I chaled the update software up to something that dealt w/"flashing", so I left it alone.

I have been searching high and low in all the right (and the wrong) places, considered accidental update whilst I was down the rabbit hole but unfortunately not, still on 42-11

Did you happen to remove the mp-fremantle-generic-pr package at any point (by using Red Pill or apt-get)? This is the metapackage that defines Maemo 5. If this package isn't installed, then you wont see the update.

Re: Has anyone else seen no sign of the firmware update coming their way?

You most likely have the older firmware in your device which came with the devices bought some months ago. That older firmware doesn't support SSU apparently so you have to use cable to install the latest firmware.

Those who have bought the N900 later have a newer firmware which supports SSU and they will automatically get the update through App manager.

I was surprised to see that I had the update but a friend of me who bought the N900 some months before me did not have it. We started investigating what could be the reason, and finally noticed that he had different default repositories (my repository had /ssu/ in the address). Even when he changed his Nokia update repository to be same as mine, he could not get the latest update through App manager.

Apparently since I just got the device, I already had newer firmware ready installed. If you don't get the update through App manager, you need to download the full firmware and install it through cable (you'll lose all settings).

@GeneralAntilles - This was the case, rectified it using the info on the BIG firmware update thread but still have not had it through (it is not available in to app manager)..

@okv - This is possible, the devie is about 6 weeks old and I have discounted or fixed every other scenario I have come across...will look at doing it manually this evening (first flash!!!)

All comments or suggestions are still appreciated...

I cant find the update. I updated the catalogues and checked under "All". Nothing :(

No, there's lots of us in the UK not yet getting it. I certainly haven't removed anything essential!

Somehow they are staggering it not only around the world but across countries. I'm honestly not sure how that works but that's what's happening.

There are posts in the Big thread where people are getting angsty. i think for now it's wait.

Some but not all - quite a lot of angst really: Some do, some don't. It's weird.

I'm in South London and have seen reports of it being available in London... Meh... I'm at work anyway, so shouldn't spend the day hitting refresh. The incremental came through okay - I just hope this one does too!

I also hope I don't have to uninstall everything from exrtas-testing and extras-dev ... not got huge amounts but its still a pain!

This is very frustrating. Do you know where Nokia documented this?

I'm sceptical that we can't upgrade via the App Manager - wasn't that the whole point of Monday's update? We haven't heard anything from Nokia to that effect.

The UK always seems to be at the arse end of Nokia's release schedule. I'm sure they'll get around to squeezing it out at some point today.

Yeah - Monday's update (which incidentally came through on my app manager fine) is meant to have enabled the app manager to receive the new update. So its just a waiting game really.

Anyone know much about these two different firmwares? One is rx-51 and one is something else...

Rob1n 2010-01-14 10:56

Re: Has anyone else seen no sign of the firmware update coming their way?

RX-51 is the internal model number for the N900. The two UK firmwares are 203 and 205. 203 is the generic version and 205 a Vodafone branded version.

Just an update from me - London, UK - update has now come through! Its on my lunch break too which is handy. Time to abuse my supposed unlimited internet bundle. This will hurt the fair usage allowance I'm sure!

To the tune of around 90MB, yes :)

I installed mine a couple of hours ago and all went well (even though a worrying "corrupted file" message popped up at some point.)
