Re: PR1.1 Feedback?

The update basically worked. But now something with the nameserver is broken. My resolv.conf is empty and i can't resolve names although i do have basic ip connectivity. Need to investigate this ...

I'll keep documenting this here, just in case someone runs into the same issues. I have tracked this down to the point that udhcpc creates a resolv.conf in /tmp/resolv.conf.wlan0 whereas dnsmasq expects this file to be in /var/run. Copying the file manually fixes the problem.

Does anyone here know how the file is to be put into /var/run ? The first few lines of the file responsible for this look like this in my machine:

Code:

Nokia-N900-42-11:/etc/udhcpc# more /etc/udhcpc/libicd_network_ipv4.script
#!/bin/sh
# udhcpc script to use with OSSO ICd

RESOLV_CONF="/tmp/resolv.conf.$interface"
...

Is this file broken on my machine? Should this really read /tmp in that RESOLV_CONF line? Can someone confirm this?

Edit: Further down this thread you'll find the solution. Here's the short version:

The problem is due to the fact that i some time ago had vpnc installed. The vpnc installation modified the file /etc/udhcpc/libicd_network_ipv4.script (and left it in that state after i uninstalled vpnc). The update wants to update this file, but since it recognized it as not being the original version doesn't touch it. Instead the new version isbeing saved by the update under /etc/udhcpc/libicd_network_ipv4.script.dpkg-dist

So the solution is simple: get root (e.g. sudo gainroot) and do a "mv /etc/udhcpc/libicd_network_ipv4.script.dpkg-dist /etc/udhcpc/libicd_network_ipv4.script" to replace the old modified version with the one the update tried to install. After that everything is fine again.

This also means that you probably shouldn't install vpnc on updated machines before this has been sorted out.

Re: PR1.1 Feedback?

First problem i noticed is that my calendar is somewhat broken.

1. The Calendar Widget only displays january not the enties from feb. (could be related to 2.)
2. I have a entry on feb the first and in the calendar monthly view it will be shown with a marker if i click on the day the entry is missing.

i tried exporting and importing the calendar again but the buggy feb the first is still there.

This does not happen with the old firmware.

Tutorial: Make sure you have PR1.1 firmware. Press ctrl-shift-o . Then close your keyboard. Rotate your device into portrait, and then the browser should rotate into portrait mode too.

The widget only shows next 2 weeks. It was a bug that displayed some events far in the future before.

Ovi Maps properly tracks your position now when moving :-)

In previous version, you had to have routing active for the tracking to work.

I think so. That file is used by dnsmasq. /etc/resolv.conf should just point to 127.0.0.1

Can someone check if USB networking works as before the update?
I have this problem:
The device does not respond to pings anymore, neither on the IP associated to the USB interface (192.168.2.15) nor to localhost (127.0.0.1).
What works are pings to the PC (192.168.2.14) from the device.

If you are in bright light, while not great, the mirror app is at least usable now.

MfE 2003 is now working and noticed new light blue led blinking if display is off, nice. Feature or am i missing something?

Also my update didnt go well. Had to flash device with older firmware and then do the update process again without any other software installed.

it means you have too much stuff in rootfs. Try some of these:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=468063&postcount=1
if that fails, try to remove some programs. Especially those from dubious sources (extras-devel, third party repositories, etc...)

MCE.ini was updated so probably there has been at least minor tweaks to led patterns.

Have you installed vpnc_0.5.8-0m5_armel.deb from Maemo Extras Devel? That package might cause the issue.

Have just updated mine.
What I have noticed is that when you use it as a "modem", to connect your computer to the internet, it disconnects every 5-10 minutes and you need to reconnect.

Havent found any settings to change. Was more "stable" before the upgrade.

NSU clears out everything from rootfs, so no there are no memory problems with that method :)

/etc/resolv.conf doesn't even need to contain anything. My question was: This script writes the file to /tmp while dnsmasq expects it under /var/run. The question: Is it correct for the script to place it in /tmp and if yes, what mechanism moves it to /var/run as this part seems to fail.

Noticed that when using the front camera with the mirror app that the band that used to appear 3/4 of the screen to the right side has disappeared. The quality is still rubbish. :)

I had that installed previously and yes, i noticed that the vpnc package added something to the script. This may have prevented the script from being updated.

Would someone who has updated his machine be so kind to put his
/etc/udhcpc/libicd_network_ipv4.script somewhere so i can compare them?

Re: PR1.1 Feedback?

The value of /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all has been changed to 1, so this is the reason why the device does not respond to pings anymore.

Mine says:

Code:

#!/bin/sh
# Place your script to /etc/maemo-dhcp.d directory so that it gets run.

run-parts -a "$1" /etc/maemo-dhcp.d

Hope this helps,

Chris.

Hmm. Not on my device. Is there a reference in the changelog for that?

Chris.

Is it just me, or has WiFi power management been put into a very aggressive mode now, powering down after milliseconds and leading to packets being dropped and the device essentially becoming unresponsive (network-wise, not the entire device!) after a few seconds, unless network traffic is being kept up at a rather high rate?

Regards,
Chris.
